I'm not a gunsmith, just own several long and short guns and the occasional work in installations of items or taking off surface stuff, the occasional tightening of parts, this Pachmayr kit and case all I need...

I got my set today and used it to repair one of my Italian imports SAA and no problems. Good set of screwdrivers.

This is a very good kit for the average gunowner. The bits are ground flat to fit the screw that it was made for. This kit will prevent some of the torment from stripped out screws that occur from using regular screwdrivers. However, if you want a one kit to fit all of your gunsmithing screwdriver needs, this kit will not do it. There are still many screws that the bits will not fit, but for the price you cannot expect it to be the perfect screwdriver set compared to the gunsmith sets that are in the hundreds of dollars.

The bits are designed to fail before you damage a screw head just like they should. For a long time this was the cheapest set of hollow-ground bits I could find. However the latest set I bought was not hollow ground and so it looks like the hunt is on again for an affordable hollow ground bit.

Kit is nicely sized for fitting into a range bag. Screwdriver is comfortable and bits stay in the magnetic driver well. Larger bits are too thick to fit some action-stock screws. Some bits seem to have missed heat-treating - the scope screw-sized allen wrench rounded off while inside the screw, and a small slot driver shattered while driving a screw into a still-loose aluminum scope ring.

Bits fit very snug, will not damge screw heads. There is a bit for every size screw I have ever had to deal with. The bits are very soft though, which isn't so bad if you're worried about damaging the finish on screw heads but I have broken 3 of the smaller heads in the set so far. However, for the price, it's hard to find anything better. For most applications they work fine. Only removing small, torqued down screws is a problem.

Seems to be well designed, but they missed the boat when it came to execution. Bits were plenty for me for all my C&R oddball stuff & the magnetic properties of the bits were strong, but the bits were breaking on a regular basis without tourqing down on them at all! My father has a S&W kit which seems ten times the driver set.

Very poor quality. Pretty much the same set as the DAC brand found at the Mart stores. I am surprised that Pachmayer would put their name on it as they make some fine grips. For the sale price it's OK as a kit to throw in you bag for minor repairs. For a little more, the B Square is much better.

Hmm .. initial impression: I bought this set on a whim at the gun store for about $15. Now that I have read the reviews I wish I hadn't. I think this set will be relegated to the range bag other people to borrow. Comparing it to a similar offering from B-Square (Midway #429783), the Pachmayr looks and feels flimsy. (The B-Square offering has one extra bit too, though the mix of bits is just about the same.) The Pachmayr's plastic holder box doesn't hold the bits tight enough so they rattle in the box .. and if you knock the box off a crowded shooting bench .. you get the picture. It is the rattle that annoys me the most though. And I thought Pachmayr was a quality brand. Oh well. With the other reviews I have read on Midway about this Pachmayr screwdriver set, I am disinclined to even use these them on my own equipment. That said, the screwriver handle and bit- holder are straight, reasonably well finished by today's (poor) standards and it holds the bits well with a decent amount of magnetic attraction. That said, I am looking forward to using the B-Square set. When I have had a chance to use them I will post a review about the B-Square set (#429783) here on Midway. Two stars to Pachmayr because they appear better than Wheeler (one star), but not by much!

Not what I expected from Pachmayr, definitely not "Professional". Slotted blade heads twisted under mildly high torque, about 30 foot pounds of pressure. Phillips rounded off about the same torque pressure. Selection of bits does not properly fit the majority of screw heads in the fire arms I own. I have retired this set to the kitchen tool drawer and replaced it with a quality set on my gun bench.

Junk, cannot even torque down cheap Tasco rings without rounding off bits. Pachmayr sent a replacement for the first 2 bits I used. The bits are all weak even my replacements the only good thing is the driver itself the bits are useless. No better than those 99 cent neon colored screwdrivers. Made for tighten screws on a trash can that way you can throw them away after one time use if they hold up enough to use even one time. Mine did not, get the B-Square they seem to hold up.

It's worth what you pay for it...not much...crooked driver, brittle blades, insufficient selection of heads. Don't use it on a difficult slot screw..the blade will snap (bad metal or heat treating). I would rather have bought a good set for $50 than to have this cheap set. This set should be relegated to the Dollar Store. This driver set is not typical of Pachmayr accessories. They should remove their name from this junk. Midwayusa should not sell this thing.

Cheap is the word. I tried to save money on this kit...wrong. I twisted the first bit first time I used it. I've twisted/broke 4 since then. Some say the bits are designed to fail before you strip the screws out...I barely turned them. Save your money and buy quality. I'm disappointed in Pachmayr.
