The innovative design of the Shell Sorter Brass Sorter helps save tedious hours of separating the most common pistol brass. Instead of spending hours hand separating 45 ACP, 40 S&W, 10mm Auto, 9mm and 380 ACP just put unsorted brass in the top yellow ABS plastic pan and shake. Everything smaller than 45 ACP will fall into the next pan (blue). The blue pan is designed to keep brass the size of 40 S&W and 10mm letting everything smaller fall into the next pan (yellow). The yellow pan will keep everything the size of 9mm and 380 ACP sending everything smaller out of the bottom.

Function: Separate 45 ACP brass from 40 S&W and 10mm Auto Brass from 9mm and 380 ACP brass
Material: ABS Plastic
How it Works:

The pans are designed to sit on top of a standard 5 gallon bucket

By stacking the yellow on top, then the blue, then the black, multiple calibers can be sorted apart

Pans can also be used in place of a media separate

Color Coding:

Yellow sorts 45 ACP and larger

Blue sorts 40 S&W and 10mm

Black sorts 9mm, 380 and smaller

Special Note:

It is recommended to sort the brass prior to tumbling, since media will sometimes cause a small case to be stuck in a larger case

This product saves an immense amount of time when sorting brass. I can sort a 5 gallon bucket of brass in 30 minutes or less. By hand it took much longer. Now I have more time to spend actually reloading or shooting. I don't miss sorting by hand one bit. It even sorts out rimmed cartridges, they hang by the rim, you pour out the rimless, turn the pans over completely and push out the rimmed. Great product!

This product works OK. Sorts .45 out like a champ. Not so good on the .40 cal. A lot of 9mm remains stuck in the 40 cases, requiring a fair amount of hand sorting. When nested, there is only about 3/4" of space between the trays. This limits me to about 2 large handfuls of brass at a time. It took me almost an hour to sort 1/2 of a 5 gallon bucket of assorted pistol brass. Quicker than hand sorting, but not as quick as it should be for the price.

What a time saver

Shooting competition makes for a lot of brass sorting. This set reduced my time sorting brass to a fraction of the time I used to spend. You still have to do a bit of work to get the .38 out of the 9mm but still worth it. The 9mm like to stick in the 40cal but with a bit of shaking, most of them dislodge on their own. The ones that don't, just takes a min to free them up and your on your way.

I can sort a full 5gal bucket in a fraction of the time.

Works like a charm. I pick up my brass at the range, and sometimes get some other random stuff in there. This quickly lets me sort out my 45 ACP, 9mm, and 223 from the random .40 S&W that gets in there. I just wish there was a way to sort .380 from 9mm.

I had been hand sorting 2 five-gallon buckets for days. I broke down and ordered these with a sigh. To my surprise they arrived early.2 five-gallon buckets sorted, bagged, and labeled in 15 minutes. Absolutely wonderful product. Heck, make this to where you can stage the pans above each other with a side opening that will allow the cases to be tipped out one side...and find me a way to mount it to a shaker style tumbler so all I need to do is feed it casings!The only negative I have is that the option of the 380 sorter is not included and that particular sorter is not a pan. That would have been worth a little extra as a package.

One of the best investments I have made in all of my reloading tools on the bench. I visit the range multiple times a month and collect hundreds of brass when done on each visit. Don't know why I ever waited so long to get these in the first place. There is an extra metal screen for .380 ACP that you can get to sort 9mm from .380 - anyone who has ever sorted large amounts of these two will tell you this is no fun. Just do in small batches and the process goes quite quickly. Don't over fill the trays and the process will be quick. Don't forget to wear hearing protection, all that shaking makes a lot of noise.

These pretty much work as advertised, but are slow, and FAR from 100% accurate. As mentioned in other reviews, there is still almost always going to be some hand sorting required before you're done. The bigger the quantities of brass you are sorting, the slower it goes with these. That said ... I still use mine after almost every trip to the range.

I've had these for a ...

I've had these for a while. While they do help some, they are not a fix-all. I suppose if you had a McDonalds bag full of pistol brass, they would sort that pretty quick, but I sort 80 pounds of wildly mixed rifle/pistol brass at a time to only end up with 4 boxes that must still be hand sorted. I still frequently catch myself hand picking large rifle brass out of the pile rather than dumping it in the sorters. Much more than a double hand full clogs the process to the point that there is little room for brass that will pass through, to pass through. And lastly, using these things is noisier than crap. The noise in an enclosed area will actually leave your hearing a little muffled after a few hours, so I wear muffs.

Anyone who does not think this is worth the $40 does not sort much brass on a regular basis. The one I have used for a year was stolen. I sorted and sorted. I will pay 40 bucks. And that is all I have to say about that.
