I bought this sear ...

I bought this sear because there were mixed reviews on another brand's replacement sear, uniform reviews on this make. And I had good luck with a Timney trigger on a Savage 110. This sear installed easily, in part because the 77/22 action is held together with 1/8" pins. The trigger needed a little filing to clear the safety. That work is pretty straightforward. The resulting trigger pull is really nice. Probably about 2-3#. Not quite like "breaking a thin glass rod," but close. My 77/22 has been cranking out 1/2" 50-yard groups with Wal-Marts .22LR ammo. I'm sure it will do even better with the improved trigger pull. I think the gun is shooting better than I can hold, even with sandbag rests! I would certainly buy this sear again, as the stock Ruger trigger pull was straight from the product liability lawyers' desks. Have fun. Shoot safely.

First, let me say that the new sear does provide a much better let off than the stock sear. However, the claim that it is adjustable is somewhat misleading. It does have an adjustment screw, but comes with absolutely no instruction as to how to make the adjustment. I would expect it to come with the proper hex wrench but it does not, nor do the instructions indicate what size wrench to use. Further, when I e-mailed Timney for instructions and what size wrench to use, they did not reply. Their customer service leaves much to be desired. Guess if you have a good reputation you can afford to ignore your customer.

Gave this product to my gunsmith to install. He could not get it to fit. Said it wasn't cut right. I was very surprised as I have a Timney trigger in one of my AR-15's and it is great. I am returning it to Midway for a refund.

Product was "Easy" to install. However mine needed a great deal of touching up. Had to grind material off for safety which wasn't hard. However, the rifle would constantly slam fire. Tech support was helpful however the product could not be used safely even after adjustments. Just upgrade the whole trigger assembly and be done with it.

(77/17) I knew when ordering this product that there would likely be some filing involved to make it fit. However, I found that after I filed the required parts the sear would not engage if the bolt were closed with any enthusiasm. It would engage if you closed the bolt slowly. I took the rifle to a gunsmith and the only thing he did was put the heavier Ruger factory spring back in my gun and that was enough to fix it. I doubt it is as light as the Timney spring, but I am still satisfied because it has very little creep with the Timney sear. I called Timney and they were very helpful in telling me that these things sometimes just don't fit right due to variations in Ruger rifles and they would take care of it for me if I sent it in. (++ points for Timney customer service)

Received the sear in rough form. Was not machined at all! Bolt would not even slide in until machined.

The sear was easy to ...

The sear was easy to install, but it did change the gap between the safety and the trigger to change. Careful filing to adjust took care of the problem so that the safety works correctly. Having a gunsmith do this installation might be a good idea for those who don't feel up to it. The trigger is glassy smooth and light. Can't wait to get out and shoot it.

I have installed a lot of Timney triggers over the years. Most have been just fine. This sear kit (at under $25) seemed to be just the ticket for my 77/44. With a little filing on the existing trigger for the safety to function, I got a 2lb. trigger (from 8lb. plus). It seems that most Ruger bolt actions need this modification for the Timney trigger instalation. It realy isn't a big deal. Just go slow. The instructions are self-explanitory. I like the sear adjustment also. A very nice result at a great price.

The Timney 77/22 sear works as advertised. It was somewhat difficult to install. I highly recommend that you have some small files. This can be installed by most people with a file or two in your toolbox. Your rifle's trigger will be much smoother with a very resonable pull.
