This product can be VERY HELPFUL if used properly in cleaning SHOTGUNS - especially when rifled slugs/buckshot/etc. loads are used and lead fouling ensues. Start with two or three cycles of wet patch/bristle brush/wet patch with any regular solvent; this will loosen and remove general residue. Then do a cycle using the Lead Remover and (as suggested by other raters) let it stand for 10 minutes or so. After a final two or three more wet/bristle/wet cycles, my shotguns are usually in dandy shape. Using this "bifurcated" approach usually saves me 15 minutes or more each gun versus getting to the same clean level with regular solvent only.

I have always had a leading problem with my Ruger 44 Mag. I've tried everything I could think of and all the snake oil remedies that were recommended to me. No results until last week when I tried Shooter's Choice Lead Remover. It didn't seem to clean any better than solvent but after the next shooting session the barrel was lead free!! I couldn't believe my eyes. I immediately loaded some of the worse bullets I had with maximum loads, fired a few and checked the bore. There was just a very minimal amount of lead but nothing to complain about. I don't know how long the effect will last but I'll be cleaning my Ruger with the Shooter's Choice after each session.

This is a great product. The trick is to use a tight-fitting bore brush, scrub the wet bore with a few dozen strokes, let the bore sit wet for 15 minutes while you clean other gun parts, or reload, and then scrub the bore again with a few dozen more strokes. The soaking softens the leading so the second round of scrubbing can break the leading up into fine particles. The folks I've talked to who aren't happy with this product have been too impatient to let the bore soak, and give the stuff time to work.

Follow directions and this is the best lead solvent available. Just cleaned two old 38's with loads of lead buildup - followed directions and lead was removed effectively.

This is a very good product. I have been using it since it came out on my Match .22 rifles. Usually complaints are from people who have neglected their bores repeatedly and now expect a magical cure. Sorry, negligence has its own rewards. You have a bit more work ahead of you to clean that bore. Cleaning it regularly could have avoided these issues. BTW: Avoid like the plague stainless steel brushes, unless you want to run the risk of damaging a barrel.

This works ok but use the Lewis Lead Remover with it and you wont be sorry. That is a "Lewis Lead Remover".

I have been using Shooters Choice products for years and have been very satisfied with their products. This Lead Remover however has been somewhat disappointing. I thought this stuff was going to "magically" dissolve the lead if left to soak in the barrel for 10-15 mins. I've left it to soak for upwards of two hours with no noticable improvement. It does a decent job of loosening the top layer of lead, but the stubborn lead streaking remains. I use quality hard cast lead bullets for my 38, and 45 and none of them are pushed beyond 1000 fps. The leading for some reason is mostly a problem in my 38 splc which I mostly shoot 158gr LSWC in. The problem is around the 1st inch of rifling. The 45 however is squeaky clean.

I was unimpressed when used by itself, but I did discover that if it is used on an old bore brush with a bit of a cheap copper kitchen scouring pad wrapped around it that the lead comes out fast. The lead remover seems to soften the lead and the copper scouring pad easily abrades it out of the grooves without harming the steel barrel.

I bought a bottle in December to clean my 45-70 and have the same opinion as Mr. Valencia. After repeated soakings and cleanings there is still a sizeable amount of lead in the bore.

It smells odd, it sticks to your fingers, and it did absolutely NOTHING to clean the lead out of my Ruger MK-II, 10-22, 39-A, and everything else I used it on. As my experience; This stuff is worse than useless!
