Forget the boresnake. This is the only product on the market that lets you properly (and quickly) clean your lever action without even having to remove the lever and the bolt. I originally purchased this kit for my Marlin, but I liked it so much that I now use it to clean all my firearms. Even if your rifle can easily be cleaned in a conventional manner, this kit is still a must have: it is extremely portable, rugged, and can go places you regular rods, solvents and cleaning accessories can't!

When I bought my 1911, I was lucky enough to get one of these through Springfield Armory. That was about 3+ years past and I have never looked back. All other products are totally inferior. Their unique cleaning system is a step forward in gun care. All components are kept in a compact case that easily fits into my range bag. Use it on your weaponry and you'll agree. 5 stars.

A very good friend gave me this kit as a gift. WHAT A GIFT! Amazing "one size fits all" concept, the varying cuts in the batches allow for anything from a very loose patch for initial cleaning with the included solvent, to very tight for final passes, just by changing the point where you "pinch" the patch. The only negatives, (for me), was not having a 17 caliber brush, easily remidied, Otis has a 17 brush, and it also happens to be the same thread as Dewey brushes, and the Otis brushes seem just a little small for my liking. I like to use one size UP from each caliber. A product definately worth the money. Also another company with a no questions asked lifetime guarentee.

It is the best all-around cleaning kit I've used, and comes in a small belt pouch. I love being able to clean ALL my firearms from the breech, and save wear on the critical muzzle area. I teach NRA classes and at least half my students buy these.

In one word, awesome! This kit is the best for the price I have used, and I have alot of gun cleaning kits. I'm very impressed with this kit and it works better then I thought it would. Its much easier then conventional kits and solid rods.

I've been using the kit exclusively to clean everything from rimfire benchrest rifles through .45ACP pistols. I'm pretty confident that the "rods" will not harm the barrel, which I cannot say of rigid push-through rods. Throw in some cotton swabs and you've got a complete cleaning kit in a package about the size of a thermos cup. The only downside that I can think of is that the rods will probably not be able to push the bullet of a squib load from a barrel.

I cleaned my new (never been shot) Kel-Tec PLR-16 5.56 mm NATO pistol (similar to an AR-15 pistol), my Glock 10mm G20, and my Mossberg 590 pump action 12 gauge. Pros: Cleaning from the chamber to the muzzle, cleans better and protects the crown. Rod-less pull instead of push cable system protects the rifling at the end of the barrel without requiring a bore guide. Highest quality materials. Almost all of the parts are thick highly polished brass, with a real look and feel of quality. The brass brushes have no sharp points at the end and the wires were extra fine and did a great job of cleaning without being difficult to pull. With a cable, there's no chance someone will try to reverse directions on a brush and wedge it in the barrel. CD video instruction for the PC was good. Not fancy, but it explains the different cleaning process very well. Plenty of repetition (wet patch, brush, dry patch, repeat until clean), but that's a good way to learn. Printed instructions seemed equally clear and well organized, with full color pictures. Topics: Putting on a patch, Making different sized swabs, M16, Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle, Black powder. Their proprietary patches were more secure than simply poking a patch through a loop on the end of a rod, and they seemed to make better contact and do a better job of cleaning. Only needing one size of patch for every possible caliber is a huge improvement and it works a lot better than I expected. The small squeeze tube that allows patches to be wetted on the tip instead of dunking them in a big bottle and dripping bore cleaner everywhere was a big improvement, too. I was a bit ashamed to see that the guns I had shot were still a bit dirty, even though I clean them every time I shoot. I had been lax about brushing them as much as I should, and the improved patch contact with the Otis seemed to do a better job of cleaning. Each firearm took about ten minutes to clean. It'd probably take 15 if they weren't already half cleaned. It is possible to put a hole off center on a regular old Hoppes square patch and use that instead of the Otis proprietary patch in an emergency, or just to use up supplies you already have. Very small and lightweight. The entire cleaning kit is about the size of an apple, which is barely larger than a BoreSnake for one caliber only, and the Otis system does a thorough wet cleaning on almost any caliber of pistol, rifle or shotgun. I'm selling my BoreSnakes and carrying the Otis to the range, as well as using it for cleaning at home. There may be times I need a rod, but I can't imagine it. There is a bore obstruction remover in the Otis. It'd clear out mud, snow or a stuck case. It won't knock a bullet out, but I wouldn't use a cleaning rod for that job either. Cons: CD and printed instructions need a lead hazardous material warning. I was surprised to read in the instructions for my universal cleaning system that it only had half of the brass brushes that were available. For the 10mm (.40 caliber), I tried the .38 brush which was too small. The .41 brush that was recommended was not included. The .45 brush felt perfect. There are no nylon brushes included, even though they're shown on the videos. The CD and printed instructions showed other Otis cleaning tools needed to clean different firearms that were not included. No chamber brush for the AR15/M16, no powder residue scraper for semiautomatic pistol slides, no dental picks, no AP brush, etc. So it's sort of a universal kit, but only if you just want to clean the bore and part of the chamber. You still need some specialty tools for some guns, but you probably already have them if you're already cleaning that gun. The kit has a lot of small parts to lose, but the foam cutouts in the little round soft case usually make it fairly easy to see if a part is missing. The bore reflector is a nice idea for inspecting the bore, but Otis made it bright reddish orange so it'd also serve as a Chamber Safe flag. But the light that is shined up the barrel is an evil reddish orange. I'd rather have a clear bore reflector for white inspection light, and a separate chamber safe flag, which I never use. The patches and brushes are pulled with a vinyl coated stainless cable with crimped on brass ends. It works very well, but the cable twist should be the other direction. Otis doesn't get to specify that when they buy the cable. To keep the brush or patch puller screwed onto the cable, the cable is twisted clockwise as it's pulled, but this attempts to untwist the cable strands inside the vinyl sleeve. It's like a torsion spring. Twisting counterclockwise would tighten the cable strands, and they'd be very stiff in that direction, but that would unscrew the brush or patch puller. Otis claims each of their patches can be used six times. There are three holes and two sides, so that's theoretically true. In practice, a patch is used 2-4 times before it's too dirty. The Otis cleaner / lubricant / protectant is one of those universal products. It cleaned well, but I feel that universal products usually do nothing well. I'd rather have a good solvent and cleaner, and a good gun oil to lubricate and protect from rust. This small cleaning system may have the cables, brushes and patch pullers to cover everything from .17 to .50 and all shotguns, but it only has 10 universal patches, ten small patches (which might be needed for .17 but aren't otherwise needed) and half an ounce of the proprietary Otis cleaner / lubricant. It's enough to clean three guns before buying patches, and three more cleanings will need replacement cleaner. I'd have much rather had a kit with twice as much volume, and room for 100 of the large all-caliber patches, four ounces of cleaner (still in a dropper dispenser) and 2-4 ounces of a good gun oil. There are two long cables and one short pistol cable. One of the long cables is apparently only used for .17 caliber. I have no use for that, and I suspect many people won't. The clever Otis all-caliber patches are an important part of this system. They work very well when used as directed. At six cents per patch, they're ten times as expensive as the typical rectangular patches, but I wouldn't mess with it for the difference. Including all replacement costs, the Otis system probably costs about half a buck to clean one firearm. It works so well, it seems worth the small added cost. I'll buy a bunch of Otis patches, bottle my favorite solvent and oil in separate four ounce squeeze bottles, and carry the Otis tactical cleaning system as part of a slightly larger kit that includes a reasonable amount of patches, bore cleaner and oil.

This system rocks. It lets me sleep at night not worrying about messing up the crown of the barrel. Whether or not normal methods of cleaning damage your accuracy, Otis sure wants you to think so. Well, they scared me into buying this and it really is the Rolls Royce of gun cleaning (and the most clever carrying case I could have imagined). Terrific stuff, but buy more patches because you will use them up quickly and you really get about 2 uses per instead of the advertised 6.

"Clean every firearm from 22 caliber up to 50 BMG"... except 9mm. The instructions included with the kit indicate 9mm caliber require a #35 brush, which is not included in the kit. The kit is nice quality and includes a CD-ROM with instructional videos. However, it does NOT clean every firearm from 22cal to 50, so it loses a star.
