How to Safely Unload a Semi-Automatic Pistol

When you're ready to unload your pistol, always follow the basic firearm safety rules:

Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

Keep your finger away from the trigger.

Make sure it's on safe.

Never store a loaded firearm in a case or in a safe.

Don't bring a loaded firearm into the house.

First, always remove the source of ammunition. Press the magazine release and remove the magazine.

Now strip out all the rounds.

Taking the gun off safe, if necessary, pull the slide sharpy rearward, ejecting the round from the chamber.

Look inside and make sure the chamber is empty.

Remember: always remove the magazine before pulling back the slide. If you don't, pulling the slide back and closing the action will cause another round to chamber from the magazine. After you finish unloading, lower the hammer carefully.

Put the ammunition back into its original box and store the firearm in a secure place away from children.
