How to Polish the Finish on a Rifle Stock

Larry Potterfield • February 05, 2017

Finishing the finish is the last step when finishing a gunstock. Let's take a look at this interesting process.

We'll need 600-grit wet or dry sandpaper, some pumice, and rottenstone. First, we put a little water on the finish and sand lightly with 600-grit paper.

2F pumice comes next. Take your time and rub lightly, you don't want to rub completely through the finish.

4F pumice is next, it looks good but is still a little dull. We'll use the rottenstone to give us a nice satin finish.

Applying a little paste wax will complete the last step. Remember, the job isn't done till you finish the finish.
