Firearm safety is your responsibility. When you've finished shooting a shotgun and are ready to unload, always follow the basic firearm safety rules. Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction,
keep your finger away from the trigger,
and make sure it's on safe.
Don't bring a loaded firearm into the house.
Never store a loaded firearm in a case or in a safe.
If the shotgun is a break open single shot or double barrel, open the action and remove the rounds from the chambers. Safely unloading pumps and semi-automatics is basically the same set of instructions. Make sure the muzzle is pointed in a safe direction,
keep your finger off the trigger,
and make sure it's on safe.
Then, slowly cycle the action until all rounds are ejected, and the magazine follower is visible.
After you're finished unloading, put the ammunition back into its original box and store the firearm in a secure place away from children.
Remember, firearm safety is your responsibility.
