Just a quick update to my previous post regarding a potentially dangerous issue found during final assembly. After blueing, a small roll pin is driven into the side to prevent the lever from coming out. On my unit, the pin was slightly too long, causing interference with the cocking piece when driven flush with the outside of the safety body. I didn't discover this until dry firing the rifle and experienced a hang. The pin held the cocking piece and prevented the firing pin from moving forward. This condition is very unsafe and could result in an unexpected discharge. I didn't have a punch small enough to drive the pin out so I had to very carefully grind it shorter using a dremel. The blueing inside the safety was scuffed which may result in rusting down the road, I wasn't very happy. The safety is a good product and I'll use one again. Just watch out for this issue by measuring the pin and shortening it if necessary prior to installation. Good shooting!

This safety really dresses up a Mauser sporter project and works very well once installed. As another poster mentioned, the threads are rough at first and probably will prevent the safety from completely screwing onto the bolt. A half hour with some valve grinding compound is all that's needed to correct it though. I also recommend being cautious regarding milling the cocking piece and start by removing less material than the instructions indicate. Once complete though, the safety works very smoothly and looks great.

Unfortunately I had to return the one I received. I think the one I got slipped past Dakota's Quality Control folks. Everything on it was great except the threads that go into the bolt body. The threads weren't fully machined. They had the correct pitch, correct large diameter, and correct angle BUT it needed another pass or two on the lathe to get them to spec. Midway handled the return like champs. As soon as there are some in stock again I'll re-order. I gave it a "good" rating because everything about it was great except what I've mentioned.
