The Springfield Armory ...

The Springfield Armory Sling is of excellant quality and durability. The only problem is this type of sling does not come with a set of instructions or drawings showing the proper placement and connectios. A drawing would have been of great assistance in getting it installed on my M-1. Otherwise, I would have given it a 5 star rating, without it, four stars.

I bought this sling 2 years ago. The leather is high quality and the sling looks great on my CMP M-1 Garand. However, the stitching on the keepers leaves a bit to be desired. When adjusting the sling for the prone position or the sitting position, moderate strain is put on the keeper closest to the bicep. That keeper is now 2 stitches away from the garbage can and I've used the sling twice in practice and twice in a John C. Garand Match. Were it not for the poor durability of the keepers, I'd give 5 stars but as it is, I'm shopping for spare keepers or a different sling.

Very disappointed with this sling. The leather is very heavy a totally dry but could be fixed with neats foot oil. The stiching on the keepers is very poor. My biggest complaint was the hooks were bent up instead of down to compensate for the thickness of the leather. They went up before bending down to hook into the holes in the strap. I had to use plyers to open them up to install and then bend them down to make them stay hooked. Even though were were no instructions I found very good illistaed one on the CMP websight. Anyway I took it off and put my cotton web sling back on. More correct for my 1954 M1 anyway.

Leather quality is fine, but stitching on sling and keepers is poor and began separating while sling was being installed. Sling hook fittings will not fit through my swivels, while other M1907 sling hooks will.

This sling has good quality, may be good as a regular sling for that Garand. 47" long, which is too short to be used as a National match sling for a AR-15 service rifle. It is too short and thus too tight to be used as an arm sling for prone. Also, NM sling rules do not allow modifications-additions of hooks or odd connections.

Leather is completely dry, oil it before handling.Hooks are painted steel and a little flimsy. Rivets are not flush headed so there may be difficulty fitting through swivels with an opening less than .260" Comes incorrectly assembled to fit better in the package.The leather quality matches the price. If you want better leather, spend more. If you are after the military look, go for it.

It's OK. The leather I received was much thinner than the last few reviews...3/16", and rivets were quite cheap. Keepers used thin sewing thread. I compared it to my friends MRT gunshow special and found for more $, I would have chose the MRT...thicker leather, heavier linen thread, solid copper rivets. I had expected better from Springfield Armory.

"Wicked Good!" Plain, super- heavy duty leather & hardware. Put baseball glove oil on it & rigged it up per the picture in TM-9-1270 [1903 Springfield manual]. Looks nice on the kid's Remington 700!
