Works great. Follow all instructions exactly. Disassemble parts completely. Use only distilled water or air conditioner condensate for cleaning and boiling.

I purchased this to blue ...

I purchased this to blue an old Iver Johnson barrel and receiver. If you follow the directions the product works great. I started with bare metal sanded to 400 grit then degreased using MEK. After applying the solution I left the parts suspended over a tray of water. The room temperature was about 50F. I boiled the parts in distilled water then carded using a degreased wire wheel and fine steel wool, also degreased. I repeated the process seven times to get the final finish. The starting finish on the metal is the most important part. You also must not handle the parts with your fingers. Any grease will prevent the blue from working.

Pilkington's formula provides superior results on classic rust blued firearms. Proper metal prep must be performed in advance. It requires a repetitious process of applying the formula, boiling the parts and carding the oxide off until the desired results are achieved. It is well worth the effort. The ending result is 2nd to none if done correctly. I have had spectacular results over the years.

I had never rust blued a ...

I had never rust blued a rifle before and this one turned out GREAT! The instructions are detailed and give some great advice. I restored an old sears 22 with this stuff and it looks good as new. One bottle seems like it would complete several rifles.

This stuff works great. There's only one rule, no shortcuts. The guy who wrote the instruction booklet obviously knows the correct way to rust blue a firearm...TAKE HIS ADVICE!

I use nothing else but this product. It is second to none! It's not fast but the blue shimmer it produces make even and old mauser look like a high grade weatherby. Unlike cold blues this is as tough or tougher than hot blueing. I love it and one bottle goes a long way.
