I own a Savage 12fv in .243. These are my favorite bullets so far, producing a group at 100yds that hovers around .3 in. The 58gr bullets are good as well; my gun seems to like these better, though.

Follow up from last review on 4/23/07. This bullet is outstanding and deserves more than 5 stars. Shooting at 3 & 5 hundred yards this last weekend, shooting oranges at three hundred yards is absoulutly no problem and at five hundred it will hold a 2.0" group there was a ligth breeze with temp. in the mid to upper 70's at 50% humidity. Try this bullet for any of you 6mm needs, you won't be sorry. Thanks again Hornady.

Hornady, you've done it again!! Working a load using H322 (towards the high end), thur a Rem 700 SPS 1:91/8 twist, 26", seated on the lands, It is no problem to shoot clover leaf groups with this bullet @ 100yrds. Shot two full water bottles with this bullet this weekend at a 100 yards. WOW, total devastation on each. The bullet blew out the entire back half of ea. 20oz. water bottle (full) in a vertical patteren. I know that know small to mid sized varmints would even begin to walk away from a bullet that preformes as well as this one does. I was impressed! Going to shoot 300, 400 & 500 yards next to see how well they do with the same test. More to come. I would highly recommend this bullet it is very low recoil as well and fun for anyone to shoot! Shot .28" group out of a 27" 1 in 12" twist Lilja barrel, 6mm Remington over R22. Velocity a solid 3750 fps! Can't wait to see what they do to jacks and pdogs!

I've just started reloading for my .243 and I choose the V-Max. I wasn't let down. I got .75 in. groups at 100 yards with my first batch. I'm anxious to try 'em out on some coyotes or crows.

I use the 75gr. V-Max in a varmint barreled model 788 Rem. in 6mm Rem. caliber for groundhog hunting. I had no idea they had such a following until I read the reviews. They are as good as it gets. They shoot accurately and expand violently on impact. I would not recommend their use on deer-sized game. It is true, if the shot placement hits rib only before entering the vitals, it would be a sure kill. However, I don't think they would make it through a shoulder and if a bone is struck, forget it. All of Hornady's "MAX" bullets that I have loaded have performed well.

The V-Max are hands down the best I have tried through my .223 and .243 for hunting deer and varmints. Great expansion and very accurate. I have shot sub MOA groups with all the bullet weights I have tried.

These 75 grain v-max's are simply the best out there if you are a varmint hunter. I have put several hundred of these through my 12FV Savage in .243, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Recently I used these bullets to take a couple groundhogs in the 480+ range, lethality was off the hook. Bang flop....DRT...call it what ya want, these baby's are deadly. No need to try anything else guys, this is THE bullet.

I have used V-Max bullets in my .22 caliber (.223 and .22-250 Rem.) rifles for some time but, I had not used any in my .243 Winchesters. Given my entirely positive experiences with the .22 caliber V-Maxes, I ordered two boxes of 75-grainers, to load for my Ruger KM77VT MKII, for a prairie dog hunt, from which I just returned last week. While I did not have a chance to check the load on paper or chronograph it, I was very happy with the performance. The terminal performance is outstanding (lots of acrobatic, dead prairie dogs) and accuracy has to be exceptional, considering I was making consistent hits at the 300+ yard mark. Also, despite contending with 10-20 m.p.h. winds, little to no "hold" was necessary, at these ranges. I was saddened when I ran out of ammo for this load/rifle. I still have a box each of 58- and 65-grain V-Maxes to try out and, now, I have to order some more 75-grainers, to see how they perform on paper. I would highly recommend them to anyone searching for a good varmint bullet. I am considering shooting up all of my other varmint bullets and shooting just V-Maxes, in all of my varmint rifles. They are that good! I will submit another review, once I have the chance to wring them out on paper. Happy shooting!

I recently put these bullets to a serious test during a 2-day Colorado prairie dog hunt. I have used the .22 cal counterpart to these bullets in my Remington 700 VSF in .22-250. I chose the .243 diameter bullets for a custom built, 6mm Remington built on a Remington 700 action w/ a Krieger, stainless steel heavy barrel: a gun I had built specifically for long-range prairie dog hunting. As expected, the 6mm V-Max loads were devastating, leaving many prairie dogs that made the mistake of popping up at close range in more than one piece. As for the long- range shots, the accuracy was spot on, allowing me and the other 3 hunters (all shooting V-Maxes in various calibers, as well) to make shots out past 600 yards. The trials I did on paper yielded .4-.7" 5-shot groups, but the field results were far more spectacular when you see these bullets in action - dog-busting, long-range lethality in a highly frangible package. Oh, that's another great feature is that these bullets: they disintegrate rapidly after hitting the ground, preventing misses from becoming a serious ricochet threat. This is very important when hunting in the vicinity of cattle or other livestock.

Have used these bullets in 243 WSSM. I've achieved 5/16" groups with 4064 at about 3350 fps from Browning A-Bolt. Very effective varmint round. Will take anything up to coyote with no problem, however if your hunting for pelts may cause excessive damage to hides. Never disappointed in Hornady!!! Great bullet.

Hornady V-max bullets are the best varmint bullets made, I think. I get 2 inch groups at 200 yrds out of my old Savage 110 sporter. With H414, Win. brass, and WLR primers, it is a winning combination for me. And this bullet bucks the wind well and holds it's velocity way out there. Excellent bullet for varmints in a 243.

I shoot these bullets out of a Remington M700 Heavy barrel 6mm Rem. and get 5 shot groups never exceding 1/2"@100 yds. Most folks say that this class of bullet is too light for deer sized game but if you can hit where your aiming they are AWSOME all vitals are pulverized upon impact. You will not get exit holes but who need em when the critters just fall over.Everyone has their favorites and these are among my top picks, from varmints to antelope,deer and pigs these bullets have never let me or my friends who shoot my loads down.

These are very uniform and accurate bullets. I shot them in a Rem 700 VLS in 243 and 6mm Rem. I can get groups the size of a pencil eraser out of both guns with them. I have taken ground hogs and coyotes and even crows with them out to 350 yards. They have always done there job in close and at long range. The best powder for me has been IMR 4064 at a velocity of 3300 in my 243 and in my 6mm Re 19 at a velocity of 3300. Great bullet.

First trip to the range with my new Rem 700VL in .243 turned out 3/8" group @100yds with these bullets and 45.0 gr's of IMR 4350. Awesome accuracy! Can't wait to try it out on the coyote population.

Wow! Fantastic accuracy, excellent performance, very consistent at both. A 75g V-Max and a .243 Win. is pure coyote poison! I have NEVER had a coyote run away from this bullet. If you will do your job, the 75g V-Max will do its. Very accurate, and predictable perfomace seem to be the calling card of this bullet. I have never had one that over-penetrated, very important when hunting around cattle. Expands reliably at even low, long-range velocities. Expansion is violent, to say the least! Laser accurate, and rattlesnake deadly. This bullet folds coyotes up like cheap billfolds....every time.

Great bullet in my 6mm Rem. Just over 3400 with IMR 4064. Super accurate, buck the wind well, and very devastating on everything up to coyotes. Only mark against it is the price, almost twice as much as the 75 Hollow Point! I'll pay the price only because it is the best Varmint bullet on the planet.
