What Customers Are Saying
Time tested.
Long ago, before the existence of companies like Hornady, this and the Winchester equivalent along with handloads were effectively your only choices. Time tested is an understatement. Any of the three choices were laudable. I used all three with my preference of 130 grain bullets. This ammunition is "consistent", which is far different than "accurate" which is a function of the rifle, shooter combination. That is just my personal definition , you can forget it if you want. Effectiveness of the round can be stated thusly: a perfect hit kills instantly, a lesser hit might not. If a hit animal runs off, the shooter should spend more time with his weapon.- Riflekey, 9/28/2019

Features
- BEST-IN-CLASS BCS - Verified by Doppler radar, the Heat Shield tip defies the effects of aerodynamic heating and retains its shape to maintain the highest-in-class BC over its entire trajectory.
- MATCH ACCURATE HUNTING BULLET - Streamlined secant ogive with optimum boattail design + highly concentric AMP bullet jackets + Heat Shield tip combine for radically superior aerodynamic efficiency.
- DEVASTATING CONVENTIONAL RANGE PERFORMANCE - With high velocity, 0-400 yard impact, the bullet continually expands throughout its penetration path. The thick shank of the jacket and high InterLock ring keep the core and jacket together providing 50-60% weight retention.
- BEST EXTENDED RANGE TERMINAL PERFORMANCE AVAILABLE - Upon low velocity, 400+ yard impacts, the Heat Shield tip drives backward into the bullet to initiate expansion. Exhibiting controlled expansion with a large mushroom and 85-90% retained weight, the bullet provides deep penetration and large cavities. Available as component bullets or in factory loaded Precision Hunter ammunition.
What Customers Are Saying
Very good , with a hitch.
The subject "factory ammunition" is very accurate and carries exceptionally well. Coming from this timeworn civil engineer, that is high praise indeed. BUT! For hunting,I doubt the "Precision Hunter" is worth twice the price of ammo that simply gets the job done. The practical advantages of the round are marginal at reasonable distance. Hunting requires abilities that do not include accepting hype as fact.- Riflekey, 2/28/2019

The added polymer tip creates a faster expansion rate as well as better long range ballistics. Ideal for deer-sized game.

Love this round
My go to hunting round out of my Winchester XPR. Absolutely devastating on deer. Used this season on a big cow elk. 1 shot through the lungs at 200 yards on a quartering away shot. She took a couple steps and dropped. Full pass through. Review that said too light for elk, not sure what else you could ask for.- Justin, 10/30/2021
About Barnes
Barnes Bullets was founded in 1932 by Fred Barnes in Bayfield, CO. After 42 years in business, Fred sold Barnes Bullets to passionate hunters Randy and Coni Brooks who moved the business to American Fork, Utah. Randy and Coni were hunting brown bears in Alaska during the fall of 1985 when Randy conceived the idea of an expanding copper bullet. This prototype became the X Bullet, and its lineage continues today through five generations of improvement to the TSX, Tipped TSX, and LRX bullets you see today. Barnes Bullets produces a wide variety of components for the handloader, including lead-free and traditional lead-core bullets. Barnes also makes lead-free bullets specifically for muzzleloader hunting, in both hollow point and polymer-tipped versions. MidwayUSA also offers a comprehensive line of Barnes-manufactured ammunition including the popular VOR-TX product line.

Shoots well in my rifles ...
Shoots well in my rifles (win 70 and Rem 700). Good quality control. Have fired 6-7 boxes of this over three years. Find it very consistent.Have shot two elk with these bullets side-on, one at 100 yards, the other at about 230 yards. Both went through, big exit wounds, extensive organ damage. One went through both shoulders and held together. Both elk fell over. High sectional density and good bullet construction equals good elk cartridge with low recoil.- Stan, 2/25/2010

Is it worth the extra money ?
As an Outfitter and a hunter I get to see it all too often. $500 to $5000 rifle, $200 to $2000 glass, $300 to $ 500 for the camo and boots, license, tags, lodging, calls, packs, stands and every new gadget anyone can find all in the name of that elusive trophy that will fill the freezer and sit proudly over the fireplace for years to come. Then it comes time to purchase the only thing that will actually make contact with the game and now they want to save five or ten bucks on a box of ammo. If you don't load your own ammo then NOSLER Custom is about as good as it gets. With brass prices and the high cost of components today, whenever I purchase a new rifle, or recommend one for a friend or client, I strongly recommend they get 5 boxes of Nosler Custom which will provide a lifetime of re-loadable brass and a great baseline to work up the perfect handload for future hunts. I have no problem with any man trying to save some money whenever they can but you must have a reliable gun that shoots where you know it...- Retired Navy Chief, 11/5/2014
About Nosler
In 1946, John Amos Nosler was hunting moose in British Columbia. The bullets he was using failed to penetrate deeply enough for a fast kill. This flaw inspired Nosler to develop a new bullet design, one that would not only expand at low velocities but also be robust enough for high-velocity impacts and deep penetration. Two years later, the Nosler Partition Bullet Company was formed in Oregon to sell the new Partition bullets. MidwayUSA offers a complete line of Nosler bullets, ammo, and brass including Assured Stopping Power (ASP), Ballistic Tip, Defense Handgun, Expansion Tip Lead-Free, Match Grade, Trophy Grade, Trophy Grade Long Range, Varmageddon, Accumbond, Accubond Long Range, Combined Technology Ballistic Silvertip, Custom Competition Match, Partition, Reduced Drag Factor (RDF), Solid Dangerous Game. Nosler Model 48 and Model 21 rifles are also offered in popular calibers to suit the needs of premium hunters. Shoot with confidence knowing at Nosler it’s always “Quality First”.
