Product Information

The Laser Genetics ND3 Laser Designator will allow you to turn your scoped rifle into a night hunter. It mounts on top of your scope and is adjustable for beam size, so you can illuminate a target at night up to 250 yards away. Included with the laser designator is a Weaver-style ring, a binocular and spotting scope mount, a 1" scope mount with adjustable elevation and windage, pressure switch and CR123 3V battery.

Note: This is a class 2M laser product.

This is a very cool idea. ...

This is a very cool idea. I could not wait to try this light. However, the moment the light was focused to a wider beam, the less the distance it would shine. If I wanted to see an entire bobcat, it would have to come within 120-140 yards. Also, I had trouble with the light once the temp dropped down to 40 degrees. I sent mine back and purchased an XLR 250.

It sounded like a great idea - and it worked good one night on a hog hunt just after dark.But on the 2nd trip - it was virtually worthless on a clear starry night in the desert, and I sent mine back for a refund!

I used a friends quite a bit. As others have said, this is a no go in cool weather. Fun to play with in fair to warm weather, but not worth $300 in my opinion.

I've got this thing ...

I've got this thing mounted to my Nikon 4-16x 50mm Monarch. 1. The light doesn't have a consistent brightness to the beam. I have to bump the light to give me a brighter beam. 2. The remote pressure switch is junk! It turns the light on, but it flickers and never will get a good connection to give you a bright beam. 3. 250 yards is a load of garbage. I'll give you 100 yards. After 100 yards you'll have the beam so concentrated that you will not be able to see very much at all of the animal. Maybe you could get 250 yards on a full moon night with a good scope.Three strikes and you're out. I'm returning this and going to try the larger version. And if its this bad then I will just to save my cookies for real night vision!

I ordered the ND3 laser ...

I ordered the ND3 laser designator with high hopes and could not wait to try it out. The first time I hunted with it was in South Texas on a night time pig hunt with temperatures between 38 and 42 degrees. The laser faded out as soon as I turned it on. It will not operate in relatively cool to cold temperatures even after replacing the battery. I contacted BSA optics and they told me they were aware of the problem and suggested wrapping the laser in a hand warmer to make it work. I promptly returned it for a refund.

This is much better than ...

This is much better than having a mounted flashlight. Being able to adjust the beam allows for excellent illumination at close quarters, while being able to adjust to smaller, more intense beam for greater distances. It's as close to good night-vision as I think you can get for $300. The only reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 is that right off the bat I mounted it to my 10/22, just to go in the back yard to "play". First shot the light went out. Turned it off and back on and it worked. After shooting 50 rounds, the light would dim, go off, come on, with each shot (even with the minimal 22 recoil). I believe it is the battery connection in the button that is the culprit. I could screw the cap a little and would get the same variation in beam intensity. I have not "played" with it since this first time, but I want to try changing batteries first, as the battery that came with it was some cheap battery. If it still acts up, I'm going to call the manufacturer and see what I should do.

It's a neat idea that ...

It's a neat idea that just might not be quite there yet. To see out past 150 yards, you'll have to focus the beam pretty tight....which makes a coyote turn his head. Hogs, cats and foxes aren't bothered by it at all. This particular unit is mounted to a set of Nikon 12x56 ATB's and I have detected animals/movement at 250+ yards (Leica LRF1200). The bino mount is a little sloppy, allowing the light to flop around a bit. I made a shim out of some cardboard packaging and it tightens up nicely by hand now. I have friends that say the battery life is short in below freezing weather, but I have not personally experienced this issue.Cool gizmo, just don't buy it to hunt coyotes with.
