This new manual from ...

This new manual from Nosler has been long-time coming but was worth the wait. It is about 100 pages longer than the previous edition, and includes quite a few new calibers. New rifle calibers include 5.56 NATO, 223 WSSM, 243 WSSM, 25 WSSM, 6.5 Rem Mag, 7mm SAUM, 7mm WSM, 7mm RUM, 300 RUM, 325 WSM, 338 Fed, 338 Lapua, 338 RUM, 338-378 Wby, 9.3x62, 9.3x74R, 9.3x64 Brenneke, and 375 Ruger. Some new powders are tested with the older cartridges, but much of the data is carried over from the last edition. One good addition is the max cartridge length- it has been added to the cartridge drawings. The load density data has also been updated, more accurately reflecting the case filling for each selected load.This is definitely worth the purchase, as it includes all the new bullets, including CT bullets that Nosler has produced since the printing of the 5th edition.

After researching several ...

After researching several brand name reloading books like Speer, Barnes, Sierra & Hornady, I finally decided to order the Nosler #6. Although I found several good loads for my rifles (300 WSM, 30-06, 270, 223) I found it lacking in the handgun category, specifically the 45 ACP. Now this is a caliber that anyone would assume there would be plenty of data for. I found only 1 load for the .45 ACP. I really wanted to rate this book higher as I use Nosler bullets frequently. I was very disappointed. Other calibers that I load, 40, 9mm 45 long colt seem to be adequately covered, but not the 45 ACP.If you're looking to specifically load this, try the Hodgdon, or Hornady books instead of this one.

For me, this is pretty much a Rifle reloading book more than anything else. I will admit I don't really like the pistol reloading data because the loads I do for my pistol are for either Home Defense or Target Shooting, not Hunting, which is the design of the handgun rounds more or less. Saying that though, I have gotten loads for my .243, .270, & several .30-06's that preformed far beyond what any other reloading manual I have could produce in consistency. My .270 with one of the loads got an MOA ranging from .45" at best and .75" at worst. If you want a reloading manual for rifles of hunting calibers, I will swear by this manual. However, for odd calibers and handgun rounds I suggest something like Hornady or Speer.

I purchased this book for updates on my .223 and my .270 I use 4064 in both. Neither caliber has 4064 listed so the book is useless to me. I will have to go with a better more up to date brand.

This manual may be slightly out dated but I love it. So far I only load for 223 Remington so a few year old info hasn't been an issue for me. Compared to my Speer manual, this one is much easier to use to find my load data. It also gives the most accurate powder tested which my Speer manual does not. I think it even gives the most accurate bullet tested. Granted these results are only for that particular riffle, but they do list the barrel twist rate and I like knowing what worked best for them as it helps me have a direction to work towards while hand loading for better accuracy.

This is my favorite manual for rifle hand loads. It has a nice selection of powders for each cartridge. Powder charges are listed in 3 stages: starting, mid way, and max. Velocities are also listed for each powder charge. A notation indicates which of the 3 powder levels yielded the best accuracy. The overall powder with the best accuracy is also identified.Besides the load data, the intro gives a short history of the company and its founders. Each cartridge is accompanied by a one page dialogue discussing the rounds overall use and history.A nice book to add to your collection. Handgun loads are also discussed with load data. I took off a star because minimum cartridge length is not specified for each bullet / powder combo.

Nice graphics in this hardbound advertisement for Nosler products. The article on 45 ACP claims the best accuracy for Nosler 45 bullets using N350 or Power Pistol powder, but there is no data on using these powders in the load tables. I wasted money on a four year old book, I should have read all the reviews first.

For those who have to learn all this on their own the section at the beginning which gives the step by step instructions is very informative. The introductions at the beginning of each cartridge are informative (how the cartridge was developed, cartridge family, accuracy potential, recommended uses). My only beef with the book is that Nosler doesn't supply a recommended overall-length for their bullets. Honestly though if you want to nit-pick, this is really just a ball park number for you to start at. You need to play with brass/powders/primers/bullet type/seating depth to find your rifle's "pet load". Good luck & enjoy.

Another top quality manual from Nosler. I like how they lay out their data. It is easy to read and understand at a glance. While some people complain that it doesn't list their favorite load or bullet, it must be remembered that folks who publish the manuals are publishing their data using their components. One manual is not going to do it all, which I why I have several and cross reference them. Personally, I prefer Winchester brass, Nosler bullets, Hodgdon powders and Hornady reloading gear. The Nosler Reloading Guide Number 6 is a vital part of my reloading gear.

Nice addition to my older edition as I've always liked the cartridge fill capacity listed for each load. But I do question the differences in fill data between #5 & #6 did cartridge capacity somehow change for identical loads?
