This is a expensive bit. ...

This is a expensive bit. I agonized over the price! However, I was drilling and tapping a mauser 98 and it cant be done with anyting less! Flawless holes. Tip use type F ATF fluid for Tap Lubricant after drilling. All others are too thick and chips do not clear. I broke one tap and was lucky too extract it. I switched to ATF for cutting fluid and next two holes were a breeze. Tap magic was too thick!

I used this bit to drill ...

I used this bit to drill my A3-03 Springfield rifle. I had tried other bits, but they only scratched off the military green coating. This bit drilled into the hard steel like it was drilling into HOT BUTTER. It is worth its weight in gold, when drilling old military rifles. Will use again on my 98 Mauser soon. Great product.

Same as above review. I also used this to drill/tap for scope mount on my Springfield 03-A3. Normal tool steel drill bits wouldn't even make a scratch and instantly dulled. The receiver is so hard that I couldn't even center-punch it. This drill bit went through like butter. The hole sizing was perfect due to the straight flute design. As always, make sure to use cutting oil and clear chips frequently. This is an excellent product.

I do all my own ...

I do all my own gunsmithing. (The easy stuff; ie. sights, scopes, barrel liners, trigger jobs, etc.) I recently undertook the task of mounting a receiver mounted rear peep sights on a milsurp Schmidt Rubin K-31 rifle. The metal that the receiver was made of was so hard that my standard Cobalt drills wouldn't even scratch the surface of the receiver. After consulting with those that had a little more experience with this kind of gunsmithing I was made aware of these Hi-Roc drill bits as a means to drilling into the super hard metal on my K-31's receiver. They're a little pricey but, when you consider that my local gunsmith of choice would have charged me nearly twice the price of one of these small drill bits, I think I got a pretty good deal; especially when you consider that I still have this Hi-Roc drill bit and it still fully functional. If your eye-sight is anything like mine and the iron sights on your rifle are just a blur, you either mount a scope or you mount a set of receiver mounted rear peep sights on your rifle in order to give you the depth of field to see both the sights and the target. At least I do anyway. For anyone considering drilling and tapping into the kind of super hard metals that some of the old military surplus are made of, I'd highly recommend these Hi-Roc's. They cut through that super hard metal in no time flat; something that my expensive "High End" cobalt drills weren't able to do.
