RCBS Uniflow Powder Measure with Standard Cylinder

Having bought my measure in the mid 80s, I have both the large and small drums for my Uniflow. I usually use the small drum for pistol and the large drum for rifle. However, I've found that even the large drum consistently and accurately measures charges even for my 9mm pistol. I'm considering getting the micrometer option for faster reset ability, but as is, it's easy to set and exceptionally accurate. I find the measure works very well for all types of powder (ball, flake, stick, etc).

Got to admit, I've owned the Hornady, Lee's out the wazoo, Lyman and for consistent throws, the RCBS is the best measure, no doubt. I've always hated their dies, but this powder measure is the best I've ever used.

I purchased my current Uniflow in the late 70s and it came with both drums. I have used it extensively since then. I have never had to replace any parts and have found it to be accurate, especially with pistol powders. In the early 90s, I competed in Hi-Power competition and all of my loads were charged using the Uniflow with IMR 4064. For the last 12 years, I have competed in Police Pistol Combat and use the Uniflow mounted on a Piggyback for .38 SPCL and 9mm ammo using Win 231. The only maintenance I do is to remove the drum and wipe away powder residue every year or two. It is very durable, like other RCBS tools, and will last a lifetime. As in another review, I double bump the handle when using cylindrical "stick" powders for the best consistency.

I have three and am very happy with them. I have done extensive testing with all the powders I use and am pleased with the resuls. Charges of fine powders like 6.5gr HS6 throw perfect every time and that's with the large cylinder. I don't even bother with the small cylinder at the bench, although I do use it in my pro 2000 just because I never load over 40 gr. on it. In response to the above review about H322, mine, even with the large cylinder (I have not seen any difference between cylinders even with small charges)throws + or - .1gr all day. Same with varget, a much longer stick powder. H355 will go back and forth between 35.4 and 35.5 all day, but no more. Large flakes like 800x go + or - .2gr. If you get large variation of charge wt, you probably need to clean and degrease it as is mandatory before use.

I've used Hornady, Lee, Frankford Arsenal, Dillon, Lyman 55(the worst of the group!)and RCBS Uniflow. There are now 2 RCBS Uniflow's on my reloading bench as they blow away all of the above by far in consistently delivering accurate charges reliably, whether it be the 1st drop or the 500th drop without constantly re-adjusting them like all the others mentioned above. I'll never mess with any other powder measure besides the Uniflow. Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

This powder measure is very consistant at throwing uniform powder charges. I have used the Lyman #55, and an old drum type measure of my fathers that i have no idea who made it. Compared to the above measures, the uniflow is the hands down winner. I like my measure elevated,so i mounted mine on the powder measure stand. The fit of the drums in the body of the measure, makes cutting coarse grain extruded powders an easy task. I can normally throw charges whithin plus or minus .02 of a grain of the desired charge. I have never thrown charges of more than 85 grains, so i can not comment on the accuracy of this measure above that. I have learned several things that help me to throw consistant charges. First is a steady rhythm. Try to be as consistant as possible when operating the measure. Second is the powder baffle. When using long grain extruded powders, i have found that i throw more consistant charges when the baffle is used. When using ball type powders i have noticed no discernable diffrence in the variance of the charges thrown. I have also learned that when i keep the powder level in the hopper, at least 2 inches above the baffle, i throw more consistant charges. This is related to the use of long grain extruded powders. The only complaint i have with this measure is the lid. It fits in the hopper so tight, that after use, it will crack the hopper.I did have a problem with this measure when trying to throw a 2 grain charge of Winchester 231. I called RCBS to order the smaller drum for the measure, and was prepared to pay for it. To my surprise the customer service rep said the part would be shipped to me at no cost. I have always owned RCBS equiptment, and after this kind of service, i will use RCBS equiptment exclusively! Great powder measure, extraordinary company!!!!

Great product. RCBS is simply a great company. However, I do have one small gripe with their powder measure. There are two powder drums for it and they only give you the rifle drum with the measure. They don't say so, but they do (and neither does Midway). If you do a lot of pistol shooting, you probably will want the smaller powder drum. It is confusing because in the past, RCBS offered the powder measure in a "kit" that included both drums. But in the photograph provided by Midway you only see one powder drum. So, be aware of this before you spend your hard earned cash for this measure. Furthermore, unlike a lot of other people who state "I called RCBS and they gave me what I needed. . .," with the extra powder drum they don't. I had to fight them and even threaten to return the measure before they gave in. I never with any other powder measure had to buy "extra" parts to shoot pistol loads. With this measure, you may have to.

I'm on my second one. Lost the first in a fire but was so impressed by it's durability and performance that I replaced it in kind. It's built like a rock and can handle the bumps and thumps it gets on my bench. I use it mostly for flake powders (Unique, Universal, etc.) and find it to be very consistent.

This Product is very good.I have used it for years. It is very reliable.It is also very accurate.

I've had my Uniflow since the mid 70's and it's still good as new. I've tried some other measures that friends own and most won't meter extruded powder as accurately as the Uniflow. It very rarely bridges up dumping large charges of extruded powder, and this problem continuously plagues many cheaper measures. This measure will easily last a lifetime. As the above previous reviews stated, be sure to go ahead and get both drums for it. The gentleman in the first review needs to get the large drum from RCBS. The small (or pistol) drum is good for up to around 60 gr. Also go ahead and get the powder baffle that's made for the Uniflow (or make one from a piece of plastic milk jug). The baffle greatly increases the charge weight consistency as the amount of powder in the hopper goes down as you load. As good as the Uniflow is, like any powder measure, it's important that you develope a consistent rhythm that you use each time you throw a charge, for maximum accuracy. I give the handle a double bump at each end of the stroke, and that settles the powder plus helps to keep extruded powders from bridging. I use this measure for everything from throwing just a very few grains of Bullseye for .38 Spl target loads all the way up to massive charges (above 100 gr) for the .30-378 Wby and .416 Rigby.

As a follow-up to the post about two drums, I recently ordered the RCBS Master kit, which includes the Uniflow measure. I called RCBS and they are sending me the smaller drum at no charge and with no hassle so I give them a gold star for support.

I use this to measure 3.5 grs. of Clays, which is a flake powder, for .40 S&W. I think I have the rifle drum. 3.5 grs. seems to be the lower limit for this drum. I will see if RCBS will send me the pistol drum. However, 3.5 grs. does measure consistently each throw which is very important for a high pressure load. I recommend this Powder Measure.

I believe that this is the best powder thrower available, very well made with no flaws. My loads are always +- .01 grains as long as I rotate the handle consistently. I did buy the powder baffle with the thrower, so I don't know if it will work as well without it.

Just bought one of these used at a gun show, and can't praise it enough. I was concerned, since the fit between the body casting and the drum seemed a little loose, but I worried for nothing. Not even Ramshot Enforcer powder will leak around that drum (unlike my Lee Perfect Powder Measure, which leaks brand new). Once I got it dialed in, it threw consistent charges with no need to adjust. If a used RCBS Uniflow is this good, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new one. Typical RCBS quality.

Got one of these used, in a package deal. I like it better than the old Lyman I'd been using, because it's more consistent. RCBS honored their lifetime guarantee without question, by sending me replacements for worn parts. The drum in mine won't throw heavy charges of extruded powder (60+ grains), but I just set it to half of what I need and throw it twice. Very durable, easy to maintain.

I have used this powder measure for almost 20 years now and found it to throw chares that are more consistent than any other powder measure. Sure you can buy a lee or any other makers, We all have our own favorites, But from many I have tried this one beats them all hands down. I reload both pistol and rifle, Flake, ball and stick type powders. I have measured them all and often to see if this measure started to go bad. All loads are the same from day one until now. You have to keep your equipment clean and all mounting screws tight and don't forget the adjustment screw, If you don't keep that tight you can wind up having the screw loosen on you and get a overload, so keep an eye out for that and you'll be just fine. As far as customer service goes, They stand behind what they sell and I would not hesitate to buy any of their products. Happy Hunting and Good Shooting.

I think this measure is great but you must change your dispensing technique depending on the powder you use to get consistent results. For my .357 load I use H110 and it flows so as long as all of your strokes are the same, all charges will weigh the same. However, if you use a powder like Varget, the only way that I have been able to get consistent charges is if at the bottom of the stroke I'll double tap it to allow the powder to settle. If I don't do this my charges will be off by almost .5gr at times. I think someone else here made a reference to doing this and I thank them for it. I installed a powder baffle and micrometer screw and I have to say that it is even better if you spend the extra money on these parts. Instead of dealing with that screw that came with it from factory, just dial in the number of the measurement you need and you'll be within .2gr of where you need to be.

I've had one of these for about 25yrs, and it still works better than Dillons or Lee's or Redding. Very consistant. In case you don't know, Dillon sells a linkage setup so it can be mounted on their 550 and 650 presses and makes it automatic. This setup works great.

Well desgined and made. Much better than the Lyman 55 which this unit replaced. I am pleased that once the charge is set using the set screw and locked, it stays set! After loading several hundred rounds with various powders, there was 0 to .1 grain variance when I checked every 10th charge. It is much more consistant and smoother than the Lyman, which is my only other frame of reference. I also got the micro stem insert and baffle. The standard powder measuring screw works fine and I have not noticed any increase in accuracy with the micro stem although it does help in quickly dialing in a previous load.

I have had and used this measure for over 10 years and have found it to be consistently accurate, easy to adjust and very durable. Mine came with both the large cylinder and the small one, but I found changing these out between pistol loads and rifle loads to be annoying. As a result , I bought a second one and keep it set up for large rifle loads. I have loaded up to .375 H+H with it. The small cylinder has enough capacity to load any pistol cartridge and many of the smaller rifle cartridges, like .223. Overall an excellent and accurate product.

I own this and a Lee. This measure works just fine. If you're an RCBS fan, you'll love it. It's green, weighs a lot and "feels" heavy duty. But it does not work any better than the Lee, and in fact, the Lee has several features I like better. (The hopper detaches, the lever is shorter so it's quicker to work, and there are graduations on the screw). The Lee is one less than 1/3rd the price AND you have to pay $20 extra for the stand for the RCBS! It comes with the Lee. I have owned the Lee for about 15 years and the RCBS for about 2. We'll see which one lasts longer- but I seriously doubt the RCBS will outlast the Lee- especially by 3 or 4 times!

For measuring ball powder, this measure has no equal. It is outstanding. For measuring stick powders it is not all that great. I bought this measure because my Lee measure would leak with ball powders. For that use the RCBS measure works great. But for powders such as IMR 4064, 3031, etc, the RCBS cuts the powder, and binds, etc. The Lee is actually much better for stick powders. Just seems to me that as expensive as this measure is, it should work fine with all kinds of powder.

Throws very inconsistent charges with IMR 4831. Also leaks with this powder occasionally. The dispenser will bind and cut stick powder like IMR 4831. It would probably work much better with a finer powder.

Do Not Buy! This is such an inconsistent powder measure. Variances of over .1 grain every other throw. Buy a Redding or buy a Lee - at least you will get what you pay for.
