RCBS Model 505 Magnetic Powder Scale 511 Grain Capacity

Extremely accurate and easy to use. I was going to buy an electronic digital scale, but am glad I opted for the beam scale. You can't beat it for the price.

I have had my 5-0-5 scale for several years, and it has always performed perfectly for me. It is easy to set up and use. Its consistency and accuracy are excellent. I periodically check the accuracy of the scale with check weights approximately matching powder charges of interest, and the 5-0-5 scale has always matched, to within 0.1 grain, every check-weight combination I’ve used if I make sure the scale is sitting on a surface that is level in all directions. Follow the instructions from RCBS regarding care and cleaning of the scale, particularly the pivots and bearings, and it should provide years of reliable and accurate service.

All the scale you would ever need for shotshell reloading. Fast and easy to operate. Zeroes in seconds and stays zeroed until you move it somewhere else. Well made. I have compared this one to cheapo models, and digital scales. I prefer the 505 and use it exclusively for the last two years while my cheap Lyman scale and digital scale gather dust. Buy the cover for it too.

I've had one of these for many years. Every loading bench should have one of these. The best rating criteria that I can come up with is that when you read about digital powder measures and dispensers rating here at Midway, they all mention that they would check the accuracy of the scales with a 5-0-5. They, like myself, believe the beam scale as the most accurate mesurement of weight that we can get.

The 505 is very accurate and easy to use. Keep an eye on the leveling foot, on occasion I have found that it can drift. The beam settles very fast and setting the grains is easy and quick. RCBS quality. You can't go wrong with this scale.

Great little scale. Very accurate. I don't know how you could do any better unless you went to a digital scale.

Outstanding scale. It blows my old lee scale away. It really settles quickly and is very easy to read precisely.

Consistant and easy to read. One of the best features is it is also easy to zero. My scale gets moved frequently to different locations on my bench and it is a snap to re-zero and use.

The base is nice and heavy, but that is its best feature. I thought it was difficult to tell if you were close to being balanced or 0.1 grain high or low. All the conditions, -0.1, 0, and +0.1 are very close on the scale. The Redding #2 is a much better scale, you could very easily tell if you were 0.1 grain too high or too low. On the Redding, you could even tell if you were 0.05 grains too high or low. The Redding #2 was much better.

I am disappointed that the overall quality of this scale seems to have declined over the years. My current scale replaces one I had used for many years that I lost in Katrina. Lighter weight cast base than I remember. The leveling foot is immovable, and made of thin plastic. It should move easily. I'm afraid I will break it. I had to use shims to level the scale, since the leveling foot would not turn. RCBS is a great company, and I am sure they will honor their warranty. This scale must have slipped by the quality control check before it left the Ohaus factory. The Model 1010 would have probably been a better choice. It has the fine screw adjustment the old 505 used to have.

I got this scale in a Rock chucker Kit. It jumps off with any vibration and it never stays zeroed. I do not recommend it. However if you can deal with those problems, then you can use this scale, because it is accurate.

Maybe I just got a lemon, but honestly it seemed like junk. I would weigh out a charge bring it up to zero, then I would Re-weigh to double check, & it was always different, never the same would weigh for instance a 10 grain charge, take the little weigh pan off, the place it on the scale again, & it would be 2 grains high or low, every time, no matter what the weight. Anyways, I sold it & bought the RCBS 10-10 model, & its a world of difference, the 10-10 is on every time, haven't looked back since!

Used one of these scales for years. First one I had I suspected it got damaged by a grandson so to be on the safe side I replaced it. Since I've been using the replacement (6yrs) I have experienced cycling problems when loading for auto pistols. Recently purchased a Lee scale for my son, I've read where they are so accurate and dependable. I thought I'd try it out and compare it to the 505 I use. The 505 weighed everything 1 gr. heavier than it is. I confirmed this with borrowed check weights. No wonder my auto's have had feeding and ejection problems. For example, when I thought I was loading 6gr's of W231, was loading only 5gr's. The 505 went in the trash can immediately. My third scale will be the Lee "Safety" scale.

This scale is very inaccurate, and will not hold zero. You can put a charge in the scale and weight it, take the pan off and put it back on and be +/- .3 grains. Very frustrating and given the nature of the sport, potentially dangerous?
