FOR SAVAGE MODEL 12 VLP & VLP-S OWNERS (mine is a .204 Ruger)!!! This might also work on other Savage rifles but you'll have to check for yourself.Here's the deal guy's...buy two sets of the standard Leupold mounts (which stinks because it's expensive) and use only the dovetail (front) mount as both the front and back mounting bracket. The height will be the perfect because the receiver is the same height in the front and back of this rifle. Next, buy a set of Leupold Dual Dovetail rings and Voila!...INSTANT LEUPOL DUAL DOVETAIL SYSTEM! The rings will barely fit on the scope because the bases will sit farther apart than normal (I used this trick to mount a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20 X 44mm) but it works and it works really well! I wish that Leupold would make a set of bases that truly fit the Savage Model 12 VLP-S, but until then...This gets the job done nicely (that is, at least if you are using a Nikon Monarch). If you do this, make sure that you use the short Torx screws for the front base and the long ones for the rear base to avoid contacting the bolt.I would have given these bases 5 stars, but paying for two sets of bases on one rifles stinks! HOWEVER, Savage is at least partly to blame because they keep changing their receivers (unlike Remington 700's which are all basically the same). Savage has made some documentation about using two of the same rear bases on Weaver systems, which is where I got the idea from. In fact, there is also some information about this somewhere on Midway's website if you can find the link.

These bases work perfectly on my savage 10 .308. As far as them not working properly - you guys need to go to Leupolds website and watch the installation video. It clearly shows they are meant to be used with the rear base "reversed".

these are some of the worst bases Ive ever used. I used them in conjunction with the leupold rings that go with them, and I ran into nothing but problems. the rear base had to be mounted backwards, as specified by other people here, and it actually gets in the way of loading and unloading, if I pull the bolt fast nothing happens, but when I pull it out slow the casing hits the base, and falls back into the receiver. this isnt my problem however, since I can operate just fine with this, my problem is the fact that they packaged very cheap screws with this. after I bought an EGW picatinny and weaver rings, I tried to take the bases and rings off, to my dismay they were so cheap that they wore out almost immediately. now nothing I do can take the bases off, so Im stuck with these bases until I find some way to take them off without damaging my rifle. I am never buying another leupold product again and I will always advise other people to stay away from them as well.

Bought these bases for a 2009 Savage 111 FNCS 300 WIN MAG, had to mount the rear base in the forward position. It hangs out over ejection port, but doesn't interfere with the operation of the fire arm. Mounting is solid and problem free after 300+ rounds.

I don't get how you can sell a product that does not fit the very weapon it was designed for. Like everybody else, I had to reverse the rear base. It comes with long and short screws, but does not say which are for the front and which are for the rear. Didn't matter. The short screws stripped with hardly any force whatsoever and left me shopping for a new scope base anyway.

I have the 2 piece and they sit odd. You have to reverse the rear mount which causes the adjustment screws to project over the ejection port and looks funny. If you care about looks I would not recommend these for the savages how ever it seems to work well.

I used a set of these rings in conjunction with Leupold 30mm extended high rings to mount a Pentax Lightseeker 30, 6-24x50 on one of my Savage Mod. 12 LRPV's in .204 Ruger. You must mount the rear ring backward, but it doesn't protrude over the ejection port (left) at all and works great. I am ordering another set for my other Mod. 12 LRPV

I recently used this base to mount a Leupold Scope on a left handed Savage model 14 American Classic rifle in .223 Remington. It is necessary to mount the rear base with the screw toward the muzzle. After 40-50 rounds, no problems. A benefit to mounting the rear base this way is that it allows the scope to be mounted farther forward.

I had the same problem as those listed above on my Savage 16. If the rear base is mounted properly the bolt will not open. If it is reversed it solves the bolt issue, but the base sticks out over the receiver a good inch and interferes with the loading/unloading of ammo. I sent mine back and swapped them for a set of Burris bases. I'm going to go on the assumption that this issue would also exist for my Savage model 14AC as well. Shame on Leupold for producing and marketing a product that has no chance of functioning properly.

I do not believe this set will fit the new Stevens/Savage model 200 rifles. The back mount is to long. Buris mounts are available- burris #410546 and 410246, I believe. check at burrisoptics.com under their mounts fit chart. I love leupold but their chart is behind and does not show this rifle.
