The Z-Point features a hybrid power supply using a combination of battery and solar cell. By daylight, the solar cell supplies power to the red illuminated reticle and as the daylight fades, the electronic system switches over automatically to battery operation (3 volt lithium battery which is included). The basic brightness of the 4 MOA red dot can also be individually set and stored, after which it adjusts automatically to the surrounding light conditions. This is a seven month later update of my earlier review. My gunsmith made a metal shim to take up the space between the Weaver mount on my Zeiss Z-Point sight and the Picatinny rail opening on my rifle. It cost $20.00 and it works great. No more re-zeroing. The Zeiss sight no longer moves from recoil and the sight's footprint is not enlarged. I've shot my Kel-Tec SU-16c (.223), 16" barrel with the Zeiss Red-Dot sight on it - six additional times. With consistent results; the groups remain great, 1" to 2" at 50 yards and 2" to 3" at 100 yards, all with SS109 ammo. I'm very pleased. Also, I've so far not had to replace the original battery after seven months and a total of eight trips to the range. The Zeiss Z-Point-Reflex sight is expensive, but worth it if you want both small size and reliability.

The sight is light in weight well made and has many advantages over other red-dot sights such as dual power and auto dot brightness adjustments. Only problem I had with the site was that Ziess made it to fit a Picatinny rail and not Weaver rail even though Midway advertises to fit both.

Very, very well made Red Dot sight! Very, very small. Very, very light. Perfect? No, but very good. Dual power sources sounds great. But you must have a functioning battery to turn the Zeiss Z-Point Reflex sight on. No battery = no operating sight. Also there is no meter to demonstrate that the solar power cell is working? But that solar cell does look cool. No dust covers come with it. It's so small there is no place to mount them. Every time you reach for/touch the sight you put your fingers on either the objective or ocular lens or on both of them. It's that small. It comes with a great built-in attachment clamp to attach directly to a weaver rail. Be careful with your fingers and that clamp, it's a very painful pinch if it catches you. My rifle is a Kel-Tec SU-16; it has a Picatinny rail. The Zeiss sight fits on it, but the Picatinny slots are wider than the Weaver bars on the site. This results in the Zeiss (Weaver mount) sight moving back and forth (from .223 recoil) on a Picatinny rail, changing the point of impact every 4 to 10 rounds. I have to keep rezeroing. I know, the solution is to get a Weaver adaptor for my Picatinny rail. But then the Zeiss sight gets bigger and heavier. But rezeroing does not cut it - got to bite the bullet. The good news is the site is easy to zero, but again you need a functioning battery to operate the controls, all the solar power cell operates is the red dot and it's a great red dot, small but very visible in all light. Optics are also very good as you would expect. All in all the Zeiss Z-Point is a very good red dot sight, but DO NOT PUT A WEAVER MOUNT SIGHT ON A PICATINNY RAIL.
