Did you know that Colt was making double-action pistols in the 1870s? I've got a Colt Model 1877 Lightning double-action revolver made in Hartford, Connecticut. It has an exposed hammer spur with sharp checkering. The trigger is wide and smooth, and the grips are made of hard rubber. The cylinder has a loading gate. This gun has a 4 1/2-inch barrel with a fixed rear sight notch and a high-blade front. An ejector rod is used to eject the empty cases. This model was made from 1877 through 1909 with over 166,000 produced. It was well-received by law-abiding citizens and outlaws alike. Billy the Kid was known to have carried the Colt Lightning. The cylinder is easy to remove for cleaning. It holds six rounds of 38 Long Colt ammo. The gun can be fired in single-action and double-action, making it a serious piece of firepower. For a demonstration of how to remove the cylinder and operate the revolver, be sure to check out the short video above.
