A treestand is a popular and effective way to hunt whitetail deer. Let's talk about treestand safety.

Before using your treestand, be sure to read and understand all the instructions and warnings. Make sure you use all of the safety devices included with the treestand.

ALWAYS

Always select the proper tree. It should be a live, straight, limbless tree of the correct diameter for your treestand and safety harness.

Be sure and secure both the ladder and stand to the tree according to the manufacturer's directions.

Always use a safety harness system every time you get into and out of your stand and all the time you're in it and be sure to inspect both your harness and the tree stand for wear or damage each time before use. For safety's sake, always tell someone exactly where you'll be hunting and when you're coming home.

Always use a rope to pull up your gear and unloaded firearm once you're in the stand. Before getting out of your treestand, unload your gun before you lower it.
