The first rule of firearm safety is always the same: Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Always keep the action open and the ammo in your pouch, except when shooting.
Eye and ear protection is always required.
The only time to safely load your gun and close the action is when you are at the shooting station and ready to shoot.
If everything is clear, call for the bird. If there's a break in shooting, immediately open the action and unload your gun until shooting can safely resume.
When you're finished shooting a station, always open the action on your gun before walking away.
If you are using a pump or semi-auto, never load more than two shells at a time, and never use shot larger than #7-1/2.
If your gun misfires, wait at least 30 seconds before ejecting the shell, always keeping the muzzle in a safe direction.
Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting. Remember, firearm safety is your responsibility.
