5 Best Braided Fishing Lines
Braided fishing line offers advantages and disadvantages compared to monofilament. We’ll go over which line you should choose next time you’re on the water. First, what is braided fishing line? As the name suggests braided fishing line is comprised of several thin strands of a synthetic material that is woven or braided together to create a high strength line. Braided fishing line can be used with any reel but is most used on spinning reels. Lets go over some of the most important things to consider when choosing between braided and monofilament line.
Sensitivity: Braided fishing line is generally thinner than monofilament, which means it has less stretch, causing greater sensitivity. Fishing line sensitivity is how well you can feel the bite, the more sensitive line is the easier it will be to respond to a bite.
Strength: Braided line is incredibly strong for its diameter, meaning you can use a thinner line for the same breaking strength. This can be an advantage when fishing in heavy cover or around rocks and other obstacles that might damage or cut a weaker monofilament line.
Casting: Braided line is thinner and more aerodynamic than monofilament line allowing, it to be casted further. This makes it great for open water fishing where you need to reach distant targets.
Durability: since the braided line is made up of tough, synthetic fibers, it is less prone to abrasion than the monofilament line. This helps prevent line breaks and makes it more resistant to UV light, saltwater, and other environmental factors.
Visibility: braided line is highly visible in the water, allowing fish to see your line. This is one of the disadvantages braided line has against monofilament line.
Knots: Braided line is harder to tie than monofilament line, and some of the most popular knots are not ideal for braided line. It’s recommended that when using braided line you use a knot like the palomar knot.

After years of using Sufix PERFORMANCE braid, I had to find a suitable replacement after that line disappeared. Sufix Performance is more round and slightly more stiff, and is considerably more abrasion-resistant than 832. Once it disappeared I decided to try this Xplasma.
