The Fire Control Rest gives the shooter precision and repeatability when sighting-in, developing loads or in competition. Features glass smooth internal mechanisms that allow the front bag to be moved up, down, left or right to adjust to wind shifts or shot placement, stainless steel leveling feet, 5' of downrange adjustment and locking cradle to secure the firearm are some additional features.

There were two things I didn't like about this rest. One: The plastic knobs do not fit very tight. Seems like Caldwell could have made these knobs so they fit without any slack at all. Two: This rest is very difficult to use if you are a left handed shooter. In order to use the course adjustment you have to reach under your rifle with your right hand while looking through your scope to find the target, not impossible but difficult with the fire control lever in the way. If you are a lefty the Caldwell BR is much easier to manage. The cradle adjustment works great! It is very easy to use and stays in place once it has been adjusted. The rest has a nice weight which makes it stable on the bench. If you are only going to buy one rest I think the BR rest is a lot more for less money!

For the money, you can't ...

For the money, you can't beat it. I have used mine since they first came out. I have compared it, to those costing $800 and find it not lacking. I am left handed and the course height adjustment is harder for me to use, but once it is set, the fine adjustments of the toggel stick are more than I need for target shooting. With the rubber feet under the leveling points, there is no movement on a concrete bench. Probably wouldn't move anyway.

The full-length model is ...

The full-length model is garbola, but this one is a pretty good rest. Mine sets up quickly and repeatably. The joystick works fine, and holds it's place, even if you shoot free recoil. I had no problems with stripped threads or looseness. It is good and heavy, and does not walk around on the bench. It's stable. I have shot a bunch of 1's and 0's off this rest with my 6PPC at 100 yds. The addition of leveling feet and knobs was a tremendous improvement for use on concrete top benches. This is an "economy model" rest, so some nicer features like adjustable fore end stop, right side vertical guide bar and lock, and a standard size and type bag support are missing. For the price it is a bargain. Good shooting, my friends!

I had to return the rest ...

I had to return the rest as it broke before I ever shot it. Caldwell quickly replaced broken rest with new one. Replacement rest works excellent! I think this has reduced the size of my shot groups by allowing me to have more consistent weight on the rear bags when shooting.

Bought this to use on a ...

Bought this to use on a prairie dog trip and was simply amazed. The coarse elevation adjustment made for quick and easy adjustments and the joystick control was still solid and smooth after days of use. I wouldn't go without one again!

I have had this rest ...

I have had this rest since they first came out. I am a left handed bench shooter and adjusting the height can be a challenge.At the same time the precision adjustment and consistency from the bench is far superior to the BR Rock that I had before. The joystick is bent and that is a good thing. You can twist it to get the proper location. I have found that if I rest my hand on the bench with the knob in my hand I can hold the crosshairs steady on the target for several seconds.It does the job.

Two things about it I ...

Two things about it I didn't like were where the control arm is connected and it should be threaded and not just a set screw. The regular front bag was fine but the 3 lobe bag for a wide bench rifle was undesirable for me. At about 20lbs. the rest is stable and doesn't move. The rest sets a little high and you will need a rear bag for your rifle to be paralel to your bench. The forend stop adjusts so you can return the rifle to the same place after each shot. The cradle ears pinch the front bag to get the amount of tension you want and allows the rifle recoil straight back. It operates fine and the rifle stays put once you get it where you want it. Plus it's my favorite color, green!
