I was hoping to use this little guy to spot check a few rounds and check for broadhead consistency. After using it for several months now it has found a dedicated space on my reloading bench. It has always given me quick accurate, repeatable results that I have come to trust. For the money, it can't be beat!

Great price and great performance. It eats CR2032 Batteries. It drifts badly with weak batteries without any warning. Can get you into trouble on the reloading bench if you’re not aware. Get one, and solder a radio shack 3 volt power supply to it then you have the best of the best. Cheap, AND dependable.

I purchased one of these and initially had erratic results. I called Frankford and was told they had made some changes and sent me new scale free of charge. I have been waiting to review the new scale to make sure the scale held up. After many uses, this little scale has truly impressed me. I have had consistent results and no problems of any kind. For the price it simply can not be beat.

Just received this scale today and I am impressed. I was looking for a backup to my balance beam scale and I read a lot of good things about this scale. Cleaned the batteries and calibrated it. I have a set of check weights that go down to .5 grains and up to 20 grains for the largest. This scale accurately weighed all small weights to the number!! It also hit exactly the weight for the large ones also. I think I got a great scale for a great price and it is repeatable in accuracy. I recommend it at this time.

I use this scale to quickly weigh my cast bullets to sort for consistent weights. It gives repeatable weights and has proven to be one of the more valuable items in my reloading box. One of those tools that is worth far more than it cost me. I've read the reviews of those who've had trouble with theirs and would suggest they return them for a warranty replacement. Mine was perfect right out of the box. I'd buy another in an instant if I had the need for two.

Can tare this scale out with a piece of gun brass or shotgun hull instead of the plastic pan. Will give accurate readings with a powder throw to the cartridge or hull. That way you just pull out a round, weigh it quickly to ensure your throwing the proper weight of powder, and continue reloading. Much faster than balance beams. Now if your a bullseye shooter you might want to do it the old fashioned way to ensure super accurate loads. Fantastic for hunters, casual target, bowling pin and silhouette shooters.

I read all the reviews and was really surprised at how many did not like the scales. I found them to be very easy to operate and I found nothing wrong with the original batteries. I found the repeatability of measure to be within .05gr. or better. The minute timer did not bother me as all I needed to do if the display turns off was hit the on button again and it automatically zeroed and was ready to go again. No problem. I measure all my cast bullets and segregate them by weight. I checked the accuracy with my RCBS 10-10 balance scale and found them to be right on with each other. I would not be afraid to weigh my smallest pistol charges on this scale. My suggestions to others that could not get them to work correctly is to read the instructions or get some eighth grader to explain the instructions to you. This product is worth more than the $30 cost and I wish I had one 35 years ago when I started reloading.

Considering the price of this product, I give it an excellent rating. I get consistent weights over the last couple months for a few check weights. Its worked well so far having followed some of the advice below. The only annoying features are it's short delay in shutting down and tendency to creep up a grain or two if you leave a charge on the scale for several seconds. Weigh it, then remove it.

The only thing that prevents this product from being the best thing since smokeless powder is the fact that it is battery powered and it has an auto shut off feature. This means that it will shut it self off if you fiddle around for too long. Other than the short time to shut off ( I am sure that this feature saves the battery, I have not had to change my battery in 8 months ), this is wonderful. Easy to use, big digits, very accurate and now cheaper than ever. I am old enough to remember the first digital scales that would measure .1 grain and they used to cost around $700.00. The old ones were not as accurate as this one, this calibrates well and is so easy to use. Every reloader should buy this one today.

LOVE IT! In addition to the battery issue, (DO clean them!), I also would recommend NOT using the plastic powder pan included. Seems to have a static electricity problem! I switched to the metal pan from my Lee balance scale, and that solved the 'wandering' that sometimes happened. Also, it is quite temperature sensitive. I load out in the garage, and when it is cold and breezy out there it seems to vary just a bit. Keep it warm, feed it CLEAN batteries, and use a metal pan. I check every tenth or so load against the balance, and when kept warm, it stays within a tenth or two at MOST. Yeah, I don't like the auto shut-off either, but makes me keep moving!

Excellent scale. I can use a pan from an Ohaus scale and, set it by "tare," and take it from there. If I have to trickle any powder into the pan, I can read the amount as it grows -- better than many scales at three times the price. This solved many small reloading headaches for me, and they add up as I'm a commercial loader.

Great scale for the money. I checked it against my beam scale and it was right on. It has a tendency to drift but it takes only a second to reset the tare weight, and for the price this is a small detail. I use it every time I reload. If you want better, spend more, but for the price, it does the job well.

Product worked as advertised, except cheesy plastic powder tray which retained powder flakes, and threw off scale until I spotted the tiny flakes. I substituted a once-fired case, reset the tare weight, and the scale was working 100%. I'd suggest FA replace the plastic with a brass powder holder with steeper/deeper sides and a pouring spout. Other than that, I'd highly recommend it since it showed my reading of my Lee balance beam was off by 1 10th of a grain. The LCD display is much easier to read.

When I first was thinking of getting into reloading, I was VERY concerned about the scale I was going to use to check my charges. After reading all of the reviews I saw online, and debating on the amount I was willing to spend, I settled on this one. It had mixed reviews as of when I bought it in early March. (2009). So far I haven't had a single problem with this thing and it works great! Calibrates right on the money and it's accurate to within .01 grains. The only thing I will say is that you need to treat it as a scale, so don't set things on it, keep the cover on it when you're not using it, and be careful with it at all times! The slightest of damage could result in inoperability on any scale, especially a sensitive electronic one. But again, I've had an easy time using this scale and it's been OUTSTANDING so far. Although my review may be an early one, I'd have to say that I am very satisfied with it.

Excellent product and an amazing value. I bought extra batteries but have not needed to use them: I ordered two and both came with healthy batteries. Very accurate if you calibrate according to the brief instructions. Yes, the auto shut-off is slightly annoying but that's a quibble. Both Franklins I bought agree with my beam scale but are much faster to use. I suggest using the digital scale and checking against the beam scale every ten or twenty rounds, since the accuracy may falter as the batteries near their end.

Make sure to check with another scale- preferably non-digital- before relying on a digital scale, but that is just safe procedure. This scale works accurately and reliably and provides the same weights as my other scales. It is also small and handy enough to take to the range.

I just ordered one of these from Midway. I didn't have the time to purchase new batteries as some of the other reviewers of the product suggested. I cleaned the ones that came with the unit with alcohol, put them in the scale and started to work with it. This is so much faster than using a balance beam scale and I believe it to be more accurate. I went to the range today and used some of the ammo reloaded with this scale and my groups were tighter than they ever were with the balance beam scale. For the price, ease of use and accuracy, I wish I would have purchased this sooner. Follow the directions and you can't go wrong.

This works just as it's supposed to. I went ahead and used name brand batteries in this at set up as was suggested elsewhere. It uses the very common 2032 flat battery, so I used the batteries that came with it in my red dot sights. I calibrated the scale, and got consistent readings on the weight that came with it, as well as a 115 grain 9mm bullet. The tare functions worked easily, and the measure of salt I used as a test weighed consistently. I use a Lee 1000 progressive loader in pistol and .30 carbine, so this scale is more accurate than the powder throw of my equipment.

You can't beat this little jewel for the money. It beats mechanical scales hands down. I don't mind the 1 minute shut off, as you can keep it going, by either adding or removing something from the scale, and it will recalculate... Even if it does turn off, it comes online pretty quick after hitting the on button. It has helped me achieve a higher level of confidence in weighing my powder charges, and has resulted in increased accuracy at the range. You can also weigh bullets with it, and lots of other things, which are near impossible to do on the mechanical powder scales.. It will come out of calibration sometimes, but the reset is quick and easy.. Cannot be beat for the price, I gave it 5 stars because, when you consider cost and performance, it delivers in a big way.

The Micro Scale holds zero, is accurate to 1/10 grain every time from about 5 grains up. I checked it with several check weights on several other scales, it beats them all hands down. Batteries last forever. It is fast, easy to use, priced right, and darned accurate. Buy it! Use it! You will like it!

Okay, five stars is pretty high for a 'budget' scale--but that's the point. It is an amazing value! Anyone can get a $200 scale and like the way it works. This one comes in a package so small that I thought I received the wrong product until I opened it. But it does everything it claims to do, and does it just fine. For those who have problems with theirs, please learn to clean your battery contacts with a bit of alcohol on a swab prior to inserting batteries (the batteries are very low current draw) and wipe the batteries with a tissue soaked in alcohol before inserting them--then DON'T put your (inherently greasy) fingers on the batteries as you insert them. Hold them with a tissue. Remember too that it might be possible that your batteries are dead or weak. Usually the cause of malfunctions with a battery-operated product. This scale is accurate and repeatable, does what it promises, and would be fine for all but bench resters who need to measure to a tenth of a grain or perhaps even more accurately than that. Rounding to the nearest EVEN grain is not exactly like charging your loads with a snow shovel. I'm buying eight pounds of powder with the money I saved.

Like some other reviewers, I was getting very inconsistent readings when I first received/set-up this scale. The secret is to throw out the batteries that come with the scale, and purchase some NEW quality batteries for it. It cost a little less than $4 for a 2-pak of Energizer batteries at Wally-World, and it made a tremendous difference. I went through and weighed 10 rounds of loaded .308 from a major manufacturer. They were laid out in a line, and were weighed in order with the results written down after each weighing. This was done 3 times. Each cartridge weighed within one tenth of a grain each of the three times. There were weight variations from cartridge to cartridge (3.3 grains difference from the lightest to the heaviest), so it wasn't just giving me the same figure for each round. I also tried it with bullets and .177 cal lead pellets (which weighed 7.8 gr. on average), and got the same type of results. For the price, I consider it to be one of the best reloading purchases I've made.

Scale worked fine. I tested it using a set of pharmaceutical weights: 6 weights ranging from 0.5gr to 5gr and 7 weights ranging from 20gr to 480gr. The scale was 0.1gr low for each of the 13 weights. This is a 20% error for the 0.5gr weight, 0.5% for the 20gr weight, and 0.02% for the 480gr weight. My PACT scale was dead on accurate for each weight. Considering the price, it's a great value for use at the range. I'll continue to use my PACT at home.

Works great. Gives me repeatable weights to +/- .1 gr. Use the instructions exactly as written and you should not have any problems. I tried the Hornady gs-1500 and that was awful compared to this scale. It was on sale so I figured "why not". I’m glad I did, great scale.

Amazing value! I had very low expectations and was very pleasantly surprised. It didn't seem to hold its calibration at first, but it turned out I was still in calibration mode. Once out of that, it held calibration and was repeatable in its results. I wonder if the others having the same problem were also in calibration mode.

This electronic scale weighs everything you need to reload cartridges with up to 750 grains of powder. It also weighs carats, ounces, and grams with precision. The scale runs on two 2032 lithium cells, just like the ones in red dot scopes, readily available in many stores for about $2 each. Setup is a cinch as the scale comes with a 20 gram calibration weight. Super value for the money.

I am highly impressed with this scale. I was skeptical about this product but recent reviews swayed me into purchasing the scale. I wasn't willing to throw $30 bucks out the window if the scale didn't work properly. After receiving the scale, I put new batteries in (from reading some of the reviews) and followed the instructions for initializing, calibrating and setting tare (zeroing out the display with the powder pan on the scale). I then checked the accuracy by weighing my check weights - and the scale was right on the money. I then weighed and prepared 20 brass cases with powder. Following that, I double-checked the weight of each case by pouring the powder back into the powder pan and re-weighing the amount. Some of the amounts did change (+/- .3 grains) but I figured this had more to do with my procedures than the scale. After paying more attention to my procedures, I found the samples were much more consistent (usually right on the money but no more than +/- .1 grain). Some procedures which help consistency in weighing are: (1) Placing the powder pan on the scale at the same place each time (try to make it dead-center on the scale); (2) Tapping the powder pan containing the powder against the top of the bench or counter to uniformly settle the powder; (3) and waiting at least ten seconds after achieving the desired weight before taking the powder pan off the scale. After I finished the 20 cases, I re-weighed the check-weights and they still weighed right on the money (=/- .0 grains). I then shut off the scale, turned it back on and recalibrated and re-tared the scale. I then re-weighed my check weights (right on the money) and 5 of the cases I prepared (also right on the money - +/- .0 grains). Regarding the 60 second shut-off problem - I had no problems with the scale shutting off as long as I maintained my procedures. If the scale does shut off, it does not need to be re-calibrated - just re-tared with the powder pan to set the display back to zero. Final comment - wear latex or nitrile gloves when conducting any aspect of reloading (including handling the scales). This will prevent oils from fingers from affecting results.

I kept double checking them to see if the scale stayed true, and so far no problems. Great little scale, at a great little price.

I'm giving the scale 4 stars, because there must be a better one somewhere. But at $30 I doubt you will find one: it is worth every penny. I have compared it against my beam scales and they measure within +1/4 to -0 of each other. The scale zeros when turned on. You can get it to ignore the tare weight of the powder container. For example, if you put an empty case on the scale before turning it on, you will get it to zero, then when the powder is dispensed, it can be weighed thus verifying how well the powder measure is throwing. The read-out is easy to see. The scale measures in a choice of oz, grams, grains. One thing that I would like to see. The battery saving feature is OK, but not long enough. It should be adjustable or have the ability to turn it off.

I also had my doubts about this scale before I bought it because of the price, but it has proved to be an excellent product. I have had it for several months now and if I have a complaint it is only a small one and does not reflect on the accuracy of the product. The scale will shut itself off if its sets idle and unattended. Usually because I get distracted. I then have to restart and I always re-calibrate, but if I am paying attention and doing my part, this is not a problem. I feel that it is more than worth the money spent and I feel a little guilty that I got such a great deal at such a little cost.

Great little scale. Much better than any balance beam. Very accurate, and easy to use. Only thing I dislike about the design is the auto shut off feature, so I give it a 4 star rating. Something to consider when using this scale may be to look for a better pan. As the one that comes with it is somewhat small, but perfectly usable. But a larger pan with taller walls may make weighing charges a little easier as the powder will not be able to bounce out of the pan as easily.

Now if I can figure out what those little black plastic pieces are for that came in the bullet tray.

The scale calibrated right away and holds the calibration of 20 grams. The conversion to grains is correct. The instruction book could be easier to understand, especially when switching between grams, grains, ounces, etc. I did not have the battery problems that others have mentioned. In comparing the reading with my set of Lyman check weights this scale reads 0.1 grains low from 0.2 grains to 100 grains consistently. The readings do not drift once a "final value" has been displayed. However, if I take the weight off it does not return to zero about 1 out of every 6 or 7 times and needs to be re-tared. I have had this happen with other scales so it is no problem. I plan on using this for miscellaneous weighing at the bench and for using at the range but it won't replace my beam scale. All in all, I am glad that I bought it. If you are going to use it as your only scale, get a set of check weights to go along with it.

Does what it promises at a great value. I'm sure this isn't the scale a bench shooter will use, but for the average Joe, this scale measures to the tenth of a grain without issue. Compared the weights this scale showed against my old reliable Hornady Magnetic Beam scale, and it measures the same... just a WHOLE LOT FASTER. Digital readout could be larger... but readable. I thought it would be bigger than it is. About the size of a pack of cigarettes.

The scale is sensitive to static electricity. The clear plastic powder tray and clear plastic cover supplied with the scale both store static electricity. Therefore, when using the supplied plastic powder tray the scale gives erratic readings, and one can observe the weight change as one's hand approaches the tray. I changed the tray for a lightweight metallic pan I had from an old beam scale. The scale worked great with the metallic pan. I recommend buyers discard the clear plastic parts, since gunpowder in the presence of static electricity is unsafe. Make a metallic pan from aluminum foil or use a lightweight pan from an old beam scale. You won't be disappointed. I give this scale four stars because, apart from the clear plastic parts, it repeats very well and measured exactly the same as the beam scale I was using.

Bought this scale after drooling over the low price (for a digital). I've owned it for a month now, and I've loaded 400 pistol rounds with it so far. It's quite consistent. Once you understand the instructions (which aren't great), calibration is easy. Scale comes with: 20g check weight, batteries, powder pan, tiny scoop, and some kind of grasping tool, which I assume is for use inserting the batteries. The powder pan is a joke, though - too shallow and spills powder everywhere, & the plastic makes the powder stick to it. The little scoop is kinda useful in adding tiny amounts, like a poor man's trickler. I'd buy another, and I'd recommend this scale to others, with the above cautions.

The auto shut-off is a pain but once I get more experienced using the scale, I've found it to become less of a problem. I still remeasure using my balance beam scale more than I need to. But, since I am working up loads, I want the data to be exact. I always get my initial weight with the Frankford scale then pour the contents into the balance beam pan preset to my desired weight.(something like measure twice cut once)

Overall, a great little scale for the price. It looks a lot bigger on the website than what it is. When they say "pocket-sized" that is exactly what they mean. It will fit in your shirt pocket! Don't let the size fool you though, it works great. The only reason I didn't give it a "5-star" rating was because personally I HATE the "automatic-off" feature. It is a pain in the you-know-what. You can also tare it with other things (I use an aluminum powder pan off of a Lee beam scale and it works great, makes for easier pouring out of the powder after I've weighed it). I do highly recommend it.

As I've used it for a while, I've decided I needed to recant my review below. I have developed a routine for using this scale that allows for relatively quick verification of charge weights and dribbling precision charges. It has, with a little practice and use, turned out to be well worth the very modest cost and produced some really good precision loads out of my Garand and 6.5x57mm Mauser. While I still find the 60 second shut off a real pain and consider this to be a feature Fulton Armory should change (batteries are cheap and a power supply jack would be even better)the tare can be set on this unit very quickly and provides very good precision as long as you learn the scale well enough to develop a loading routine that will accommodate its limitations. I was a little too hasty in my initial assessment folks. I can say with a more informed perspective now that this little scale is well worth the money, particularly in combination with Fulton's cool little battery powered powder dribbler. They make an inexpensive and accurate set up for those of us who can't bring ourselves to dump several hundred dollars into a powder dispenser.

Reading the other reviews, I believe they accurately convey my impressions of this scale. I like it very much, and it's worth the money I paid for it. I use it to check consistency of results -- put 10 finished rounds on it, and they should all weigh up about the same. OOPS! One is 5 grains too heavy -- double charge? Better check that! It's also great for weighing bullets and cases. My most important observation is about weighing *precision*. Accuracy and precision are two different things. The product description leads one to believe that this scale can tell the difference between 4.1 grains and 4.2 grains. Not necessarily so. You see, this scale actually measures in grams, with a precision of 0.01 grams. It then converts the gram measurement into grains (or ounces, or carats, or one of several other units, selected via the mode switch). So, the smallest increment of weight it can detect is in the vicinity of 0.01 gram (not grain). Converting to grains, 0.01 gram is equal to 0.154323584 grains. Everything you weigh on this scale, in the grains mode, will be a multiple of this number of grains, because it will be some multiple of 0.01 grams. The scale is just multiplying by the conversion factor before displaying the weight. This limits what you can do with small powder charges, such as one would use in a 9mm or 380 auto reloading situation. If your load data calls for 4.1 grains, and you don't want 4.0 or 4.2 grains, then this scale won't have enough precision for your needs. However, if you don't mind being within plus or minus 0.154 grains, then this scale works very nicely. I've used this scale to check how much powder I throw using the 0.5 cc powder dipper from my Lee 9mm Pistol Die set. The resolution is good enough for me to feel comfortable I'm not getting too close to my max load of 5 grains, but I did double check this using my Lee beam balance and had no discrepancies between the Frankford micro scale and the beam balance, within the +/- 0.154 grain resolution of the Micro scale.

Works well and a good value. I've used an RCBS 5-10 scale for over 20 years, and got this as a supplement to that. Checked the readings with a weight set, and against the RCBS and it come out within 0.1 grain. One of the best bang-for-the-buck reloading purchases I've made. The tip about getting new batteries is a good one. If you are having problems, get new batteries before you give up on it. Also, like most sensitive scales, it is sensitive to air currents. The only complaint I have would be that the little soft case it comes with should have a little pocket for the 20 gram calibration weight.

I recently purchased this scale and for the money, you can't go wrong. Excellent purchase for the money. I've used it to weigh powder charges, sort bullets, primers, and to sort thru cases to prepare match grade ammo. Neat !! I had more of an issue keeping like weighed items lumped together. Didn't realize so much weight variance in some items ( shells for example). I did notice the scale had to be re-zero'd occasionally but after I noted the tare weight of the weighing pan, I knew when it had to be re-zero'd ( when it didn't). It is sensitive to air currents and reloading table movements. Any electronic scale is affected the movement & air current. If you are in the need of something more sophisticated, go buy a higher end powder/ scale dispenser. This unit fulfilled my needs. The only downside I would place on this unit is that I would have liked & paid for a larger pouch to hold the scale, weight, instructions, and weighing pan. The pouch that accompanies the kit has room only for the scale & lid. I'm afraid after time the vac formed tray that the kit came in will see it's better days, and in time will have to be discarded. Then the items that couldn't be slipped into the pouch may get lost.

This is a great scale for the price. You have to read the directions very careful on how to calibrate it. I thought the calibration scale said 209 and nothing was reading 209. Then the next day I was in better light and with glasses read it again, and it says 20g!!! It calibrates right to 20 g. This scale is small but does a good job of doing what it is suppose to do. I have had no problems so far except it shuts off in 60 seconds of no use.

Can't be beat for the price. Once I figured out its quirks, it’s simply great. I love it. Words of Wisdom: Buy your own 20gram certified calibration weight. The weight that came with mine had chrome plate chipping off, and as it turns out was still heavy compared to the certified one from McMaster. Also, make sure the CR2032 batteries are fresh (3v) before using it, and remove them after your finished. Weak batteries really screw up the repeatability with no warning. This can get you in big trouble. Just keep testing with the 20 gram test weight during your work, and you will be fine.

I received my scales: they are wonderfully mobile and compact. Thank goodness I had read the previous reviews here and had been made aware the need to clean the electrical contacts and trash the batteries it came with. Sure enough, when I installed the included batteries, I was never getting the same reading twice. I then went out and bought new batteries and installed them (quality name brand batteries) and it works perfect- flawless. SO, with the included batteries suffer frustration. Install good batteries and be tickled to death with your new little jewel.

This is a great little scale. I bought it to speed up my large case reloading. Now this is not the scale for anyone needing benchrest precision but for my hunting rounds it works great. the scale measures grains in 0.2 steps. that is close enough for me. you do have to re-zero every now and then (just push the button). it is not top of the line but you don't pay for top of the line either. great for budget reloader that do small volume.

An excellent tool for it's price. This is not a substitute for a good balance scale, but a compliment to your loading bench. I bought mine for comparing and sorting bullets and cases, a job for which this scale is perfectly suited. It is reasonably accurate and repeatable. It is much smaller than I expected, but that is no detraction from it's value or purpose. It would not be my first choice for weighing powder charges, I prefer to use a balance for that. Within the realm of it's intended purpose, I give it four stars. I would give it five, but I have not owned it long enough to rate it's durability.

It is an OK scale. It works perfectly well as long as you take the batteries out after you are done using it. I put a fresh Duracell in when I got it (came with one that was dead on arrival), left it in after calibrating it (it looked like it was off anyway) and went to bed. When I got up the battery was dead again... Now I just take them out when I'm done and I have no other issues. Good scale for the money.

You get what you pay for. Even after calibration, accuracy is -0.1 at 2-20 grains, and -0.3 at 60 grains. If you need something more accurate, look elsewhere. Precision seems fine; i.e., the measurements are repeatable... just not accurate. Accuracy and precision are two different things. The scale is incredibly small; it will drop into your T-shirt pocket. I'll use the money I saved on more powder and bullets.

This budget digital scale is inexpensive AND cheap. The Good: 1. It's only $25!!! 2. It CAN be quite accurate (see item 2 in "The Bad") - I tested this unit with new batteries using a set of check weights, and it was spot on for 10 different measurements between .5 gr and 500 gr. 3. Impressive range of weights it can weigh – I can weigh complete cartridges for my .300 Wby. 4. Works as promised (with fresh batteries) The Bad: 1. Batteries are hard to find and expensive ($4 each for Duracell’s at the local hardware store). 2. Batteries don't last long (new batteries lasted for three sessions of load workup – approx 75 measurements). HINT - when batteries start to die, the measurements will fluctuate by 5-10 grains (on the upside, this a large enough difference that it should get your attention) – eventually the measurement will ‘change before your eyes’, so you’ll know to change the batteries if you didn’t pick up on it before. 3. Auto Shut-off activates after too short an interval (~1 minute) and this interval can't be extended. 4. Cheap plastic tray (A very minor issue at this price point) Final thoughts: I gave this ‘budget’ alternative a good test drive and it did what was promised. However, I will be returning it for a refund. I’ll be replacing it with an RCBS Chargemaster 750 from Midway and expect to make up the price difference in battery costs alone (using wall power). If you have sausage fingers like mine and hate trying to manipulate the micro adjustments on a balance beam scale, digital is the way to go. This scale eliminated the single most frustrating part of reloading for me.

Mine is not accurate. I replaced the batteries and cleaned the terminals. The scale is susceptible to static charges and this throws off the reading. I will replace it with a metal unit when I can. Also the tare needs to be reset after each measure. My bench is solid, I use a damping pad, and the air is still.

Take this scale for what its worth — as a nice safety check for your traditional scale (to ensure YOU didn't screw something up!). It's not trustable enough to weigh a load, but it is trustable enough to make sure you don't blow your face off because of a misread on a magnetic scale. I also use it to make sure my powder measure throws are staying uniform.

This scale is small which comes in handy when space is limited. But I've had many frustrating moments with it. It seems to only hold zero for a certain period of time before needing to be tared. The batteries do not seem to last very long and those 2032 lithium batteries aren't the cheapest to buy. Sometimes it seems to perform fine and other times it seems to have a mind of its own. Reloading is something that requires a great deal of attention and requires quality, dependable, equipment. I plan on getting another scale soon and preferably one that doesn't use batteries.

This scale is a very good value, especially since I bought one on sale at a significant discount. The only fault I can find with it is that it does not read true when tested with a Lyman scale check set. The Lyman 0.5 gr weight consistently read as 0.4 gr, the 1 gr weight read at .8 gr, the 2 gr weights each read at 1.8 gr, and the 5 gr weight read at 4.8 gr. The heavier weights all read low by 0.1 - 0.4 gr. These inaccuracies are not sufficiently large to cause problems, and they are reproducible, so the scale is consistent. Buyers should know that the scale MAY under represent the true powder weight, however.

My first scale lasted over two years, and was always reliable and accurate. Finally, however, it began to add .1 grain to the powder charge, and kept adding and adding and adding. Fresh batteries produced no change. Chucked it and bought another scale, which had the progressive addition problem right from the beginning. I gave it 3 stars because if you get one that works, it's a 5-star performer, but you might be just as likely to get one that is defective right out of the package, and that one obviously gets 0 stars. Fortunately Midway's return policy always gets 5 stars.

Not impressed. I get inconsistent measurements even after cleaning the battery contacts and replacing the batteries. Granted it is reletively inexpensive and it is ususaly within a few tenths of a grain but it does not always give the same measurement even on the calibration weight. Over time and repeated use it gets farther and farther off from zero so it needs to be reset regularly. I am not confident that I can rely on it.

It works okay, but I wouldn't count on it for super accurate readings. I have weighed the same item multiple times and gotten different readings each time. The variation was usually pretty small--like a few Tenths of a grain. When weighing a 405 grain .458 bullet, a few Tenths is nothing. But when weighing a 5 grain powder charge for a .40 S&W a few Tenths can be a little more crucial.

This is a very decent scale, but with two concerns. First, good things. Small, accurate and very low cost. Bad things. Batteries - you must use good batteries and it depletes them up fast, maybe 10 hours run time and probably less. Once the batteries get low the unit becomes inaccurate. The cheapest I could find a two pack of batteries is around $3.00 including tax. At the rate of usage, you will quickly negate the low price point of the scale. You're better off with an AC powered unit such as the RCBS 750. Durability. Not so good. Mine saw heavy use but no abuse. It lasted me about 8 months and it simply stopped working. Bottom line, a good scale for portable use, such as at the range. Not a good choice for a primary scale. Would be a good back up scale if you can keep good batteries on hand.

When I noticed problems, the first thing I did was buy new batteries for it, as per previous reviews. The scale is located in an area free of vibration and drafts, and it is on a solid, stable bench. If I zero it, weigh a charge, dump it, and place the pan back onto the scale, 25% of the time the zero is off by +/- up to 0.5 grains. But the initial charge does not seem to be grossly out of range (within 5 grains). I just need to zero it every time I weigh a charge. Although it usually seems to be within +/- 1 gr of my RCBS balance, I'd personally never, ever, ever trust anything it reads for loading. I only use it to do the rough calibration on my powder measure, or double check a bullet weight. As an analytical chemist with over 10 years of lab experience, I've used a lot of balances/scales and know how to use one properly. This one I received is not reliable in my opinion. Some instructions might be useful also, but they would most likely not help to improve the accuracy or precision of the scale.

This is not a scale for reloading. You can measure bullets if you only need to know what size they are to the grain, but don't trust the 1/10g. I changed the batteries like many said, but it still varies from .1 to .3 grain all the time. The most useful part of this scale was the calibration weight that I can use on other scales. This thing is embarrassingly bad for the Frankford Arsenal name. Thankfully this is not the first product under that name I have used; otherwise I would stay away from a name that has never let me down in the past. I haven't returned it because I read the reviews and thought I would take a chance and check it out. Take my advise-- don't buy this.

Ok, if you need a cheap accurate scale, this might be for you. On the plus side, it is very accurate. On the negative side, it is very small and easily knocked about. The really annoying thing about this scale is the shut-off timer. Just about the time you get one load measured out and poured into a case, it has shut off and you need to re-start it and re-set your tare weight. If you are just tossing "ballpark" loads with Lee dippers and want to verify each scoop is in the ballpark, this is a great scale, but if you are precision reloading, you'll have to restart and re-set the Tare weight between every load. Very, very annoying. Overall I think this scale is fine if you are loading below max rifle rounds and tossing +/- .5gr isn't going to kill you, but I can no longer recommend using this scale for pistol loads, especially those that are anywhere near max loads. The problem that has come up over the last week or so is the zero is not constant. In going back and re-weighing loads that this scale said were right at 5.1gr, we found they varied from 5.0 up to 5.6gr. This huge variation could easily put you over the max if you are throwing loads anywhere near max. Even with some minimum pistol loads, there is a chance you could exceed the max load amount if you are not careful. After much experimenting, what we found is that the zero "wanders". We found that resetting the zero (with your pan on the scale) every 10 rounds will eliminate most of the variance, but you could still find yourself throwing loads that are +/- .2 gr

Generally, you get what you pay for. In this case, I found the product to be erratic and not repeatable. I was planning on using it to weigh .22 LR bullets. One time a bullet may weigh 51.3 grains and another time it may weigh 51.5 grains. I followed all the instructions to the letter. For my purposes, it's useless. I even bought new batteries as others have suggested. No luck there, either.

While it is convenient to be able to tare with a case on the scale to verify automatic charging equipment, this scale is right on the edge of what I would consider to be adequate for the price. It calibrated fine but trying to tare (or zero) results in one of the following for me at random: 1. The scale turns off. 2. The unit of measure changes. 3. Nothing. 4. It tares/zeros It works great occasionally but having to press the button so many times sometimes to get what I want really offsets the value. It is very frustrating when it takes too long to get tared/zeroed and then after you throw your charge the thing does its little auto-off feature before you can weigh it. My beam scale is almost as fast to just weigh the powder and then pour it in the case as opposed to taring and weighing a case on this scale. Once I can afford a real scale, I'm done with this one.

This is a handy scale for doing a quick bullet or case measure when I don't want to go through the trouble of setting up my 5-0-5. However, I learned quickly not to trust it with powder. On powder I noticed that is varied often on powder weights, sometimes up to half a grain. I have dumped a load of powder into a pan, weighed it, took it off, weighed it again and gotten different readings sometimes 3-4 times with same powder charge. I also have noticed with mine that the auto shut off is rather quick and if I so much as stopped to take a drink of coffee between measures it would shut off. 'Course after reading some other's comments about battery life, maybe this isn't such a bad thing.

I bought this scale in 2008. The price does not equal the performance. I found that even after warming up for 30 minutes it still was not accurate as I would have hoped. It varies by 1/2 grain and even more if the tare is not used. If you obsessively watch your weight and check the scales consistency it will work fine. If you are on a budget and wanting accurate loads this will work but you will have a lot of time in double checking this scale... I am getting a new scale!!!

Well, I wish someone would say "I told you so." I spoke too soon with this one. I loved it as soon as I first used it and for about 7 month now before it stopped recalibrating. After two new sets of batteries and eliminating everything that could interfere (wind, wobbly table, etc.), I was unable to get a "CAL F" out of it. It just shown "CAL E" there mocking me. Good thing MidwayUSA stands behind their products. I sent it back and should receive a Product #: 175512 as a replacement. I will see how the new model works. This really scares me since I was planning on getting a new powder scale & dispenser combo now that I have confidence in my weighing. The problem is that the reviews on the big price stuff does not impress me, not to mention the related failure rates there they have as well. I guess I will keep shopping and reading reviews. Thanks Frankford Arsenal & MidwayUSA!

Well I think the jury is still out on this one, this scale won't even accurately weigh it's own check weight half the time and is consistently off by 1 to 3 tenths of a gram when using the check weight. The auto turn off feature shouldn't be a problem it comes back up in the same mode it cut off in and is already zeroed. But when you try to use the tear function it consistently weights the 20 gram check weight at 20.01 or 19.99 close but no cigar, and this is with new batteries. Just kind of frustrating when you read that some folks get perfect results Midway sent me two of these things the second one seems to work the best but it's still off a 1/10 or so. Guess I've become so accuracy conscious because of reloading that I just expected better. Funny seems to always measure the 2 grain check weight I have perfectly but the 5 grain is always off by at least a tenth. They really don't say what the accuracy is suppose to be so I really don't know if it's within specs or not. Go figure??

This product has very poor battery life, and consistently produces and ERR L reading when you take a powder pan off to charge the case (no manual so I have no idea what this error means). It then needs to be cycled back to the grains setting. For comparative weighing of bullets (for example) the readings drift up to 2 tenths of a grain on a consistent basis. This makes it nearly worthless for sorting bullets into like weighing lots. It can be done, but you are likely to be frustrated. For the money, you can do better with a beam scale (especially for weighing out charges). Battery life is so poor, you'd shortly be ahead spending more in the first place for a beam scale, or a digital that has an AC adapter.

I have gone through two of these small scales. The first just went nuts one day and started to give me random readings. It was replaced free of charge. They are very prone to static charge and must be occasionally wiped down with an anti-static drier sheet. Plus they must be reset every few minutes. Since I do LOTS of handloading , I spend way too much time playing with this scale. It will occasionally give false reading when you later double check the load. This could be dangerous if someone is not paying attention.

Midway stood behind their product and sent me a new one free of cost. However after about a year of use with the new one it began not calibrating at all. It continually would fail calibration I got mad and threw it in the garbage and I will be spending more money to get a better scale this time.

I purchased this scale on 4-1-2008 for use at the gun range and used it within the month a few times. It worked very well and I was pleased with my investment. I again used it around February of 2009 with no issues. The next use was in August but, the display would not light up. I thought, batteries. So I checked them, finding a little low but, still within usable limits. I replaced the batteries with fresh ones that tested good but, the display still would not come on. I was very disappointed, having to cancel my trip to the range. I would send it back to Midway but, it had been over 1yr since my purchase and the 1yr warranty had expired. You guessed it....Made in China! I would not recommend this scale to anyone, even though Midway has put it on sale, CHEAP! It gets "1" star only because "0" was not an option.

Do I have to give it a star? Never worked, never zeroed; the scale would 'walk' on its own a tenth at a time, and would rarely register any amount of weight added to the platform. It never read 1 correct value, or even close. I also fell for the "dirty/dead battery" story--it didn't help replacing them. Absolute garbage. Rather than waste shipping charges to replace it with another of questionable quality, I had more fun a) disassembling it to figure out what wasn't working, and then b) destroying it piece by piece. Having said that, I've seen $3 calculators with more robust internals. Further, the scale is attached on the far edge of the plastic pan to an aluminum arm with a strain gauge on it. The problem is, the gauge is coated with a dried-toothpaste type coating, and the tiny, tiny wires coming out of it could be hooked (or grounded) to anything. The gauge probably isn't even robustly attached to the arm. I bent it by hand, expecting the scale to read through the roof; it never moved. Save yourself the time, and use your money towards a real scale.

I purchased this scale 3 months ago and performance has just gone downhill since day 1. The scale will not hold a 0. I took out the pan and the 0 migrates more than a full grain in just 2 powder charges. It does however always seem to correctly weigh the 20 gram check weight. I think this scale does not handle grain weighing very well and is more suited to larger weights 10 grams and up. I do not recommend this scale for powder, or bullet weighing.

I purchased this scale while it was on sale for use as a quick and dirty check. For me this scale now gathers dust. It can be up to 2 grains off. That's quite a bit when you are reloading handgun rounds. I rarely returns to zero. You can weight the same weight five times and get five different readings. With a variation of 2 grains either way. However I will note that it tends to weigh light. Meaning it will show a 7 grain charge as something as low as 5 grains. I would not purchase this scale again.

Save your money. This scale is a piece of garbage. Initially it worked well enough. Then the batteries faded and the weights would fluctuate - even with all fans, etc turned off. Bought new batteries - which were almost $8. The batteries were Duracell’s, so they weren't cheap. Changing the batteries didn't help. The tare weight finally stayed constant. But when I used separate check weights of 20, 10 and 5 grains, the weights were off at least 1-2 grains. Was through 3.6 grains of powder and checking on a Redding balance scale. Same reading on this POS was 2.7 or 2.8 grains. My 5 grain check weight was also way off. Save your money and buy a decent scale. This scale is being closed out for a good reason - it doesn't work

I replaced the batteries and cleaned the replacements with acetone before installing to ensure NO oils were on the batteries, but that did not make any difference in performance. Energizer batteries were purchased and installed, paying particular attention to cleanliness, but the scale repeatedly fails to calibrate and indicates “CAL E” time after time, day after day. It became frustrating attempting to calibrate the scale, removing the batteries for the umpteenth time to clean with alcohol and reinstall again. Ultimately, I accomplished nothing and completely wasted the couple of hours I had set aside for reloading on that day. I'm returning this scale for credit and going back to my PACT scale with its 30-minute warm up time and the RCBS balance beam as a backup. Maybe when the bugs are worked out this will become a reasonable product, but until then, save your money.

Save your money and buy a good scale. This is a very poor scale. This one the zero shifts frequently making accurate readings impossible. In addition, the tare weight value is constantly changing making inaccurate readings. I will not use it for reloading because of possible powder overloading.

Do not buy this!!!! It appears that Midway is trying to dump them by offering half off. I received it yesterday and it would not calibrate. I bought new batteries, cleaned the clean terminals and it still would not calibrate. I wish I had read the reviews more and avoided my mistake. I am going to buy a different item and not repeat my mistake to get the same item again.

I have not been able to get a good, consistent measurement from my scale since I received it. The same tray of powder picked up and returned to the scale several times will give very different readings, as much as .5 grains, which is not good enough. I hope it is just a fluke. Mine has been tossed to the junk pile.

The scale will not maintain accurate measurements! In the time it takes to weigh ten powder charges, the measurement will drift by 2 tenths of a grain. I have no faith in the scales ability to indicate the weight of a powder charge for more than the first 3 or 4 charges. What a waste of money, you get what you pay for.

Purchased this scale to have a double check system. This scale is horrible. I went and put new batteries in it. I have calibrated it many times. WIth the 20 gram weight you will see 19.99 grams. Sometimes it will tell you 20 grams. Once you achieve that you put it on grains and tare your powder pan after weighing one thing the display will go negative by 1-3 grains. There are a lot of good reviews then there are many just like mine. I would say pass it up spend more if that is what it takes to get a decent scale.

This scale is worthless! It will weigh a given powder load at 7.2 and then weigh the same powder at 7.6 or 6.9. It is extremely inaccurate don't waste your money. Oh, and yes I did change the battery three different times and it never got any better.

I only gave this scale one star because there is not a "0" star option. Weighed the same bullet (126 grain) twenty times consecutively and got 20 different weights, varying by as much as 4 grains. Worked OK if you reset after every weight, but who wants to bother with that.

Scale works great if you replace the batteries, keep it out of any air flow and in an are where the temp is above 65 degrees. With all that, why bother. Spend the extra money and get something that isn't so darned sensitive.

I experienced the same problems as others reviewers have. The only consistency with this scale is its inconsistency. The tare wonders from .1 to .6 grains, and the same cases and bullets weigh in differently all too often. A measured charge of 65 grains of H-4831 weighed in at 40.3 three times in a row! Very unsafe to use for powder measurement and too inaccurate for sorting bullets and cases if accuracy is your game.

I bought this scale based on the ratings but it will not even calibrate so it is totally useless. Some said that you should just buy new batteries but that should never be necessary for a new product plus I would be out the price of some expensive batteries in addition to the cost of the product if they don't work.

Don't waste your money or time. I replaced batteries 2 times and made sure no air drafts near the scale. Tried to measure a charge of 6 grains (confirmed by the old fashion scales), would not read 6 at all..it ranged from 4.5 to 7.3 grains with the same powder charge. It may be somewhat good for rifle but not pistol.

Save your money. You get what you pay for. My scale is only accurate to +\-.01 GRAMS, not to grains as stated. Very temperature sensitive, anything under 70 deg. F causes problems. Readout at the fourth digit only works sometimes.

I finally took the jump to a digital scale after decades of using my reliable balance scale for reloading. WHAT A MISTAKE! This product was not only unreliable, but could lead to dangerous errors in smaller caliber reloading. It is extremely sensitive to temperature changes, and in my case would not even give repeatable measurements, even if I recalibrated it each time I turned it on. It would regularly give readings that were off by several grains. This could be extremely dangerous for small caliber reloads where powder charges are a few grains to begin with! Additionally, the user's manual claims that you should check the measurements made by the digital scale (using a balance scale) on a regular basis. If you cannot trust the scale to be right, it has no business being used for measuring something as safety critical as powder charges.

I bought one because it seemed like a good deal. I returned the first one, as it was gaining weight every weigh with my empty clean pan. A replacement was promptly sent. Now the replacement one resets itself to a different scale every weigh on its own. I tried cleaning the contacts and new batteries in each one. I am way too frustrated to try a third one & this one is on it's way back for credit.

It worked well for a few weeks. Then it started drifting. I would put something on it and it would show a weight, then it would start to creep one direction or the other. Then I would remove the object and it would no longer be zeroed. It started doing this repeatedly and became unusable. I smashed this scale into pieces and trashed it. I will not blow myself up because of a scale.

Read the reviews for this scale and decided to get one. First one was junk. Wouldn't not calibrate, continued to count up with nothing on the scale, would not turn off without removing the batteries. Thought I received the 1 out of 1000 that was a lemon, so I exchanged for another one. Same problems but worse. When trying to calibrate, scale would display "88888", as it's supposed to, but never would change. It would only read 88888. Was very disappointed. Midway was great about exchanging. Will use store credit to get something a bit nicer.

This is the piece of electronic equipment that has frustrated me most in my whole life. Fortunately, this was BORROWED from a friend. I seriously considered pounding it with a ball peen hammer and taking him the $60.00. I had to remove and replace the batteries every time the 60 second timer went out to get it to start up again. I had to zero it 4 times. The BEST part was that when I weighed a fully loaded .45 ACP round and then took the round off, the scale returned to a higher and higher number. 0.4 grains, 0.4 grains, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.7, 0.7, 1.1, 1.1. I'm only putting in 4.0 grains of powder anyway, so this really wasn't a big help. I didn't feel any air movement, but that could have been a problem, and I have no idea about the batteries.

Read the other poor reviews, same story here. Wouldn't hold zero, multiple readings for the same item, and never the same as my RCBS 505 balance. I have come to trust it, it NEVER lies to me, this one does. I will NOT buy anything more complex than case holders or ammunition boxes with the Frankford Arsenal name from now on. I expect better quality from an in-house product.

Bought scale to replace Redding beam scale as a faster method of checking powder charges thrown by measure. It's going back on Monday. Very dissappointed in the accuracy of the product. Was very inconsistent right out of the box, so I bought new batteries ($10.00) hoping to resolve the problem as others here had mentioned. Still too much error in results, and won't hold zero. Repeated testing with certified test weights shows as much as .5 grain variance on 2.5 grain weights. That's just too dangerous on handgun loads. I'd rather spend more money to get the accuracy I need.

I was excited when I purchased one of these scales a few weeks ago. After setting it up and inserting brand new batteries the scale will not hold its value. For instance, when I set a powder pan on it, it weighs 164.5 gr. every few cycles of measurements, it weighs .1 grain less. That is, to get the same reading as my desired weight, I will be adding more powder.......not a safe situation. I've cleaned the contacts, changed the batteries, recalibrated, verified level of bench, and made sure it isn't in a draft. I will not be using it to weigh powder charges, and I'd return it, but it's not worth the postage and trip to the mail store for me. Sorry, I can't give this a good review. I'm just glad I bought it on sale.

I picked up one of theses at 50% off, and boy do I feel ripped off. Get yourself a set of dice and roll them, it would be about as accurate as this scale and cheaper too. Once I got the feeling that the scale was not accurate I tried a little experiment where I weighed five different weights, each separated by about 5 grains five times each. Being a nerd I then plotted the measured weights on a computer. The results were a continuum. In other words this scale (at least the one I was sent) has an accuracy worse than +/- 5 Gr. That's enough to get you killed when it comes to loading!

I've bought two of these (first time due to money constraints, 2nd because I thought maybe I somehow broke the first one), and I just placed an order for the RCBS 750, so that should tell you what I think of this scale. It's alright for a while, then it will start to do funny things. Won't hold a zero, or the measure will wander, for instance. I've had the measurement wander up to about 10 grains while the powder and pan were on the scale. Not a good thing when you're loading .223 and already using a compressed load. I tried the alcohol on the battery trick on the 2nd one. It worked for a while. Then the zero started wandering. I would wander both ways, positive and negative, without any weight on it and without any air movement. I was holding my breath trying not to affect the scale! There is truth to the saying "Buy quality and you only pay once". If you're thinking of saving a few bucks buying this scale, save your money and buy something good (something else) the first time.

It only lasted me 3 months past the warranty and I only used it 20 times. Save your money and buy a real RCBS or Pact or even Lyman scale. Anything will be better than this. I just wish I could send it back. Good luck.

Tried two different scales, checked and cleaned batteries before installing, followed directions to zero and set tare, used scales in a room with no air movement....just watched scale slowing go from zero to 3.8 gr all by itself - no load. Just could not trust. Weighing bullets - using same 158 gr bullet, would get +/- 4gr difference. Maybe I just had two bad ones.
