The CMMG Bolt Hold Open Acuator allows for full function of your rifle's existing bolt catch. The CMMG actuator is compatible with any .22 LR Atchisson-style conversion kit, dedicated or drop-in. It optimizes magazine fit and removes play between the upper and lower. In order to function, the actuator must be used in conjuction with magazines that have been upgraded with CMMG's Bolt Hold Open followers and springs. Minor fitting of the actuator may be required before use.

It does what it says, perhaps too well.. It holds the bolt open, even when you need it to not be held. Testing this on two rifles, apparently the bhoa will keep the bolt out of battery (50/50 chance) while cycling. I believe this may be an incompatibility with BAD or EBR levers, since I found I have to apply pressure to the bolt release and pull the charging handle again to bring it back to battery, and pray it doesn't happen often while firing. I'd rate this 2/5, concept is good, to use the bolt catch would have been amazing, but execution seems poor.

Good product...does what ...

Good product...does what its supposed to do, if tuned and setup properly...on one of my rifles it functioned perfectly...my other one needed some tuning and modding to work. What I found was the interface between bhoa and the rifles bho was too loose, a touch of JB weld on my bho helped to fill the gap and eIiminate the play. Also the JB did not affect normal 223 rifle function.

Nice idea but poor ...

Nice idea but poor function. It worked intermittently when correctly adjusted and the magazine in perfect condition. Once the magazine or the actuator has small amount of dirt or wear, it won't work at all.

The Bolt hold open device ...

The Bolt hold open device I received flat out does not work. Nice in theory but like most CMMG products its hit or miss. That has been my experience.

Worked ok out of the box. ...

Worked ok out of the box. After the 3rd use the BHOA got stuck in between the upper & lower of my DPMS. When I seperated my upper & lower the BHOA broke in half.

Very difficult to adjust ...

Very difficult to adjust correctly, set screw strips easily because the threads are plastic/poly. We never made it to the range with this device before it broke.

Used this in my RockRiver ...

Used this in my RockRiver Carbine, works well and makes the action work the way it should. Only issue is that it is only accurate out to 25yds, beyond that in a 1:8 barrel the bullets are 8 in spread at 4o'clock on the target at 50yds. 223 at 50yards 5 shots 3/4 in dead center from the bench. Works well in my Rock River with 1:12 barrel Varmint Rifle

If you buy this as an ...

If you buy this as an afterthought to your conversion kit that does not hold the bolt open, Be sure you have the right magazine followers to active this device. Allow and expect a lot of tinker time to get this device adjusted just right as it is a lot of open the receiver, close the receiver, open, close. Once you just find the over adjustment, you find the right setting. However, it does do what it says it does. The lower rating is just due to the frustration factor.
