Approved for the John C. Garand matches. Does not include any metal parts however it does include the handguard. The barrel and action channels may required additional sanding.

Received my stock and it is absolutely wonderful. Fit and finish are great and after a few coats of finishing oil the Garand looks presentation perfect. The grain of the wood was nicer than expected for a standard stock. It borders on a fancy grain. Thank you very much.

My stock came VERY dry, have some Linseed oil ready and all will be well. Receiver, barrel and trigger assembly dropped in perfect and trigger guard closed great. Lower buttplate hole was way off, simply drill from the butt an oversized hole larger and this will correct it. Metal handguard pieces were a bear to get on as the stock is quite beefy in compared to that what Springfield made. That is expected as you are putting on 60 year old parts on a new stock. Expect to play and modify lightly a bit...all in all..when said and done if you have that M1 you take to the range this is a high quality stock and she fits very tight and the bedding is perfect when completed. You won't find anything better to fit your shooter.

Nicely finished. Nevertheless, I applied a couple more coats of oil. With this stock, my CMP rifle looks brand new. It fits my M1 perfectly although had to file about a paper-thickness of wood from the flats where the steel trigger-gurad floorplate mated against the stock. Be careful you don't take off too much wood, though -- you want the trigger-gurad to be a bit stiff to latch. My groups are half the size they were with the old stock. My one complaint is that the lower buttplate screw is a bit off center.

Dear Garanders back in Sept.06 I wrote a review on the Boyd (Big B) Garand stock. Somewhere in the translation my figures included some zeros. Please allow me to correct that. Example: Gas piston should "mike" .525,(not.0525) In all instances, please remove the zero and insert the decimal point. I humbly apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced. It is still 19 inches on the recoil spring. (a good one) On my front hand guard, gas cylinder, clearance, I still say maintain a min. of ,005 clearance. Actually mine is a little closer to .010. On your gas piston outside diameter and the INSIDE diameter of your gas cylinder, it should not exceed .005 MAX. Please be advised, I have not ever been authorized to speak for Boyd or Midway USA. The opinions expressed here are mine and mine alone. On both counts, I appreciate quality and service. Good Shooting!

This is the most attractive military stock I own. I spent a pleasant evening applying a few light coats of boiled linseed oil and the next evening switched the metal to the new stock. Everything went together without a hitch. The only minor issue was the lower buttplate screw hole was slightly off-center. No problem, it all went together just fine and looks wonderful. I plan to buy another stock as a spare.

I found this stock was very well made and tight on its inletting. I was replacing a tired 1952 era stock and the new one is about the same size. All three pieces had the same color and finish. A nice buy!

I really like these stocks, particularly for the price; $80 is cheap for stocks of this quality. I steel wooled them down and put several coats of True Oil on them and it produced one really eye-pleasing rifle when it was done. Inletting was excellent, didn't have to fool with tweaking the inletting or bedding anything; just put it together with a set of Wolfe springs, NM sights and a Criterion barrel and was shooting one inch, 100 yard groups right off the bat.

Great product. All parts fit perfectly without any shimming or wood removal. Trigger guard was very difficult to close just the way it should be. Front handguard is nice and tight. No rattles anywhere. Wood appeared to be a little dry but Linseed oil fixed that. The color is a dark true walnut color. It is not reddish walnut like Springfield used on the original stocks. All three parts are the same color.

What a bargain! I, like many others, had to sand the stock for the receiver to fix and operating rod to move freely, but it took me all of 15 minutes of sanding and I was a very happy man!

Received an M1 from CMP with a birch stock, just didn’t look right. I ordered the Boyds walnut. Had to take some wood of the trigger lock up and where the op rod rubbed on the stock. Other than that an excellent product.

It came slightly rough, what I imagine the original USGI Garand stocks were like when issued. Fit was perfect. 10 minutes of sanding with 600 grit paper and I have a beautiful, well made stock. I'm very happy with it.

I damaged my original stock for my M1 and began searching for a replacement that would compliment my rifle. I looked on MidwayUSA and found this Boyd's stock and decided to try it based on the reviews. I'm glad I did! This stock is beautiful. I think it's better than what most people said. Most had trigger plate fitment issues. I think Boyd's fixed them somehow because mine simply dropped in! No modifying necessary on this one. Snug receiver placement in the stock and the trigger plate had positive pressure on the latch. I love it!

My stock is very plain and ordinary looking which in my opinion is how an old military stock should be. It looks great and the fit is very tight. Trigger group lock-up is also very tight. I may decide to sand away a little in that area. I would not hesitate to purchase another one.

Having read the reviews, I was a bit hesitant but ordered anyway. I got a stock set that matches very well in color and grain. A careful match up with a "veteran" set revealed identical machining and inletting, although - as advertised - the stock is beefier than the original it replaced (post-Korea size). Everything fit snugly; it looks and feels good. Looking forward to finding out how it shoots.

After reading the mixed reviews I decided to take a chance on the Boyd stock. The wood was excellent, no dings, nice oil finish, nice grain. My stock was slightly oversized (as advertised) --- if you are a purist maybe this would be a problem. As others have mentioned, I did have to file/sand/fit/refinish the cut for the trigger assembly so it would latch. This was a 15-minute job and made for a nice tight lockup. My M1 looks great with the new stock.

Overall, a very respectable replacement stock for the M1. The butt area is a little large but the finished assembly feels pretty good. I, too, had to file the wood under the magazine well cover as the trigger assembly would not lock into place. It took me longer to figure out just what needed to be modified and filed than the actual filing/refinishing itself. The trigger group now locks in place securely without excessive force. It was also a bit tricky getting the front handguard spacer tabs bent over to lock the ferrule in place. The wood is of excellent quality and the oiled finish looks great.

Have bought Boyd’s stocks before, they offer a good product at a reasonable price. The Garand Stock was no different after a little fitting the action is now snug and with a new barrel made by Criterion shoots way better than I ever expected. Only thing I did was relieve the stock under mid-section of receiver and glass bedded a little where receiver slides thru stock to keep receiver from being able to move back and forth.

The fit was perfect--no trimming or sanding required at all. However, I must deduct a star because my front handguard is considerably lighter in shade than my stock or rear handguard, which are nearly identical in color. I guess I need to find a suitable oil or stain to darken up the front handguard wood. Other than this cosmetic gripe, I've found the set to be a perfect product.

I purchased the entire stock set and it was delivered quickly. All three pieces were made from a nice piece of American walnut, and the pieces matched well. The overall finish appeared a bit dry, but that was easily remedied by rubbing in a little boiled linseed oil. All the pieces fit well and there was no additional fitting or trimming required to reassemble the rifle. The only problem I experienced was cracking the front handguard in two. It split VERY easily, and I currently have a replacement ordered. Be very careful with the front handguard until the front handguard spacer is reinstalled. Overall an excellent, good looking product that was easily installed.

Bought one this summer. Found out the dimensions were noticeably off compared to the USGI stocks. The rear of the buttstock was too large to meld with the floorplate, the lower sling swivel area wasn't routed out sufficiently. The op rod wouldn't retract without significant sanding work to remove a lot of material to make it work, the receiver area needed a lot of sanding in order to seat the trigger group, and the forend was too "fat" and resulted in a significant ledge that impacted the front sling swivel. With all the computer controlled machinery these days I don't know why Boyds can't adjust their pattern to account for these mistakes. Otherwise the wood is nice walnut, so if you want a "project" stock get one of these, or find a nice USGI stock and refinish it.

I don't have any idea what has happened, but Boyd's quality control has gone to H*ll in a handbasket. I have bought about ten of these stock sets over the years and this was the first one that required me to use files and chisels to get the action into the stock. This was NOT a "drop-in-fit" stock. Wood was not removed from crucial areas and I STILL have to inlet the rear trigger guard area to allow it to fit in the stock. These stocks are now almost not worth the effort.

Have used Boyd’s before with good luck, ordered this M1-garand stock set and received a stock that was dimensionally incorrect. Trigger guard well was .50"k off and pistol grip area was cut off 3/8th inch short. When action was installed trigger housing would not even come close to locking up. Upon looking, deck height was some .75k oversized.
