The Forster die locking ring features an easy to use cross bolt that connects the two ends of the ring instead of a traditional screw style design that tightens directly into the threads of the die. This results in a more precise connection of the locking ring threads to the die threads and a more reliable alignment with no canting and no damage to the die threads. Tightening or loosening the cross bolt requires only a screwdriver. Fits all standard 7/8" x 14 dies from most manufacturers.

I've used three rings of this type. The Hornady which I've already rated, this Forster, and most recently the Lyman. I like the full round rings rather than the wrench flats of the Hornady. The Forster is cheaper than Hornady if you buy the 12 pack, however the single ring price of the Lyman is even cheaper. Also the Lyman uses a allen head screw which I like better. You have to push on a screwdriver to keep it in the slot. This can sometimes cause the ring or dye to turn, changing the adjustment. That's not a problem with an allen head. I'm not sure yet if the Hornady or the Lyman ring will fit in the slot of the Forster (Bonanza) press they but should work equally well on all others.

I have had a Bonanza (now ...

I have had a Bonanza (now Forster) co-ax press since 1971 and I would not want to use any other single stage press; bar none. The co-ax press requires rings of the exact outside diameter and thickness for use in the co-ax press. I own more than 30 sets of dies and every time I purchase new dies I automatically purchase new Forster rings at the same time. Granted these rings will work with most single and multi stage presses but, as already noted in other reviews, the diameter of the Forster rings may not be suitable for other than Forster applications.

These rings are great but ...

These rings are great but as others have commented, having a screwdriver head is not smart. I'll have to replace the screws with an allen head. I'm also not as bullish on aluminum for the material. Why not steel?

Best rings in the world ...

Best rings in the world for Forster Co Ax press, and other top loading presses, but not recommended for turret style makes. Holds die in a secure grip which does not damage the threads of the dies. What makes them so great for the Forster press is they are able to move fore and aft to ensure bullets are seated in direct relation to the case mouth.

I have a Forster press and these rings work great. I like the fact they do not damage the die threads as some others do. They stay locked in position and are easy to adjust.

I like these rings enough ...

I like these rings enough to keep ordering them. They are split rings that have a screw to clamp them securely to the die. I own several sets of Lee dies with their despicable rings, with "O" rings, that don't stay in place even if you do follow their directions. These are a great way to put real locking rings on those dies. I'm slowly replacing the Lee rings with these and I'm much happier. I use the Lee rings for targets.

This locking ring is far ...

This locking ring is far superior to it's solid ring competition. Other rings furnished, utilize a hex head set screw and require an allen wrench to loosen them which often leaves the die threads marred and difficult to turn the lock ring without a wrench or pliers. The Forster ring use a standard slot screw and a squeezing principal to lock the ring and never mar the die threads and make adjustment difficult. I am gradually converting all of my lock rings to Forster.

these are OK, but I like the Hornady with the flats better. I like getting a wrench on the dies.
