This stuff is truly amazing. Works as advetized as a mould release, no hassels just great castings. Another use for this great product is to spray on jacketed bullets for a "moly" coated bullet. Have yet to try it on cast bullets but see no reason it won't work on these also.

Can't say enough about this great product, or you will never get you Midway USA order done reading the review. It does leave a slight matt finish on the bullets but this is not a problem. To avoid the matt finish, after the spray dries, use a small inexpensive artist type paint brush to smooth out the mold cavity. I think this levels out the graphite particles that make the matt look if left as sprayed. Great mold protector for storage. Can be used to spray the mold allignment pins and handle, sprue cutter hinge pin. This does not form a heavy brown baked on mess like bullet lube does.

I have used this stuff for years and it works great in most circumstances. I did encounter a problem with a custom aluminum SAECO mold not venting properly after being sprayed with Drop Out (Moly Coat). The mold is vented with a coarse-machined swirl pattern rather than straight machined grooves. After cleaning the coating off the mating, "swirled" faces of the mold the problem disappeared, and perfect bullets pop out of the coated cavity with no effort at all. Great stuff!

Posting this for you folks who don't know how to clean this product from your molds. First if you have applied this product too much in your mold, it is a simple clean off... Use lacquer thinner and a brush and product will remove from mold totally. Respray product and make sure you don't clog vents in mold. That is easy to clean vent lines in your mold as well. Just use a stanley razor knife blade and run in vent lines with the sharp edge down. Now you are ready to start casting bullets. Provided you heat your mold blocks to temp., simple as that. This mold release product is the best there is on the market today, no questions asked.Another note, this product is not for coating any bullets. Jacketed or otherwise... If you want to destroy a barrel this is one of the fastest ways to it. I know this for a fact as I am a precision accuracy gunsmith and shoot everyday on my range. This mold release is for mold blocks only, take my advise and don't experiment with this product on any bullets. Already been there and guarantee you will wish you didn't use this product as a bullet lube! How this fills any the gap for future and present users of this product. MOLD BLOCKS ONLY! AGAIN this is the best there is out there for mold blocks release agent ONLY. Don't fault the product because of user errors... Hope you may have learned something from this review.

Much more convenient than using a match to deposit carbon inside a mold. This is essentially spray on carbon. It goes on like dark gray spray paint and dries quickly. Solvent based, so use it outdoors or with good ventilation, but you need to do that for lead casting anyway. Bullets drop right out of the Lee aluminum molds, both 10mm and 9mm. These molds usually release well, but the Drop Out reminded me of some of the first ads for Teflon cookie sheets, where the cookies slide right off and muffins drop right out of the muffin pan. Bullet casting can be a lot less fun if you have a mold that likes to hang onto the bullets, but it's a lot more fun when the bullets drop immediately with no fuss or tapping or coaxing. When things go well with a six cavity mold, it's possible to make a lot of bullets in a hurry. Drop Out is a bit spendy compared to a box of matches, but the results are a lot better, and the time I save is worth more to me than the cost of this product.

I tried a can of this product on a brand new Lee mold and the mold was immediately "broken in"..........WOW!!!!! I cannot give this product enough praise. I have been released from bondage. No more hassles casting bullets. Most of the time the bullets just fall from the mold when you open it. THANK YOU, FRANKFORD ARSENAL AND MIDWAY!!!!

I must say this stuff is awesome, no one casting should be with out it! I had a problem mold where one of the bullets was not falling out and after using The Drop Out is was no longer a problem, also the quality of my castings improved dramatically after applying the Drop Out spray. I spray all my molds, even the fishing weight molds. I added a muffin pan shaped like ear corn to my collection of casting supplies. I bought the pan to make ingots from melted wheel weights, the first batch of ingots I had to pry out the lead bars with a hammer and a screw driver. After applying the Drop Out spray the shiny ears of lead just fell right out of the pan. Throw away your candles, matches, wooden sticks and forget the mold smoking, Frankford Arsenal Drop Out is the answer.

This stuff is great. It not only releases the bullets from the mold well but it also took my toughest mold to fill (Lee .429 dia. 208 gr. WC) and made it a piece of cake to get good solid slugs. Even when the mold is not up to casting temp. I highly recommend this product. One word however. Use sparingly as it can build up on the parting line and cause slightly oversize bullets.

Didn't seem to affect anything in a negative way. Seems to be made out of a graphite material & I thought I could buy some graphite spray @ hardware store for same purpose, but didn't work as well.

This stuff is great! I mold a lot of bullets using only Lee Precision bullet molds, which are aluminum. Lee says blackening interior of their molds with soot from a flame, is required to form and release good bullets. However, I used Frankford Arsenal "Drop Out",instead, and I got the best bullets I've ever made, and they literally dropped out! It doesn't take a thick coating, just a couple of swipes with the spray is all you need. And to top it off, it lasts a long time. My casting sessions typically last for about 130 or so bullets, before I finally have to take a break or quit, and the coating is still there and ready for more, even if I'm not! After I first used it, it made me wish I had ordered several cans of it rather than just the one! I'm gonna order several cans next time, because I don't wanna ever be outta' this stuff and have to go back to "lamp black". To know Frankford Arsenal "Drop Out" is to love Frankford Arsenal "drop Out"!

I started casting bullets about 6 months ago..with much frustration included. It didn't seem to matter how much I smoked the mold, slugs would stick like mad...sometimes even tapping the slugs out with a stick had to be done. When I purchased a can of this stuff, even the hardest-releasing mold I have is almost a joy to work with. Most of the slugs fall out with no more than a gentle shake required. Even very hot molds release well. A fine product, well worth the price. Right now I'm saving up to buy this stuff in bulk. Thanks a lot Midway!

I agree this is a great product. I started my molding using this and tried the smoking. Both work for me. If you get a rough surface try using Q-tips to smooth it out. Also this does not spray on very evenly in cold temps like yesterdays 20 degrees F. You do need to warm it up. Cleaning is a breeze with Frankford Arsenal Bullet Mold Cleaner and a couple of Q-tips. Buy the big can, you will use it.

I agree with all the others who say this product rocks. It does! Now for my unique comments... I have no problem with "frosty" bullets. I think that frosty look is coming from the wrong casting temperature. I pour Lee slugs and they come out mirror-shiny. Secondly, this stuff works best if your mold is VERY clean before you put it on. Brake cleaner, etc... before hand. This assures a thin, even coat, and makes it easier to remove later. I think the folks who had trouble removing it had waxed their mold using "other techniques" before trying this stuff, and they gunked themselves up a bit. Thirdly, wipe off the excess from the mating faces of the two mold halves. Otherwise, you will "enlarge" your casting and create flash lines. Fourth: spray a nice HEAVY coat on the top of the mold, sprue plate, etc. This will make the lead slough off the top like water rolls off a newly-waxed fine car finish. Makes knocking the sprue a breeze. It is VERY economical to use. One can will probably last me years at the rate I'm going.

I was hesitant at first because I had zero luck with their grain scale but thought what the heck, give it a try. I did and it works awesome. Smells like spray paint but goes on black and thick w/o carrying over to ingots. Perfect size bottle to, it's not big and bulky like my wife’s hairspray bottle. Takes up little room near the bench. Also, I spray it once every 4 ingot molds and don’t have any sticking issues. I don’t have to bang the mold w/ a mallet or anything, just turn the mold upside down.

This is a great product as others have mentioned. It alleviated the necessity of smoking the mold before casting. I found that my percentage of good casts significantly increased using this product. Just a light application is needed to cast hundreds of bullets. I won't be caught without at least one full can on my loading table.

New to casting bullets. Used with Lee Ingot mold and with Lee TL358-158 SWC mold. Running several custom alloys of wheel weights and monotype with Lee Pot. I heavily sprayed the ingot mold, wow they drop out like they are pushed. Tried initially, after tuning the Lee bullet mold, on the two cavities in same single coat spray. The texture of the FA mold release was inletting the bullets, causing unsatisfactory bullet finish. Tried cleaning with acetone, etc and smoking. Best finish but short longevity. After much mold temp testing, re-alloying, pour temps, etc, found smoking just not worth it. By accident, I sprayed a bit too much FA release agent into the cavities and used a small paint brush to gently spread away the overfill. This was the key for me. The lightest coating is to be used, at least for me. The standard spray volume can delete at least .001 inch diameter from bullet, at times more was measured. Spray on COLD, CLEAN mold (60 degrees F), allow to puddle to keep excess flowing. Use a small chip brush (quality of mine is bad but works fine) to "flick" the excess away smoothing while doing so, until excess is gone. What is left is a very light grey layer that the alum. mold can be seen thru faintly. If needed, add a second coat. Of course wipe away all traces of the agent ANYWHERE else on the mold. I have cast at least 2000 bullets without firing a shot yet, trying to perfect my process and get the BHN of alloy correct, as well as make the mold go as expected. If the mold gets up to 550 degrees, it'll stick no matter what, and the hotter it gets, the worse the stick gets. Allow mold to cool below 400, they drop due to gravity as the mold opens. It's awesome when the temp is right. I have suppl. read the Lee Modern Reloading II and found Richard recommends water cooling on a wet towel for JUST THAT REASON. I had to find out the hard way. All in all, the release agent outperforms candle wax, matches, zippo lighters, lampblack dust, etc. I have tried them a

A VERY good product when used correctly. It's the best there is for a release agent. Like stated earlier, keep it IN THE CAVITY and not clogging up the venting patterns on the mating faces. People who clog up the vents will have fill-out problems and blame the product. ( I did) When I figured it out I used acetone on the mating faces and all was well. I have a 45-70 hollow-base that is NOW a favorite mould. It gave me fits before. When you need to touch up high-wear areas, clean it ALL out and re-apply a light shot. I'm getting 400 casts out of a single spraying for a 500 grain slug, maybe 300 for a 405 gr hollow base. Don't spray from too far away or the stuff will get applied in a textured manner that will show up in casts. Keep the coating THIN, almost translucent.

Just a tiny shot of this stuff coats the whole mold. One shot was enough to do a batch of 84 lead balls, and I'm certain I could have kept going. Before today, I had never cast bullets before, but my new Lee mold, and Frankford Arsenal mold release agent ensured that all but 3 of the batch of 84 were perfect (those 3 I under-filled the mold). Most of the balls just fell out of the mold without having to even tap the mold. No special techniques are required. Just squirt it on the mold, and you're good to go. Considering the tiny amount that was needed, I expect this 6 ounce can to last about a decade. This stuff would still be a good value if it cost ten times as much. I highly recommend this product.

Worked for the first casting session, but it quickly loaded up the Tumble lube grooves in my mold and left them deformed to the point that lube would not stay in the grooves as designed, upon scraping the grooves I noticed that the mold needs to be cleaned more often if the spray on graphite is used. I tried the candle trick and it works with mixed results, again wax can be deposited over time, best to follow the instructions with Lee molds, use a match or light a stick on fire and use it. The only thing this stuff is going to be used for is the ingot mold, skimmer spoon and stirring wand. It is my opinion that if you use this use very little, otherwise your bullets will look like they have been dropped several dozen times, completely deformed.

I used this on a Lee six-cavity mould, and it works, with one caveat. The key to using this stuff is to *keep the coat light*. Do not just spray a thick coat on your mould! You will get lumps of graphite instead of a smooth black coating. And yep, it's a bear to get out of the cavities if you do spray too much in. That said, if you keep it to thin coats every once in a while, the stuff works as advertised. One other nice benefit is that if you have any micro-scratches in your mould, this spray will fill those in and keep your "boolits" looking pretty good. REPEAT: YOU DON'T NEED A THICK COAT. I learned this the hard way.

To top it off, the residue is next to impossible to remove from the mould cavity once it has dried there. I am glad to see others have had good luck with the product, but the only thing I use it on now is my ingot moulds where it really isn’t necessary anyway.
