The Weigand Extractor Adjustment Tool is an absolute "must-have" if you service your 1911 pistol.Because your extractor's tension is critical to the pistol's reliability, getting a 'close' fit won't cut it. It must be right. This tool is a work of genius. In only a matter of minutes you'll be able to easily and accurately obtain just the right amount of tension. The instructions included with the tool are simple and right to the point. With this tool, I also bought and recommend Weigand's inexpensive Extractor Tension Gauge set. Using a simple, and also inexpensive, RCBS trigger pull gauge, you'll be able to determine and adjust your extractor's tension to whatever weight you desire. It's so simple that even a caveman can do it!I recently replaced a very well worn extractor from a friend's Kimber 1911 with a Wilson Combat Bullet Proof extractor (itself a thing of machined beauty)using Weigand's tool and the results could not have been better. This tool works, it's American made, and costs very little. I love it!

I like this extractor jig ...

I like this extractor jig a lot. This jig in combination with of the Weigand extractor tension guage and a RCBS trigger pull scale (the model that is round and has recording indicator, which is very helpful in this application) can set the extractor tension accurately without having to chuck the extractor in a vice and bend it hoping you don't over or under do it. The first extractor i adjusted was way over tensioned (4 lbs and target tension is 1.75 lbs). The jig can be used to take tension off just flip the extractor over and start putting tension on her (instructions tell you to unbend the extractor by hand and start over if it is over tensioned). It didn't seem to be working too well, the measured tension wasn't being reduced very much at all a couple of ounces if any each time though the jig. I kept bending it more and then I walked away for about 5 minutes with the extractor in the jig and then it had no tension. The light went off, I need to let the extractor stay in the jig for about 3-5 minutes to take the bend. It only took me two times in the jig to bend the appropriate amount of tension after figuring this out. The second extractor was a new extractor and it didn't have any tension, put it in the jig once at the same position the final bend of the last extractor was done, let her sit for 4-5 minutes too her out and was spot on 1.75 lbs on tension. I felt the lock nut on the screw that sets the depth of the bend was not really needed. The jig includes instructions on a print out, and either this jig or the extractor tension guage set had a reprint of a Brownells Bench Talk article on 1911 Auto Extractor Adjustment written by Jack Weigand.It's made of 1 3/4 x 1" bar stock aluminum CNC milled and rock tumbled to deburr the jig.

This jig makes extractor tensioning very easy, fast, and accurate. I've used the bend and hope method for many years. This Jig has made my extractor tuning a minute or two job. Be sure to get the tension gage that goes with this tool. It simplifies making a final check. Before this gage was available, I'd use a loaded 230 gr round and if it was held in place while turning the slide on a horizontal axis, then I would consider my job done. This tool is easier and totally accurate in checking for the degree of tension of the 1911 Extractor.
