Produced from 1851-1872, the Navy is one of the most famous and widely-used cap and ball revolvers ever produced. These dependable guns are perfectly balanced. The 1861 has a round barrel and features a 6-shot cylinder, fixed sights and a 1-piece walnut grip.

I have been using my 1861 ...

I have been using my 1861 in SASS shooting for a couple of years now, and it has given exemplary service. The only change I made was to install Thunder Ridge nipples, and open up the notch rear sight in the hammer. It has never had a failure to fire. The fit and finish are top notch, with the exception of the rather plane case hardening on the frame (the loading lever is quite the opposite, with great colors!) The insides were quite good too, with little to be smoothed to get it ready for competition. Timing is spot-on. Grips fit good, and are a decent walnut. Mine has the steel grip frame, which is a slightly different contour that the brass grip frame of the "civilian" version, or the 1851 standard model. I prefer the steel grip frame (personal preference). It is smooth in action, and is acceptably accurate with .375 round ball, preferably Speer, as Hornady are a little small in .375 size. (I haven't tried conical). All in all, great revolver! I will get another to match this one.

This is a top quality cap & ball revolver. The fix and finish on mine is excellent with good wood to metal fit and with mechanical "timing" perfect. Revolver such as these are clearly ones that require patience and practice to load --but therein lies the allure of the black powder revolver --a return to an earlier time when a firearms required more "hands on" effort to load and shoot well. Speaking of shooting well, the one concern I had about this, as well as other blackpowder cap & ball revolvers were the rudimentary sights they come with. However, once you get used to the sights, and have developed a load that finds your particular revolvers "sweet spot", these revolvers are quite accurate for both range and small game hunting applications.The fact that this 1861 Colt Navy appears regularly on "Backorder", should give you an indication of just how popular this revolver is --be it for the new blackpowder shooter or the more experienced. I don't think you will be disappointed investing in the Uberti 1861 Colt Navy. I know I have never been disappointed by mine.

Fantastic fit and finish. I've already purchased the Walker and 1858 Remington, both equally well made and excellently fitted. The only minor exception was a build-up of material in the hammer channel on the 1858. Uberti is first class all the way.

I have three black powder ...

I have three black powder revolvers Uberti 1860 Army, Uberti 1861 Navy, and a Pietta 1851 Navy. Ubertis areabout 3 years old, Pietta unknown, probably older. The Ubertis are nicer than the Pietta, but with CNC etc things may be different now. The Pietta's machining on the back of the cylinder where the nipples screw in varies in depth - three shallower, three deeper, so I get misfires on over the other cylinder. Probably simplest fix would be new cylinder.I also have my great-grandfather's original 1861 Navy, so I can directly compare. One thing about all the .36 cal replicas is the original .36 cal barrel is a lot thinner - the replicas seem to use the .44 cal barrel on both the .36 and .44. Saves different machining of lever, etc, but too bad, as the original is much more elegant feeling, lighter forward.

Uberti did an excellent job in producing this model. I purchased two and they are identical in appearance. Excellent finish without any flaws. Good hand fit, with solid lock-up and barrel alignment. They are as close to perfect as you can get. Both hit dead on at 15 yard point-of-aim.

I AM A NORTH-SOUTH SKIRMISH COMPETITOR (N-SSA.ORG), AND HAVE WON TWO REGIONAL MATCHES WITH THIS GUN IN IT'S STOCK FORM (NO MODIFICATIONS WHATSOEVER). I HAVE FIRED 1.5" GROUPS WITH IT OFFHAND (ONE-HANDED AND OFFHAND, ACTUALLY), WITH SCORES AS HIGH AS 50-1X. THIS IS A PHENOMENAL REPRODUCTION, IN ITS QUALITY, ACCURACY, AND RELIABILITY. THERE IS NO BETTER COLT 1861 AT ANY PRICE, AND THIS GUN IS LIGHTYEARS AHEAD IN QUALITY THAN THE ORIGINALS EVER WERE (THANKS TO MODERN CNC MACHINING). I CANNOT RECCOMEND THIS GUN HIGHLY ENOUGH TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN A SUPER HIGH-QUALITY, HISTORICALLY ACCURATE CAP&BALL REVOLVER.

Just received my 1861 Navy and could not be more satisfied. The fit and finish is outstanding and it disassembles and assembles perfectly. I haven't fired this revolver yet but if great looks mean anything it should be a keeper. Midway's customer service was excellent in helping me with this purchase.

I have obtained a full range of Percussion Revolvers in the course of writing a book about their history and performance. My Uberti 61 Navy has become a personal favorite. After considerable shooting and some minor action work, it is very smooth and reliable. It hits very close to the sights and I have used it to collect several head of small game. It has proven accurate with a number of conical bullets as well as cast and swaged round ball. Timing, chamber/barrel dimensions and alignment are all optimum. It works best with Speer .375 round balls or with cast. 380s. Hornady .375 balls are undersized for the Uberti chambers.
