This lightweight rod is more resilient than steel and will not damage a barrel. Ergonomic handle feels great even after hours of cleaning. Double bearings provide ultra smooth, dependable rotation of the rod as it precisely follows the rifling. If the rod gets stuck in the barrel, the sturdy handle is designed to withstand "reasonable" hammer blows to the back end to get it out without destroying the rod.

I bought my first one around 10 years ago for use in my large bore African rifles. These rifles are expensive and my life depends upon them. Cleaning should not be a potential problem and I've found Tipton rods to be the best available. i've since bought additional rods for handguns and rimfire rifles as well. These are the best in the market place

Up until now, I have been using the Dewey coated cleaning rod. I have always thought of it as an excellent cleaning tool. I still do. However, after receiving the Tipton carbon rod from Midway, I have found something I like much better. The handle’s ergonomics are superior to Dewey. The bearings are the smoothest I have seen. The rod is flexible yet stiff enough to work handily through the nastiest bore. Couple this rod with a Lucas bore guide and you’re in some high caliber cleaning business. Pun intended!

These rods are far superior to the Dewey rods. Most of my Dewey’s have stopped turning freely, forcing me to continually rotate the rod by hand to keep the tip screwed on. The Tipton’s spin easily and follow the rifling well. The sizes in the description (40", 44", etc.) are the length of just the rod, not the handle. A handy feature of the Tipton is that there is a hole in the knob at the base of the handle. This makes it easy to hang the rod from a hook in the ceiling. This places no stress on the rod and leaves no horizontal surface to collect dust. I have had no quality issues with the Tipton’s. The handle is quite heavy, so cradling the rod can be a bit awkward until you get used to it.

In my sixty years of hunting and cleaning rifles/shotguns this is the best cleaning rod I have ever used. I can't begin to count the rods made from aluminum I have lost not to mention the bent stainless steel rods.

This is a GREAT cleaning rod. The quality is better than my Dewey (which I have since replaced with a second Tipton). It is well worth the few extra $$.
