Lee Liquid Alox bullet lube coats the entire bullet just like a very thin jacket. It dries to a soft, varnish-like finish that really adheres to the bullet, additionally the dried coating will not affect powder. Easy to apply and eliminates the need for sizing of most cast bullets. While it works well with all cast bullets, it works best with the micro band bullets, which are designed for tumble lubing.

Technical Information

Container: Plastic bottle
Notes:

  • 1 bottle is enough to coat 1,000 bullets.
  • Alox does not need to be heated to be applied.

Works great on jacketed milsurp bullets and the sizer dies from Lee and on cast bullets as well I have 6 bottles of it. I thinned mine out with a cup of hot water, works great no leading problems, it's a bit messy but the smell makes up for it.

Works great. Shot 1000 rounds of .40S&W in one afternoon, all cast lead with this Alox. Very little leading, even after all that shooting. One warning: stays tacky for a long time, so I can't recommend for automatics (I wiped all 1000 of those rounds clean after loading). Will use it for Tumble-lube-only bullets for revolvers. For automatics, will use a bullet/sizer like RCBS Lube-a-matic 2 for a cleaner bullet nose.

I recently purchased an M1 carbine and wanted to cast my own reloads for it. I had a Lee push-through sizer in .308 which came with liquid Alox, which I never used. I decided to give both the sizer and liquid Alox a try. I threw about 200 cast bullets into a Cool Whip tub, add a couple squirts of Alox, swished them around, and presto, all bullets were coated. I dumped them out onto a piece of wax paper to dry, and the bullets were ready for sizing. The lube stays a bit tacky after it dries which makes it a bit messy to handle the bullets. After reloading, I wipe the excess lube off the noses. Another great product from Lee Precision.

I purchased lead bullets with hard lube from Midway, reloaded with them, and had moderate lead fouling with my Glock. Then I bought the .401 caliber 175 grain micro groove six cavity Lee bullet mold and cast my own bullets. They were very accurate, with no resizing required. I tumbled the bullets in Liquid Alox and placed them base down on a sheet of waxed paper to dry for a day before reloading with them. I've fired over 1000 rounds in my 10 mm Glock model 20, which produces high chamber pressure and fast muzzle velocity for a handgun. Glock recommends against reloaded rounds in general and unjacketed lead in particular. I typically shoot about 200 rounds at a time. There is a slight amount of lead that is easily cleaned with no scrubbing, just a patch and some Hoppes, at most a quick pass with a nylon bristle brush. The accuracy of the 175 grain micro groove bullets covered in AlOx seems very good. Tumble coating is fast, but I might try dipping just the bottom half of the bullet in a diluted AlOx solution to make the process nice and clean and orderly and to avoid tiny dings on the bullets, and to keep the lube off the exposed part of the bullet after it's loaded into the brass. I can't comment on how well it might work in higher velocity rifles, or when used on bullets without the Lee micro groove, but when used with the rest of the Lee micro groove bullet casting products as a system it seemed a lot better than commercially available cast bullets. I was surprised that I enjoyed reloading, and casting my own bullets. From my experience, this is another innovative and excellent product from Lee Precision.

MESSY BUT.. I give it 5 stars because it eliminates leading even in the barrels most prone to leading, even when casting bullets out of wheel weights!!! Just to prove a point to a friend, I loaded some 310gr. bullets cast out of wheel weights in a 44mag. No gas check. At 1250fps, there was NO leading and the accuracy was VERY acceptable. Great product, I will use nothing else!

I have been using this lube for about 6 years now and have not had any lead fouling in my 30-30 or 45s. I take a plastic butter bowl, throw in a handful of wheel weight lead cast bullets, sprinkle around the batch about 5 or 6 drops, shake them up good until they are coated, place them base down on a piece of cardboard or flat wood until the are dried, then reload them. I do heat the lube for 50 seconds in the microwave with the spout open or in a sink full of hot water. It seems to thin the lube to cover more with less. I have found that the lube will cause the bullet seat dies to get gummed up after a while but periodic cleaning will knock that out.

I've used this with hard 230 gr. RNL 45acp in my Glock. THE quick and cheap way to lube bullets. I tumble my bullets in an old water jug with the top cut off and lay them out on wax paper the night before I load. Doesn't take 5 minutes. Also, shoots clean. People say you can't shoot lead in a Glock. I've shot 400 rounds at a time with no leading whatsoever. I plan to use Liquid Alox with my 38 spl and 10mm. The only problem I've had is it stays tacky- don't drop a loaded mag in the sand. Otherwise, really awesome stuff.

I shoot a lot of fairly hot .357 loads with Leadhead and Dry Creek bullets. Very accurate, but I always had a lot of lead fouling to remove after each range session. A real pain, I almost looked for a new load to shoot. Then I heard about this stuff, lubed all my bullets with it before loading. Have not really noticed any significant accuracy benefit, but leading problem has virtually disappeared!

I decided to try the test Mr. Lee suggests in his book "Modern Reloading". I carefully cleaned the barrel of my 1911 and weighed it on my digital scale. 1453.0 grains. I then shot 25 rnd.s of 230 grain Lee tumble lube bullets cast from lead reclaimed from my sandpile and lubed with liquid alox. I ran a bore snake through the barrel twice and weighed it again. 1452.8 grains. It had gotten .2 grains lighter after a cursory cleaning! Yeah, this stuff works not only as a lube but apparently scraped some crud out of my barrel that I didn't even know was there. Now .2 grains isn't much but it is enough to demonstrate that this stuff just plain works as advertised and is cheap and easy to use. I'm sold.

I load a lot of cast bullets for rifles, and some for pistols. I have found that even with regular molds (not 'tumble groove'), Lee's alox works very well and is very easy to apply. Just a thin coating on the bullet is enough to prevent leading in rifles with good bores, pushing velocity to 2000 fps with gas check. A real thick coating ensures even a rough bore goes unleaded. Great product, if admittedly a slow one- you have to let it dry on the bullets over night.

Although I've had this sitting around in my reloading room/workshop for a long time, I had never used it until recently. Tired of the incessant leading commercially cast bullets left in my guns, I decided to try it on a few bullets for my Colt Python. WOW! The difference was both instantaneous and astounding. After 35 rounds, that was all I shot that day, there was no lead in the barrel where it usually collected, or anywhere else (except for a small spot near the forcing cone which has some scratches on it due to some idiot--me!--digging out lead with a sharp instrument). Without the LLA on the bullets, this same load leaded the barrel in as few as 10 rounds, and the rounds didn't even chrono at 800 fps. Eventually, I will begin casting my own bullets and you can bet LLA will coat each and every one of them. One other thing: The bore on my Python slugs at .355" and I thought the leading was due to the tightness of the bore, but now I see that it just needed a good lube. The load mentioned above uses .357" bullets with a hard lube, but the hard lube might as well not even be there for all the good it does. I thought of getting a Lee sizer and taking them down to .356", but, luckily, I had the notion to try LLA first. I am so glad I did. Sometimes, many times, in fact, it pays to try the simple, easy solutions first.

Absolutely great stuff!!! This lube significantly reduces leading, is easy and quick to apply and works not only on Lee tumble lube bullets, but also on paper patch and conventional lead bullets as well. To reduce the stickiness of the dried, ready-to-load bullets I simply shake them up in a zip lock bag with some powdered mica (from Midway) and that does the trick and even adds a solid state lubricant!

I like this product very much. It is simple to apply compared to using a combination lubricator/sizer. It prevents leading in my 9mm and 45 pistols. Using an ordinary hand dryer, I was able to dry lubed bullets in 15 mins and load immediately - no need to dry overnight. This makes lubing w/ Lee Alox 100x faster than any other method in the planet. Definitely 5 stars and super recommended!

I've been reloading with Lee's products for years, this is another great product. I use this lube with Lee's .358 TL SWC cast from 50/50 WW and lino (extremely hard) shooting out of a Taurus 627 Tracker chronographed at 1450 fps with very little leading, and 3" groups at 50 yds with open sights. I believe the leading I'm experiencing is due to the high pressure and heat of the 357 max loads since lead is appearing in the muzzle brake more than in the barrel. Not bad for an all lead bullet with no gas check. I thin the alox with Ronson lighter fluid, about 2oz of lighter fluid to a 4oz bottle of alox. This provides for faster drying and a thinner coating. I let the lubed bullets dry for about 24 hours before loading and they are not sticky, more like the lube on a 22lr.

I just started using this product. I load a lot of ammunition and this is the fastest way to lube bullets. The best way to get excess lube off of the bullets after you have loaded them is to put them in a brass tumbler with corn cob media for about 20 minuets. This will repolish your brass and clean the bullets.

I coat my .22LR lead HP hunting bullets with it and groups shrink and become much closer to what they are with coated match ammo. You can dip an entire tray of 50 at once. Careful not to get any on the brass case though, or you will get extraction issues if you have a match chamber.

I let my bullets dry for at least a day to load but only about thirty minuets before I size them with a lee sizing die which also works great.

I've been using this product for a couple years and it really does work as advertised. My method is to tumble-lube the bullets before sizing, run them through the Lee sizing die, then lube again to cover what was exposed by sizing. After loading, I use a rag soaked with Hoppe's to remove the lube from the exposed part of the bullet so it won't pick up dust or lint. I've used this on conventionally-shaped .45 RN, Lee tumble-lube .357, and even Lee .54 hollow-base Minie (which doesn't require sizing for my rifle), all with excellent results.

A little Midway Mica solves the messiness part. I have never ever had leading using this product and I shoot some pretty fast loads out of rifles=>2000FPS as well as <1000 FPS pistol loads.
