Product Information

Federal American Eagle Ammunition is loaded to NATO specifications, and even includes the green painted tip. This is the same ammunition currently being used by the US Military and is first run quality product. Headstamps will be marked with "LC" and the last two digits for the year of production. This ammunition is non-corrosive in boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases.

Please Note: While the 5.56x45mm NATO will fit in a .223 Remington chamber, the 5.56 is a military round that runs at higher pressures than its .223 counterpart and is not recommended to be fired in a .223 Remington chamber.

According to all the other reviews I do not know if I just got a bad run of this ammunition or what. The brass looked like it was taken off the battlefield in Afghanistan; it looked barely cleaned, then reloaded. Top that off with about every 4th round not feeding properly in my Ruger SR-556 using p-mags. Had to use my MUT to pull out several rounds. I also had about a dozen failure to fires as well. Its not the weapon or mags because that day I shot several other brands and had zero issues, also ran it through my RRA AR with the same issues. I'm sorry but I just can't give my blessings to this ammunition. I still have about 120 rounds sitting in the closet I will never use unless times get rough.

Shot these rounds a lot. ...

Shot these rounds a lot. Generally several 100 every week or so. The people saying the brass looks dirty: that's because it's a mil spec round. The military does not call for polishing after the brass has been brazed. So the front half of the case looks like it got verry hot. It did. All in all a good ammo that has stood up to trials over in the big sandbox.

Well, it's not match ammo ...

Well, it's not match ammo but I was getting 1-2 inch patterns at 250 yards from a bench rest/bipod during sighting in with my Robinson Armament XCR. Offhand it performed as expected and just as well as anything else. I'll spend my money on it any day.

This is first rate ammo. ...

This is first rate ammo. I use it in my Stag 3G all the time works perfect at all times. It may look like rehashed or factory seconds at times, but it is a no problem ammo. I would not use this at in-door ranges, however, so be aware of that.

Great ammo! It's not ...

Great ammo! It's not match, not match price either. So for the value it cant be beat. I dont run Russian ammo in my AR so this is the best choice for me to punch holes in paper at 100 yards. It will drill through 1/8 inch steel at that range also so beware if using steel plates as targets. Burns clean as any other I've used and no issues with FTF or FTE. No problems with brass in the 50 boxes I've used. Just plain good ammo for the price.

Disappointing accuracy ...

Disappointing accuracy (2" at 25 yds.!) in my S&W MP15 (16" bbl. 1/9)and Armalite upper (20" bbl. 1/9) ... both rifles are very accurate with other 55-62 grain bullets.

My rating is based on very limited shooting (20 rounds ) and cosmetic appearance of this ammo. I have always suspected that Federal "XM" ammo is not first quality because the cases are usually dirty, dented, and scratched. If this is the same quality our service members are using, I would be surprised, and concerned. It functioned fine in my ARs. Also I have fired "XM193" and had good results, though appearances of that ammo is the same. Accuracy is fair to good. At any rate, it is good practice ammo, and the prices make it a good value.

Worked like a charm. No misfires, failure to feeds, or hiccups of any kind. I would definitely buy again. They penetrate a bit farther than standard ball rounds, buy nothing too substantial.
