I used this bullet on 3 seperate cape buffalo this past year in Tanzania. I use the Barnes Solids as the 2cd shot on cape buffalo and from the reactions on the 3 this year, the FN hits harder and with more authority than the round nose. This is just common sense of course, but it helps to confirm. I have used both on cape buffalo, and have used the round nose solids on 4 elephant and on hippo! If you need a solid, Barnes is the way to go.

On a recent trip to Zimbabwe, I used these bullets in Elephant and a very big stink bull (Giraffe) loaded in 458 Lott Norma brass by Superior Ammunition. Their performance was outstanding both in penetration and gun accuracy. On a quartering shot at an old and very big bull elephant, the solid penetrated more than 5 feet from the heart-lung area to the jaw, where it was recovered almost intact save for the rifling marks. On the giraffe, they did not exit either but definitely did their job as well. These bullets not only performed extremely well on game but proved to be highly accurate and fast. Using the same powder charge as for soft points of equal weight, the Banded solids were chronographed by an Oehler 35P at 2,305 fps, (48 fps faster than the soft points) more than enough to penetrate and kill very big and tough animals. (There is no real need to load them any faster) At the range, they have consistently grouped under one inch, a major feat for such bullet on a very powerful cartridge.
