Like other reviewers stated the tool is too big in diameter. I had to chuck it into my drill and sand it down with 120 grit paper, worked slick after that. Like stated shouldn't have to modify a tool to get it to work. I could've used a .25" clevise pin and sanded that down to work just as well.

Excellent tool

I have several of these around the bench and use them over the "other solutions. My only " wish " for the item would be that they made one in polymer for scratch resistance with tighter lowers. Excellent tool and a little dry lube works just fine.

Great tool with this tip: When you push this tool back out with the pivot pin, push from BOTH ends to keep pin and tool pressed together until the end of the pivot pin is past the detent. Otherwise, the detent squeezes between them. Once you've figured it out, it's obvious, but instructions would have been nice.

I lost 2 Pivot pins when building my M-4. Then I ordered this and and a new pivot pin from Midway. Makes installation easy. Would have given it 5 stars if it came with instructions. I didn't need them, but I can imagine that a new AR builder could certainly use instructions to go with this tool. Very solid and I will use it to build a few more AR's and to update the pivot pin/spring when mine show signs of wear.

This tool fits very tight in most NEW receivers. In some I have had to use "persuasion" to get this tool in and out of position. Other than that, its a great tool for the price.

I've used it a couple times now. Works great. I could not get the pivot pin installed without it, and I think I launched a detent and mangled a spring in the process of trying to do it without the tool. It's one of those things that's a thousand times easier with the right tool.

Take a file to burrs ...

Take a file to burrs before you stick it in your receiver with some scotchbrite around the diameter for a few strokes before sticking it into your receiver. Otherwise, great little tool for making your pivot pin installs easy. Look up on the AR forums on how to use if not familiar as no instructions included. For $4, can't complain.

This little tool is great, but make sure you have a quality Lower Parts Kit before starting. I had some "lowest priced" LPK at first, uggghh. With the tool inserted in the Pivot Pin's hole and the Detent Spring and Detent Pin inserted in the hole at the end of the tool, I tried for days to get the detent pin depressed enough to rotate this tool clockwise so I could slip the Pivot Pin into the lower receiver. The pin wouldn't go deep enough no matter how much I pressed and my punch kept slipping out of the hole shooting my Detent Pin across the room. This kept happening until I lost both pins and mangled the spring. I ordered replacement pins and springs and once I got them in it took all of two minutes to install that Pivot Pin with this tool.

I have used this tool for my most recent builds and I must say that it takes the risk out of the equation for a small price. In the past I would use a razor blade to depress the detent whilst inserting the pivot pin. This method worked for me but one slip and you loose the spring and detent into oblivion. This tool is worth the $4.00
