Reading the previous reviews makes me think there is a quality control problem with this product. Purchased this barrel as a package with a synthetic stock. I found a definite improvement over the factory barrel. Installs easily; rigid, no movement. Cleans up easily with a few patches. Consistent 1 inch groups with hunting ammo at 50 yards. Field accuracy on ground squirrels is excellent. Would consider buying the tri-port version; barrel rise would be reduced in this light barrel.

My experience with this barrel was different than other reviewers. I experienced numerous failures to fire and poor extraction. The extractor slot was cut at a slightly different angle, so I had to relieve it. The misfires were not the barrel's direct fault, but its lack of mass exposed the other problems. After shimming the hammer to reduce side-play, reshaping the firing pin face and installing a Power Custom extra-power hammer spring, the gun is totally reliable again. The accuracy with ammo it likes was quite surprising, just under 2 inches at 100 yards.

I picked up this barrel when it was on sale because the factory barrel heated up too fast and lost accuracy. It's hard to explain, but this barrel is frustrating. The accuracy is ho-hum. After about 50 rounds down range I end up with a 1-1.5" hole in the target @ 50 yds. The frustrating part is that the first 20 or so rounds are very erratic until the barrel heats up. Also every time I take it out I have to re-zero the rifle. It gets annoying after a while. Other then that the fit and finish were good and the barrel is so light that it makes the gun feel like a toy. The weight is great for carrying it around but its almost too light because there is no weight to stabilize the rifle.

I bought this barrel to build a "light squirrel gun". I could not find an ammo it liked. It shot 3" to 6" erratic groups. I installed an adjustable pressure pad in the forearm of my Hogue stock. The results were: more pressure = higher Point of impact. I thought that the barrel must be flexing, so I checked with a bore light by applying slight pressure. Sure enuff!!! The barrel flexes just like PVC pipe. Stick with the Volquartsen!!!

Barrel shoots 3 feet low at 25 yards with the scope maxed out on elevation. Their is obvious play between the receiver and barrel. When I called to talk to someone about it, they wouldn't even consider that the barrel could be the problem. Very poor customer service. I will never buy another Butler Creek product!

I'll start with the good points: it's lightweight and looks fairly nice. Now for the not so good: It was less accurate than the factory barrel, it was all over the place when it heated up, and I had trouble with cases getting stuck in the chamber (a problem I never had with the factory barrel). Not recommended.

If you are buying this barrel for looks and accuracy, you are going to be very disappointed. First, apparently this company has never seen "Carbon fiber". This barrel has the appearance of graphite (flat grey/black)only. There is no "fiber" appearance to it. It installed easily and the fit was good but the only problem is, it is extremely inaccurate. 2" to 3" groups at 25 yards (depending on the temperature. This thing moved all over the paper as the day (and the barrel) heated up. Don't waste your money on this one. You will be disappointed. I really feel Midway should take this item out of their inventory. I was so disappointed in all aspects of the gun (after I installed this barrel) that I sold the gun.
