Very intuitive and easy to use. I used it without reading the instruction sheet, but then went back to make sure I hadn't missed any features. I hadn't. It's fairly straight forward with a simple user interface. Unlike some devices where features are hidden and require "hold the mode button and press the clear button to access the such-n-such feature", the Lyman Electronic Digital Trigger Pull Gauge had a dedicated button for each function. Press READY to turn it on. Place the hook on the trigger at the finger position. Press READY again to start the measurement. Pull the gauge backward until the trigger drops. The gauge detects trigger activation and displays the force (12 pounds max). At any time, the average of the trigger pulls, up to the last ten, can be displayed by pressing AVG. To start a new string of trigger pulls press CLR. The 9V battery was not included, and it was a bit difficult to get into the battery compartment and close the lid. There is a place for a spare battery in the nice little black nylon case that holds the trigger pull gauge, the trigger hook (unscrewed from the gauge), and the folded instruction sheet. I had no way to calibrate the gauge, but the trigger pull on my Glock G20 was supposed to be 5 pounds and it always pulled between 4.5 and 5.5 pounds, and I think most of that variation was my technique. That's why the average feature is nice. Snap off ten trigger pulls and display the average, and the noisy data is averaged to a single good value. It's nice to have real trigger pull numbers for comparison, instead of telling people, "It felt like at least eight pounds." Now I can say, "It averaged 8 pounds, 4.3 ounces." The trigger pull gauge has a very nice solid feel with some real heft to it. It feels like a solid, quality tool, and that's difficult to gauge from a catalog description.

I just received this item today (1 day early actually) and It works wonderfully. My only issue is that the battery connector is a bit too large for the hole, and is a pain to get into place. I am thinking it is only on this particular one, and not a consistent issue. Other than that this the product is really easy to use, apparently accurate and very handy!.

This is a really nice quality piece of equipment that should last you a really long time. Easy to use, and very useful in both dialing in your trigger pull, you can also use it to gauge your extractor tension on 1911 pistols by using the Weigand Extractor Tension Gage. Heads up that it takes the somewhat rare 9 volt battery which is not included. I don't normally keep those around the house anymore! A word about the storage case: at first I thought it was a bit oversized and doubted if I'd be using it, but once I started checking it out, I started to see that someone had put quite a bit of thought into its design and features. The straps that hold the gauge and trigger rod are all little Velcro tabs. There's a pouch for the instruction sheet, and even a small 9 volt battery pouch which secures a battery with a snapping tab. The cases' closing zipper has a heavy-duty nylon grab-strap on it. The Lyman Electronic Digital Trigger Pull Gage is easy to learn and operate, and you'll have your technique down after the first day. The display is also large and easy to read, with a "ready" beep signal when the scale is set to measure.

Outstanding product! It is completely "stupid proof"; easy to use. Averaging feature provides an accurate picture of trigger pull. Care must be taken when getting readings as the gauge is very sensitive and shock form over-travels well as trigger rod placement, will affect readings. I got readings ranging from 3 lbs/ 9 oz to 4 lbs/ 11 oz on a Savage 93R17. This was the result of operator malfunction. When I re-tested, paying close attention to trigger rod placement and over-travel, the readings were 3 lbs/ 9 oz to 3 lbs 12 oz. I don't believe a more accurate gauge exists. The case is well designed, protects the instrument well, and has places for everything, including the battery. when it arrived, I did have to go out and get the required 9v battery; I should have paid better attention to the product description and I would have known this. The only improvement would be to have this instrument operate on AA batteries, who uses 9v anymore? Whether you're a gunsmith, armorer, or hobbiest, this tool belongs in every shop and kit-bag.

Works perfectly. Accurate, repeatable measurements. Without a good gauge, one is only guessing. Used on Jewell two stage trigger. Just what I needed.

Finally, after all these years, I moved into modern times. This trigger pull gage did the trick. I recommend reading the instructions completely BEFORE use. It is accurate and a pleasure to use. Keep in mind, it is rather delicate. It isn't what you use when you work on the railroad. Prior to retirement, I was a Certified Police Armorer. I served many years in that capacity. Eleven to be exact. When I examined a firearm and it always included trigger pull weight. My report and I could end up before a jury, it could also be put into an Officer's personnel file or into Department records. Such as our annual weapons inspections. No place for guess work or error. I still have two trigger pull devices from the old days, Lord, I wish I had this at that time! As inexpensive as these babies are, I think our good friends at MidwayUSA are just charging shipping and handling. (I do not speak for MidwayUSA.) One day when you are just hanging out, take this to the range with you. Don't take a lot of ammo, you won't need it. When the good folks see you in action and your expert use, you'll be checking more trigger pulls than you can shake a stick at. Me, I take this Lyman gage, my chronograph, and top end Laserlyte bore sighter and special target. MidwayUSA has all these items. If you can find a better price, I'm not aware of it. The Laserlyte I use is in the $150. range and worth every penny. Since you will be with some of the finest people on planet earth, why not enjoy!!! Good hunting and shooting!

Overall a great product. It is not complex and is easy to use. Care must be taken to keep the gauge consistently in line with the bore and pressure straight back or the differing angles will alter your results some but if you are careful to use it properly it will give you consistent accurate readings.

I did not have a scale to start with, so comparing this scale to another, I cannot do. However being my first scale, there will be no others. This scale is great, easy to read the display, automatically turns off, and almost fool proof. The scale is sensitive enough that if you don't watch your pull angle or over pull after the sear releases, you will have an off reading. The case that the scale comes with is very good and provides more than enough protection for the scale. Makes adjusting any trigger weight something that you can be asure of, without guessing.

I have used both RCBS models as well as an NRA approved scale set for setting triggers now for over 10 years. This gauge by Lyman is by far the best of any I have tried. After comparing the Lyman to the weighted NRA model. The weights recorded by both scales are identical. The big difference is with the NRA set it takes you 3-4 minutes to get an accurate measurement while fumbling with the specific weights, making sure the rifle is aligned properly, etc. With the Lyman, it is INSTANT!! No more guessing or hoping you're doing it right. It's darn near foolproof. The averages button is a great feature, the automatic shutoff is a great feature as well. I can't say enough good things about this thing (Unless they want to start paying me for my testimony!!) Buy one now....You wont be disappointed.

This is a GREAT tool! I can tune my trigger pull to just over 4.5 pounds and be certain that it will pass Service Rifle meet inspection. Makes it easy to determine how much improvement has been made while performing a trigger job. Have also used it to sort out magazine feeding problems. The unit that was delivered to me was different, and better, than the one pictured on the Midway web site. The trigger rod is threaded so it can be rotated and removed. Also came with a really nice storage case - Velcro straps to secure the components and a compartment for a spare battery.

Just received today but it is even better than expected. I had (have an RCBS spring scale) that only went to 72 oz and was always unsure of accuracy. I learned a long time ago to buy the best tools available but sometimes you have to wait until they are available.

This unit is extremely easy to use. The readings I obtained were consistent and seemed accurate though I have nothing to directly compare with, just my own experience. The average feature is okay though I find I don't use it very often. The auto off feature is very nice, what with senility starting to creep my way. I am able to make an adjustment and quickly test it, investing most of my time on the trigger job and not the testing tool. It was more money than I wanted to spend but I'm glad I did (My wife talked me into getting it. I have a GREAT wife, eh?). A real time saver, easy to setup and use, it's flexible, the auto-off feature is great, ergonomics are fine, it makes the job more fun, I love it.

This trigger pull gage is the cat's meeeooowwww. I have never owned such an easy gage to measure trigger pull weight. I compared its reading at the grocery store (self service) checkout. I placed a few items in a plastic bag, hung it from the hook, and took a reading. When I compared it to the weight on the stores scale it was right on. This gage also will work to weight handguns, rifles and shotguns, or anything else under 12 lbs. Comes in a nice zippered pouch that stores the unit. It even has a battery holder for the 9V battery that will remind you to take it out between uses. Forget all of those weights and wire hooks of the past that take forever. Thanks for the quality tool....MIDWAY.

Very nice tool. I would have given it a 5 star but will go for a 4 instead. I'm using it to check triggers set at 2-3 oz. for competition rifles and it's so sensitive that you have to have a very steady hand to get it consistent at such low readings. But with that said I still highly recommend it. Note that the average feature helps work with the lower readings so that helps.

Mine was great, until it broke the second time I tried it. The wires that connect the battery seem to have gotten loose. I wish Lyman had put a fixed battery connector instead of a cheap connector-on-wires that break too easily. I will send it back. Haven't decided whether I want a refund or a new one. Everyone else seems to love it, and I want to too. There doesn't seem to be any competition. Maybe I'll give it one more chance.
