Recoil buffers are an easy and inexpensive way to eliminate damage of critical components by preventing the metal to metal contact of the slide or breech block with the frame. Made from a high density polyurethane formulated for maximum shock-absorbing characteristics, the recoil buffer is a drop-in part.

Technical Information

Material: Polyurethane

Notes:

  • Recoil buffer installs between bolt or bolt carrier and whatever the bolt or bolt carrier stops against when the bolt is fully retracted during firing (installation location varies with the specific firearm).
  • Buffer absorbs the shock from the action operating, rather than having metal to metal contact at the end of the bolt travel.
  • Service life of the buffer is 800 to 1,000 rounds.
  • Buffer will not be damaged by oils or solvents.

  • Overall Rating: 4.92 stars

There are no downside to using this product at all. It protects the receiver of the 10/22 from metal on metal battering, It further reduces mechanical action noise in a regular, or sound suppressor equipped 10/22. A big plus there. Lasts a long time.

A-23 targets at 50 feet. With stock bolt hold pin, I shoot low-middle 70s/100 and listen to an annoying clatter. With this buffer installed, I shoot low to middle 80s/100. I've had mine for years and it's had well over 5000 rounds fired with it. It no longer looks white, but has taken on an interesting lead/silver color.

This buffer drops right into the receiver in place of the factory steel pin. Reduces recoil a small amount and reduces the metallic "click" of the bolt cycling -- very handy, as I have a silencer and this helps quiet the rifle down even more. The one I received was more grayish than white, but does not seem to have any effect whatsoever on the performance. I've fired about 10,000 rounds through my 10/22 with the factory steel pin, and haven't noticed any damage at all. I mostly got it to quiet the rifle down for suppressed use and it works well for that purpose.

I installed this buffer on my DSP after hearing good things. Well It didn't improve accuracy but it did stop that clanking sound which is what I wanted...

I ordered one of these along with a VQ bolt many years ago for my old 10/22. Have since bought a Target model 10/22 and swapped this buffer and the VQ bolt into the new gun. They rate the service life of the buffer at 800-1000 rounds, but between both guns I have at least 30,000 rounds on this buffer. Sure it looks a little beat up and discolored but it still does its job. The best, cheapest, and easiest way to extend the life of the 10/22 bolt and receiver and reduce action noise.

Good product. Just wish I would of caught the sale. Silences the noise and helps protect the receiver. Could you ask for more?

One of the "must do" swaps for any 10/22. Greatly reduces the sound of the bolt action.

This is a great and easy upgrade that anyone can do. It reduced that metal sound of the bolt cycling a lot.

To avoid steel-on-steel abuse I tried using a piece of orange urethane belting (85A durometer), and got stovepipes galore. With the BufferTech buffer, I put 300 rounds through my Ruger 10/22 in an afternoon with no issues. Maybe quiets it a little bit too.

Installs easily. Anything that reduces metal to metal contact must lengthen the lifespan of the gun. I can't tell a bit of difference as far the bolt clanking back with or w/o the buffer - all I hear is the bang. It is quieter when pulling the bolt back by hand so it must do some good for sound. I'd install it again even though it's sound benefits are lost on me.
