These punches were strong ...

These punches were strong enough to remove roll pins and taper pins on my AR. I experienced no bending of the small punch knocking out the gas tube roll pin and the steel and brass punches were up to the task of removing well-seated taper pins.

The smallest size punch ...

The smallest size punch in this set is really not up to the task of removing a gas tube roll pin. After only a few taps, the punch had started to bend. I proceeded cautiously and after another few taps, the punch separated completely from the handle. Larger sizes are ok, but not of outstanding quality.

Will not take care of all your AR Lower assembly needs...but most. The bolt catch roll-pin is challenging with this set.

Instead of saying "any ...

Instead of saying "any job" it should say "almost any job." These were not meant to do the heavy punch work that is required for removing the gas block pins installed on a Bushmaster barrel. I already ruined one punch trying to remove the pins. I had to go back to my tool box for one of my regular punches. Otherwise, they are okay for doing most of the AR work.

This set is not too bad. Tried to change out the front sight on my Delton AR15. Knocking out the pins was tough & the second smallest size (Outside Diameter) was slightly larger than the hole size--had to file it down so it wouldn't jam when driving the pins out. The smallest one bent several times so I know it'll break the next time I have to use it. Working with the retaining pin for the gas tube, the O.D. of the smallest size punch is too small and the next size up the O.D. is too large. Overall, good quality but pin diameters are not correct to do basic gas tube & front sight work. Wish I had measured the roll pins before I reinstalled them and compared that to the O.D. of the punches. Note that I was able to change out my front sight to YHM filp-ups, but had to be very careful not to break the smallest punch. Also, the second smallest punch is now slightly bent but still usable.

Great set of punches. I installed the forward assist yesterday using the 3/32 punch and it was very sturdy and worked great. This punch set if very sturdy and strong. Can't wait to put the rest of my AR15 together.

I did manage to get an AR-15 lower assembled using these but the quality is pretty poor. They're not well finished on the business end. The sized shaft is rough and pitted. The ends are rounded over at the edges; not flat and not square to the shaft. I suggest buying a higher quality punch set - whether you're building or maintaining one AR or if you're a gunsmith.
