When the United States Military issued PD-48, a purchase description of properties for a single, multi-purpose product to maintain their weaponry, it became known as the "impossible specification" because of its severe requirements. The first product to meet the challenge - Break-Free CLP. Break-Free's flagship product, CLP is a unique formulation of synthetic oils and individual proprietary ingredients which synergize in combination to do three important tasks simultaneously: Effectively Clean, Lubricate and Protect metal. After years of rigorous testing, CLP actually exceeded the Military's requirements and was approved as a product to meet MIL-L-63460, a new specification. Break-Free CLP is now recognized around the world as the standard by which maximum metal performance and protection is ensured.

Notes:

  • Penetrates and spreads along metal surfaces into every pit and crevice to undercut contamination and lift residue away where it can be removed.
  • Long-lasting lubricating film dramatically reduces adhesion of sand, grit or other abrasives which cause wear and failure.
  • Corrosion inhibitors prevent the formation of rust while Break-Free's unique boundary film protects metal surfaces from moisture and other contaminants.
  • Specially formulated synthetic oils won't lose viscosity, dry out or stiffen up in extreme environments - such as cold, heat, dust, dirt, humidity and even salt air - keeping equipment in ready condition for months at a time.

I am a reenactor and use this product on my M1861 Springfield Rifle-Musket and Ar-15. It is excellent. During damp weather the rifle-musket will become orange pretty quick. Break-Free CLP reduces this to almost nothing.

Best stuff on the market! I use it on all my pump automatics, bolts and anything else with moving parts. Works great as a cleaner too!

Now that I no longer work for Uncle Sam (retired after 24 years active duty service), I can sing the praises of this stuff. The Navy buys this stuff under contract by the 55gal barrel. It is used to clean, lube and preserve (CLP) the barrels of small arms (anything that a man can carry) and guns (usually described by caliber and barrel length; ex. "5 inch -50 equals a 5 inch diameter projectile in a barrel that is 50 times the caliber, or 250inches/20ft long). Now you have to remember, once the barrel is cleaned it is exposed to the weather and sea salts that come up over the bow of a ship. Constant exposure is the norm. This stuff is amazing. The amount of time spent on maintenance was cut dramatically! We also used to steal it from Weapons Division and use it down in the engineering plant. Again, amazing stuff. Further more, to meet the Mil-Spec it had to be basically inert as a bio-hazard and as a flam/oxidation hazard. Again, meets all the criteria. I use it all my fire arms, knives, tools, etc. Allow it time to dry on the metal without being disturbed and it really is phenomenal. It is the only product I trust for use on my Randall knife and L.C.Smith Ideal grade shotgun.

This is the same lube used by the US Army for lubing and cleaning their M16 rifles. Excellent product for moving/sliding parts in gun receivers. Has the right viscosity and does not easily drip or evaporate unlike other lubes. Leaves a layer of teflon when it dries assuring lubrication work goes on even in the absence of oil. Prevents rust and at times reverses rusting of already rusted metals. I use this for lubing and protection of my Ruger Blackhawk, my reloading press and tools. Worth the money and works great!!

I use this for my blued Ruger 22 and AR-15 rifle. Works especially well for preventing rust. I noted before using this product that the safety and mag release knob of my pistol had some rust. Placed some CLP and rust was gone the following day! I also use this for lubing the bolt, carrier and receiver of my AR-15. It puts a film on the metal surface and after firing, the carbon deposits float on the oil rather than stick to the metal! Somewhat a miracle lube! I use it also to prevent rusting of my reloading press, tools and metal fixtures. When it dries, it leaves a layer of teflon so lubrication is not a problem even for hot surfaces. Highly recommendable for all moving parts!

I am not so convinced of this product's cleaning ability, but it really does an excellent job of lubrication. It's the last thing I use when cleaning my rifles. I found that you have to be conscious in applying a thin layer of the product, otherwise you can end up with messy blotches of the stuff by the time it "settles in" the following day.

I bought CLP as a "one-stop-shop" for cleaning my guns to simplify the process a bit. To that end, CLP doesn't appear to clean as well as a good solvent, nor does it seem to protect as well as a good lubricant, but such seems to be the case with any "one product does it all" kind of thing. All in all it isn't bad and it works very well if you use bore snakes rather than the traditional cleaning rod with brushes, jags and patches, and I will buy it again when I run out because for some of my guns - specifically my .22s - it keeps things simple. If you really want clean, I recommend first using a good solvent, but CLP will also get the job done.

After years of cleaning and trying most out there, I just came back to CLP and it cleans better then I can ever recall. There is a lot of stuff out there but this will clean as good as Hoppe's or M-Pro 7 and you don't have to use a different lube. It does not mean I am going to do away with my other solvent's, they are there for the really hard jobs. For the every day cleaning after the range CLP will do it very good.

Very good product. It does everything it says it does! The only problem I have is they do not fill the bottles the full way.. I got mine with about a quarter of the bottle empty. Other than that perfect!

After a few cleanings with this stuff, the firearm is noticeably cleaner after firing a couple of boxes of ammo. Rather than needing a lot of solvent, the residue wipes off very easily, and the parts seem very, very slick. When using CLP, be sure you shake the bottle well before use -- check the instructions on the bottle. I will agree that this product doesn't clean as well as a strictly solvent product-- it can leave a film of brown residue after a while of only cleaning with Break-Free--, but if I had to choose only one product, this would be it. If I was able to choose two, I would probably pick Bore Tech Eliminator for the barrel and Break-Free CLP for everything else.

This product's problem is it tries to do two things at once--clean and lubricate. It lubricates well, especially if you shake it up--the teflon in it sinks to the bottom. For cleaning, Hoppe's No. 9 is still supreme.
