This is a good bowhunting or blackpowder hunting rangefinder. I was not surprised to find optical quality and eye relief is acceptable for the price, as the product was made in Japan. The rangefinder could substitute for binoculars, even under low light conditions, if in a fix. I found it fairly easy to range large tree trunks past 200 yards using only one hand, and I have ranged distances from 4 yards(wood post) out to 720 yards(foliage) with little effort. Several reasons I am giving this product four stars out of five(considering the moderate price) are (1)the rangefinder doesn't give a range every time it's prompted(nor does scan mode always function properly), (2)I had minimal success ranging through even sparse brush and grass(Bushnell doesn't claim the product will do so), and (3)the dark internal displays are difficult to see under very low light conditions. If you hunt in an area with considerable thick brush or lots of tall grass, you may want to consider a rangefinder with the particular ability to penetrate such clutter. Even with the occasional functional difficulty in obtaining readings on the first try, I haven't had a problem obtaining ranges on quick follow-up attempts. Durability has not been an issue thus far.

Only good on deer or brush (non reflective targets) out to about 120 yards. I could not even hit a metal blind or feeder at 200 yards. Quite disappointed in the rangefinder. OK for archery and up close, but not good for distance.

I bought one of these to range targets for private range set ups. I also wanted it to use for hunting. I must say that I am not very satisfied with this product. The main issue is that it does acquire a range probably 90% of the time if it is over 100 yards. Even when ranging off of a white target it is hard to get the range finder to find the range when it is much past 200 yards. I have never been able to get it to work on a hunt. Seems that it does not take ranges on fur very well. The only thing I can get this to range off of is white paper or a reflective surface. Yesterday I was doing some long range shooting and was very frustrated to only be able to range out to 354 yards max. I was hoping to set up steel plates out to 600 yards but that was not possible. Also yesterday the cover that holds the battery in broke while I was trying to get a range. It just fell off. It seems that the plastic is cheap. Now it is taped on. Mind you this has been used very little. I don't know if I got a bum product but I will not be buying another Bushnell product again. I am now looking at one of the Leopold range finders. I would rather pay twice as much to have a product that actual works. Do yourself a favor and buy one of the more expensive range finders and only buy one once. I could have saved an extra $200 by buying a good one in the first place.
