Zediker's writing style ...

Zediker's writing style is tedious to read. He intentionally misspells words and uses bad grammar. I suppose this is to sound "folksy". He also tends to wander off the primary train of thought during a paragraph.However, the information in this book makes it well worth the struggle of reading through it. He discusses many procedures and techniques and provides his opinion on the relative value of them. This leads to good recommendations on where to first spend your hard-earned bucks while trying to improve your loads.Summary: Information contained - great. Presentation - have you read Faulkner?

This book contains a wealth of information. I read every word and many headings twice or more. However, the writing style is tedious at best, it is almost mind numbing to read even if you are starved for the information. I questioned the message value of some lengthly sections mostly because you have to sift out the salient information from the usless drivel, tiring anticdotes and repeat references. There are many good pointers to he had in the text and lessons to be learned. The book could have covered all them easily in half the 445 pages contained in this tome.

This has to be the absolute BEST book on hand loading I have ever read...period! Although Zediker is specifically targeting (pun intended) the precision minded shooter/hand loader, he explains WHY hand loaders do the various processes we perform, and HOW to go about them with the proper tools. Some reviewers complain about the author's prose, but honestly (and maybe this is due to the fact that, like Zediker, I too hold a BA in English) this is the first book on hand loading that I couldn't put down!This book does not read like your typical "technical manual." It's much more akin to having a mentor sitting next to you at your loading bench explaining the ins and outs of hand loading for precision. He is absolutely not an author without his opinions, but unlike many writers on these topics, he doesn't shove them down your throat as if his way is the only way. He actually comes across as quite open minded in several places in the text (although he may make a remark like "Won't say don't do it but will say I sho don't.")If you're new to hand loading, I would not recommend reading this text until you are familiar with the basic processes involved at the loading bench. Having said that, there are definitely explanations that folks at all levels will find beneficial here. For anyone who is interested in upping the ante, however, please take the following advice: Before stocking your bench with new tools for precision hand loading, STOP! Read this book first. Trust me...you'll save yourself time, money, and perhaps some frustration by doing so.

If you're looking for a "how-to," this is not it. The author doesn't provide facts and techniques in a clear and understandable manner. His writing technique is long-winded, disorganized and the reader quickly loses the point being made. Additionally, his vernacular is tedious and exhausting to read. While there is a lot of information and he's obviously experienced, it's just too hard to get past his style and to the subject matter.

Wish I had read this book before I bought those neck-sizing dies! It's a good book with a wealth of information. Sometimes his style can be difficult, but with the way things work, and all of the tangential information available, it would be difficult to be very direct and lend to the understanding behind his reasoning.

I read a couple of Zediker's books. While the technical content is okay, his style makes reading this book a painful slog. The information conveyed could be conveyed in one tenth the verbiage and one hundredth the aggravation. After reading this book, I asked myself exactly what I picked up from it, and was it worth the time. I have to say, I didnt pick up anything particularly unique, and no, it wasnt worth the time I invested in it. There are many clearer, more concise, less equivocal sources for any of the information in this book.

This book has a lot of info that you want to find in a regular reloading manual. Also it tells you why you should do certain things in reloading. However, I think that the author is a "smart Alec" and it shows in his writing style. It makes this book hard to read in spots. Hope that Zediker reads this. Could be a better book.

This is a great book for anyone looking to improve their handloading. The author does a great job of explaining each process and how it effects accuracy. He has a very down to earth way of looking at precition handloading. I think anyone looking to improve accuracy and efficiency of handloading will benefit from this book.

This guidebook to precision loading is fundamentally crippled by Glenn Zediker's willfully oddball writing style. There is good information here, but it is often buried under layers of equivocation and circumlocution, leaving the reader with the distinct impression that Mr. Zediker has only anecdotal evidence to support his assertions. Combine this with his perverse, forced use of "yokel grammar" and the book becomes a painful read.I suspect that the solid information in this tome (and there is some solid info!) could be condensed into about 1/5th the pages if some Mr. Zediker would organize the material and be a bit less verbose. While Mr. Zediker's prose is not impenetrable, it is obtuse.

I compete in Long-Range Practical rifle competitions and have recently begun handloading to improve my accuracy in these competitions. I thought adding "Handloading for Competition" might make a good addition to my set of reloading books to expand my knowledge in this area. Unfortunately, the author's use of the English language is extremely poor and it makes this book extremely frustrating to read. Frankly, I gave up reading after the first chapter. Try elsewhere.
