I also use the sight on my JP "home boy" sight. It isn't really bright, but it IS very visible and is small enough to get a reasonable sight picture - much better than the standard sights that come with the JP home boy. I also use one of these for the front sight for the BUIS on another AR. These are on a 45 degree rail and are essentially longer versions of the Home Boy sights mostly for close range work.

The fiber optic insert [ diameter ] is way too small . It does not gather enough light in most situations to actually be useful. I would not recommend the purchase of it. Find something else.

Don't know why this sight has gotten such a bad rap. I've got one on each of my AR-10 and AR-15 rifles. It is mounted at 1 O'clock on the end of my float tube. I only have to cant my rifles slightly to the left to acquire a great sight picture. It's perfect for what it was designed for on an AR, which is about 30 to 40 yards. Perfect for 3 gunning at close range where a scope would be too strong. True, they don't show up as good in low light, but then neither does any other fiber optic type sight. I put mine on the JP Short Range Tactical Sight. It is far better than the colored plastic posts they send with it, and it's very durable. The sight guards on the front of the JP sight give it ample protection from impact. Try one, I think you'll be happy.

If you're thinking that it will be as bright as a bow sight, it isn't even close. I find it not much better than the black post that came with the gun.
