Lapping the slide on your 1911 can be a tedious task. This tool makes the process less difficult. The end of the tool is shaped like a 1911 Government barrel bushing. To use, start the (disassembled) slide on the frame, insert the end of the tool into the end of the slide as if it were a barrel bushing. By securing the frame in a suitable fixture, lapping compound can be applied to the frame rails and then the slide is moved back and forth on the frame rails until the desired fit is achieved. This tool will give the gunsmith something to grasp besides the slide itself, reducing or avoiding the need to tap on the slide with another object.
