The best target rifle I own is a Anschutz 2007. shooting from a bench, the best ammo in it seems to be Eley Tenex with consistent .2 to .3 inch, 50 yd 10 shot strings. HOWEVER... this Fed lightning will print .5 to .7 inch strings which is still well inside the 10 ring of a standard 50 yard SB 5 bull target. I suggest you practice often and use this Fed. ammo. It is one tenth the price of the high dollar ammo and almost as good. Frankly, when I'm shooting from 4 positions, the ammo is much more accurate than I am. Get some good stuff (what ever that is in your rifle)for the matches and practice with the Fed. You will tend to shoot more because you can afford to.And if you are a hunter... well, this ammo will shoot better than MOS (minute of squirrel) in about any rifle in good condition.I hope this is useful to you.

I fired 2 bricks of this ammunition through 2 10/22's and 3 pistols and found it to work reliably in the 10/22's with only 3 ftf's and 2 fte's in 850 rounds. The pistols on the other hand failed horribly. First was the Ruger MKIII Hunter (6 7/8in barrel) where it stovepiped every round. I did not make it through a box of 50 before I gave up. The Sig mosquito (5in barrel) with standard velocity (white spring gun failed to cycle at all with high velocity spring installed) experienced 22 fte all were ftl's essentially making it a single shot. I fired 1 box of 50. The S&W 422 with stock spring experienced FTL on over half the rounds in a box of 50 only cycling the slide fully on less than 15 rounds. Accuracy of all rounds fired out of the 10/22 was acceptable .75" at 50 yards with tactical solutions 16.5" barrel. I did not test accuracy with pistols as it would not reliably cycle any of the pistols.

I shoot Bullseye pistol with a HighStandard.This ammo is accurate,and the only problem is the occasional failure to fully eject,leaving the emmpty case caught in the breech.This is more likely a pistol problem than a ammo problem.A drop of gun oil on the top round in the magazine usually solves the situation.Maybe I should clean my gun!

This stuff just didn't feed well in my pistol. It resulted in a trip to a gunsmith, where no problem was found. Other ammo feeds just fine, but not this Federal.

Would not buy these again. Thought they would be okay for the price. Bad quality and constant stove pipes. Switched over to CCI Minimags without cleaning the gun and problem solved.

Am surprised at all the people trying to compare performance of this high velocity Federal to various brands of match ammo which has a much lower velocity. Would personally never consider using this in my high end anschutz's. Obtained acceptable results with my Savage MII with heavy bull barrel. Did have trouble with FTL's and FTE's with my Ruger Mk I and Browning Buckmark. Refuse to even consider trying it in my mint 1924 Colt Woodsman or my 1911 mfg'd Remington Model 12E. For those of us who are semi-auto pistoleers, we have to take into consideration that higher velocity ammo may be just simply too fast for a particular pistol's action because its timing was originally developed to function flawlessly with standard velocity ammo. READ your owner's manual for your particular rifle or pistol to find out what ammo velocity the manufacturer recommends. If it's not listed, then give them a call. Obviously the SR22's action was not built high velocity ammo, which causes its timing to be off thereby resulting in stovepipes, FTLs (primarily) and FTEs. Also, most 22 ammo is going to have periodic flyers and FTFs. It's the nature of the design with primed rims and bullets and flex crimping of bullets, so keep in mind that you might have a few more of these with economy ammo like this Federal than you might with others. Overall, from my experience with several boxes of this Federal I would say that depending on the firearm it's fired through that it's very decent ammo for general target practice not requiring single hole or clover leaf groups or for everyday plinking or even for small varmint hunting. Living on several acres out in the country, from a comforable chair on my back patio I've been using this Federal ammo this fall with great success for thinning out the rabid zombie-like squirrel population in my Pecan trees by shooting it through an old, but in very fine condition, scoped Winchester Model 52. (Disclaimer Notice: My rating of 3 is based solely on the overall accuracy performance I've experienced with this ammo. However, I should disclose that my standards and expectations for accuracy are probably unreasonably high for high velocity econo ammo such as this.)

This is my ammunition of choice shooting a Ruger Mk II pistol with 2-power Leopold scope from rest at 100-yds, routinely getting a 3-1/2" group without flyers with no wind. Fun! Frankly, I don't think more expensive target ammo would do better. I'm amazed that that short barrel groups so well at that range...but it does!
