Hornady has taken their Flex Tip Expanding bullet they use in their LEVERevolution and made it available in a projectile only. The patented Flex Tip bullet features an interlocking design that keeps the core of the bullet and the jacket together creating a deeper penetrating, more humane kill. Not only that, they offer controlled expansion, enhanced accuracy and the delivery of flatter trajectories.

These bullets are safe to use in all tubular magazines, as well as any other firearm. This is not loaded ammunition.

Very nice - accurate and consistent (over either N120 or IMR4198, @ about 2100fps, Marlin 1895 Guide Gun). Email Hornady for current load data. Save the brass from their factory load or cut down a new set just for these (shorter). Will definitely keep a bunch of these on hand!

During the 2008 deer season, I used Barnes 300gr TSX bullet in my 458 Socom going at 1700/fps using Reloader #7. Bullets were accurate, but over penetrated and lacked preferred expansion. For the 2009 deer season, I am switching to Hornady’s 325gr FTX bullet. By changing to H110, I increased my MuzVel to 1945/fps and gained 25 additional grains in bullet weight. Both loads give me touching groups of 3 at 100 yards. Using the dry phonebook test at 100 yards between the two bullets, Barnes stopped at 8.25" with limited expansion and a cylindrical wound channel. Hornady stopped at 6.875" with and explosive wound channel starting at about 1.75" continuing to the end. Copper jacket did separate more than I expected, however, it is my feeling that the deer will absorb all the energy and drop in its tracks verses the pass thru shots I was getting for my Barnes loads. I will post feedback at the conclusion of the 2009 deer season. UPDATE (11/24): For the 2009 Deer Season, this bullet has been field tested and approved. Results: 4 shots/4 kills. All shots between 35-55 yards. All shots passed through the heart and lung vital area. All deer ran between 25-45 yards. I saw each one go down, no tracking required. Blood trails were distinct and easy to follow nevertheless. Chest cavities turned into Jell-O. I would highly recommend this bullet for deer hunting in a 458 SOCOM. I plan to stick with it for now. Need to test on a couple deer out at the 100-125 yard range to be sure this is the ONE!

I find LEVERevolution to be everything Hornady has said it would be. The loads I have worked up drop very little from 100 to 200 yards (taking into account the 325 grn bullets). I would recommend the LEVERevolution and the Hornady dies with the bullet alignment feature.

I shoot Marlin 1895XLR 45/70 with a 24 inch barrel. Factory Hornady ammo shot great. Saved cases to reload. Shoot quarter size holes (or Less) at 100 yards. Be careful in seating bullets. Verify overall length. Shot deer from 90 to 200 lbs from 100 to 175 yds. I chrono reloads, I am 2 in high at 100 yds, and tape drop rates to side of receiver. I shoot at range out to 300 yds with accuracy.

My 13 year old son shot an elk at 300 yards using a marlin guide gun. It was amazing what this bullet did. The first shot was a tad low and it took off a front leg just where it comes out of the body. Needless to say the elk didn't go anywhere. Great bullet.

Definitely gives added range and energy to the old lever-gun calibers. It has been a long time coming for these to be released for reloaders.

I load this bullet for my 1885 Winchester over a stiff charge of H-4198. I have had no issues with bullet seating and I use Hornady brass for this gun. I use Remington brass for trapdoor pressure loads. I assure you that this bullet holds together and is accurate. The FTX will get the job done from any angle and will have an exit hole with great expansion on deer sized game.

Great bullet, shot a 350# hog head on @50 yds. One shot kill, found the slug next to the hide in off shoulder, still weighed 190 grains or 58% retention. Can't wait to try on elk out of the Marlin 1895 Cowboy.

this turns my 1895 xlr into a hawg hammer. 300 to 400 pound boars don’t stand a chance, after examination, bullets always leave big wound channels. The pigs might make 10 feet but not any farther than that. 150 clean kills and still counting. hornady has my vote.

Easy to load. Found to be definitely flatter shooting and feel comfortable to be getting another 50 yards out of the round. Haven't had the time to hunt with yet.

Shoots good with average groups. Had a challenge finding loading data and had to go to Hornady to get. Was not provided in most recent Hornady Loading Manual. Quick reply to my email request. Still working with data but groups with current loading data equal or a little better then the factory loaded rounds (1.5" 100yds). Took 195lb buck with round this year, excellent performance. Only reason for 4 star is lack of available loading information.

Very accurate bullet. My only complaints are the sharp edges on the base can make this one difficult to start straight. I had about 95% good starts, but a few wanted to cant. I haven't shot this at game as yet. Only reason for 4 stars was cost is higher than the interlocks and load alignment difficulties.

I like the LE's in my 45-70. They are consistent and accurate. I have not had the opportunity to use them while hunting. I suspect they will be as effective as the old Gould Bullet.

Killed 4 deer from 90-145 yards last year and in each case they over penetrated; lots of meat damage; great accuracy which transformed my little guide gun into a 175 yard hammer! I will use them on elk this year in CO.

With a compressed smokeless charge, these long bullets do not load correctly in the Hornady cases. Hornady cases are shorter than normal 45-70 cases, meaning the powder charge ends up closer to the case mouth. (I have read that Hornady shortened the cases to accommodate this bullet.) The bullet tip permanently distort due to the pressure needed to seat the bullet over the compressed charge. Nor will LEVERevolution bullets fully seat in a Remington case. A Remington case has a cannelure about a quarter ways down the case. (The cannelure prevents Remington bullets from sliding back into the case when they are under pressure in a tubular lever action magazine.) The LEVERevolution bullet partially seats, then stops once it contacts the cannelure - it can seat no further. Any further pressure simply distorts the bullet tip.
