This really makes the drudgery of rifle cleaning easier because you no longer have to hold the gun, just your cleaning rod. The rubber feet help the vise resist sliding on my counter top and the rubber molding won't damage delicate finishes. It makes scope mounting and minor gunsmithing tasks much easier. I wish I would have bought this years ago. The only suggestion I would make is try to talk a shooting partner into splitting the 2 pack gun vise deal with you and save yourselves $10.00 each because once they see how nice it works they will want one too.

I bought one of these gun vises a couple of months ago and I don't know how I got by this long without it! It holds my guns firmly yet will not hurt the finish on my wood stocks. I like it because it is easily adjustable and has little compartments to hold cleaning jags, solvent, tools, screws or whatever while you are working on your gun. For the price, it can't be beat!

I borrowed a Tipton and really liked it but decided I would try the MTM gun vise as I like their other products. The MTM was very cheaply made, to light in construction and would not hold pistols. Sent it back to the Major sporting goods catalog dealer in exchange for their own brand of gun vise, it looked like the Tipton in the catalog picture. It wasn't, the cam lock would not lock the guns solid like the Tipton did. Also it was to light in construction and would slide around on my work bench like the MTM did. Third time was the charm. The Tipton gun vise will hold my grandson's Daisy BB gun up to my Big Magnum caliber model 70. Whether you are running a cleaning rod thru the barrel, or mounting a scope it holds the weapons firmly in place (including my pistols) due to its solid construction.

For $40 bucks, nothing else even comes close. It is an excellent choice for scope mounting, bore sighting, bedding, and general home gunsmithing. I almost gave it 4 stars because the vice tends to cant the rifle and depending or the shape of the stock, it may not sit level. I have remedied both of these issues with simple foam padding. The Tipton pro model is more adjustable, but it is twice the price. With all of the compartments molded into the bottom, I never lose any small parts. Some of the round compartments are actually rounded on the bottom for getting those small screws with fat fingers like mine.

All around excellent product for cleaning, scope mounting and general maintenance. Unlike one of the other reviewers, mine holds all my firearms perfectly vertical for scope mounting and bore sighting. I was particularly impressed with the heavy duty nature of the unit; much thicker moldings than I anticipated and assembled like a breeze. If you clean a long gun more than once a year you need this.

Researched many other vises. For the money, this vise is much more structurally sound, multi-application friendly and very easy to assemble. I too, will recommend this vise to my shooter friends.

Great product. I put it together in about 5 minutes, and then took care of a couple sight/scope installation projects that had been waiting. It's not perfect, but I can't imagine a better product for the money. It replaces a 20 year old hand made gun vise that is prehistoric in comparison. Highly recommend.

I have used this vise for numerous years and have given several to others as gifts. I have read most of the other reviews and they make me chuckle. I guess folks of different abilities will buy the same product and come up with different opinions. I have mounted at least 20 scopes using this vise with stocks ranging in forearm thickness from varmint to sporter style with totally satisfactory results. I don't know how I got along without this vise. I clean centerfire rifles both modern and military with this vise. I clean inline muzzeloaders also. It works very well on everything I have. I have cleaned Military semi automatics with it. I have not had the experience of having solvent running back into the bore with any rifle that I clean with this vise. The price is outstanding for the utility it provides. I'm recomending this to every shooter I know. All that have bought one or received one from me rave about it. Great product.

Have used these in the past in a gun shop. Nothing's better than this vice for cleaning rifles. The storage compartments come in real handy and the construction stood up to cleaning 10+ guns per day every day. This product is easy to put together, stands up to hard use, and for the price you just can't beat it.

This is better than a 3rd hand when it comes to Cleaning rifles or bore sighting one. The only draw back is it's size when it comes to putting it away. But worth the room...

All plastic parts are heavy gauge and fit together quickly and flawlessly. I purchased this rifle vice strictly for cleaning and servicing my rifles. Though I knew before ordering it was not intended for bore sighting, I had to try it out to see for myself. And, no, the Tipton does not easily adapt itself for bore sighting. Keep that in mind should you order one for yourself. Overall I am very pleased with the quality and value of the Tipton Gun Vise.

I think it is good for the price, I do notice, as others, that the muzzle of my gun sits up very high, and will cause cleaning liquid to run back. The vice sits very low on my stock, I wish it was more centered. I do think that it is built quite well, some modifications would make it even better.

I've owned this gun vise for about 2 years. Very durable, yet gentle on my old military rifle's delicate finish. It has convenient moldings to house my solvents and other supplies securely while cleaning. The vise is easily adjustable. It's worth every penny.

I was a little worried given some of the feedback further down the thread but apparently Tipton has listened and made some improvements. Assembly was a breeze, put it on my workbench and took turns putting a couple of different rifles and shotguns into it. Each one levelled right up and held level solid so I expect this will make scope mounting and other projects plenty easy. The cutouts and cups built into the base are handy for supplies and keeping small parts from wandering. Great value for the price. Hard to go wrong with this unit.

I just recently purchased one of these to help mount scopes on two rifles. I was initially pleased with the construction of the Tipton vice. However it does not work well for scope mounting. The stock clamp does not hold the rifle in a vertical alignment at all. This was true for both a Kimber HS and a Remington 700. I had to fudge things to keep the rifles vertical. This made things take extra long to complete the task. I could have done better and quicker using my old pillow method. It will work well for a general maintenance vice (cleaning, etc) but not for serious work. Perhaps I will consider their "better" model.

The rifle vise is useful for cleaning but I found it difficult for scope mounting. It's too bad you can't turn your rifle upside down to torque your screws. I found the holding clamping device usually slightly off from where it should be on most rifles. So I made and adapter to cure the problem.

I bought this vise and then returned it and bought Tipton's Best. This vise only clamps from one side so it tends to cant the rifle. Also, the mid support is not adjustable. I guess if your gun fits or you just want to bore clean it might be OK. But the "Best" is the one for scope mounting, bore sighting, and repairs.

This vise is ok for general cleaning as long as a block of wood is placed under the clamping end. It has a cant to the left when clamped in, this makes it use-less for level scope mounting. The mounting hole for one of the feet wasn't completely formed and I epoxied it in. I also used a jam nut to lock the adjusting rod, it didn't come with one.

The gun sits in the vise at an angle and the barrell is higher than the action, so all solvent can drain into the action at it soaks. OK for minor maintenance, but can't mount scopes easily. Simply needs to be re-engineered to factor in the angles. Lower the barrel for cleaning as well as stop the canting left to right.

Very useful gun vise but the main problem I have with it is the clamping mechanism may not hold your rifle in a vertical position. Depending on where the circular clamp on the left side contacts your stock, it may cause it to tilt over. That doesn't particularly matter if you are just using it for a cleaning cradle but if you want to hold your rifle while mounting a scope, it is a real pain. Perhaps the newer version with a symetrical shaped clamping block will overcome the tilting problem?

I too found the clamp pad too low to securely mount the rifle. The center post is too high to allow the gun to rest lower in the clamp. I am thinking about sawing it off. Would like to see the clamp support to have some vertical adjustment and the clamping faces to have some concave contour to more securely hold the butt stock. I like the trays and the cam locking mechanism.

The forearm rest is either too big or too small to support the hand guard and it keeps slipping. The clamp is too low to exert pressure on the thickest part of the stock. Instead it pushes on the beveled part which causes it to tilt to the left. The adjustable (screw ) part should be made bigger for this purpose. It is good only for cleaning your rifle. Not good for sighting in your scope. But a good shooting rest, like a Caldwell BR would serve both purposes well. I returned mine.

I purchased this product for the purposes of rifle cleaning and scope mounting. This gun vice is a disappointment on both accounts. When the gun is properly clamped in the vice for cleaning, the muzzle is elevated instead of pointing slightly down. This allows solvents in the barrel to flow back into the action. This is true for rifles with sporter stocks and even worse for varmint style stocks with a wider forend. Surely a company like Tipton that specializes in cleaning equipment is astute enough to know that the muzzle should not be elevated during cleaning. As for scope mounting, I could not find a single rifle that would sit straight in the vice when properly clamped in place. All rifles, regardless of stock style, ended up tilted at an angle. I had hoped that this vice would hold my rifles at a solid vertical to aid in scope alignment. This product does not even come close.
