Some very minor polishing ...

Some very minor polishing required to fit into my Springfield WWII 1911. It kept getting caught up on the back of my trigger. After that, it works and looks great.

I never had a problem with hammer bite with any gov. or commander 1911. However seems to reduce much hammer snag the beaver tail style makes for a larger area to absorb recoil vs the standard many other grip safeties like this one need fitting mainly the paw to trigger bow area preferably at an angle so when the hand is removed from the gun the sear spring can move the trigger off of the grip safety paw they shouldn't catch. If you are overzealous and remove a little too much from under the paw relax don't freak out you can relieve some metal from the contact area by which it contacts the main spring housing to lower it down providing you didn't take way too much of the bottom of the paw. Finish is insignificant when you're satisfied with all modifications just have the whole thing refinished. Because of the less painful recoil this part offers and snag reduction in my opinion it's worth it because it'll drastically enhance the shooting comfort and carry of this gun.

I'm not sure what went wrong. The part I recieved doesn't look like the picture. It's not even close enough to try to fit without going to a machine shop and having them mill off around .200"of material. I own a series 70, and series 80 Colt.This is going back. Will try a genuinue Colt product next time around

Absolutely fantastic! It dropped in my 70 year old U.S. Government model withno problem. There was no fitting needed. I will add that I installed the value line hammer and the competition trigger at the same time. All items dropped in with no fitting.

Had to do some minor fitting which took me a couple hours but an experienced gunsmith could have done it in a few minutes. This is my first 1911 and my first time working on one. Read and studied about it and watched every video I could find and had no problems. Found a video on youtube of somebody installing the same grip safety and what they had to do was exactly what I had to do. If you don't feel comfortable doing it I would suggest you take it to a competent gunsmith.Took my time because I didn't want to scrap a 40 dollar part. Overall was an easy install and looks great on my R1 GI model.

Dropped right in to my Springfield Armory Milspec perfectly with no gaps. Fits just as good if not better than the original grip safety. I also installed the value line hammer and sear. Looks great, works even better. Real quality parts from Wilson Combat.

I purchased this item to stop "hammer bite". I've a large paw and like some, grip high, occasionally allowing the stock spur hammer to pinch the web of my hand. This item is for my late fathers gun, a 1956 Colt 1911. Those who posted on fitment citing Wilson patterned this for a Colt were correct. The angles are spot on and the gap to frame relationship is negligible. This part is as close as you will come to a gunsmith fitted beavertail. If you own a Colt and prefer to retain its stock value by not fitting a grip safety to the frame, this is the part to purchase. I fully expected to need to file slightly on the edges of the trigger bow engagement tab, but as luck would have it, did not require any. Install was straight forward and very well aligned. Function check was spot on, no fitment at all required. The only modifications to the part for me, were cosmetic. The part comes in a blued finish. This "blued" finish is more like a flat black. It would look fine against a modern Parkerized frame, but certainly didn't look like a well worn part of an original 1950's era Colt. Easily remedied... Using a small amount of Mothers Mag Wheel polish, applied by hand on a soft cloth, this once very black beavertail becomes a gray - blue. Intentionally focusing on the edges allows the user "wear" to show, making this part look like it was worn at the same rate as the gun. All this in about 10 minutes with very little effort. Very nice indeed. In summary, both fit and function is spot on. Now it looks spot on as well. Without a doubt, this is a 5 star item for your original Colt 1911!

Minor fitting required on the trigger engagement surface...but due to differences from one pistol to another, it's necessary for it to be manufactured this way. The finish is a perfect match to my matte black 1991A1, and the fit is very good for a drop in part.
